Advice needed please re subtalar joint
Hi this is my first post
I am struggling to get my head around being recently diagnosed with bone on bone arthritis in the subtalar joint . This has happened so quickly from having arthritis to now bone on bone .
I experience pain, stiffness and ankle swelling when on feet for long periods .
My consultant has offered me a cortisone guided injection ( number 80 on the waiting list ) he has also spoken about an ankle fusion or ankle replacement, I don't fancy either of the last two .
Is there anyone who has subtalar arthritis who could offer any tips on how to help myself going forward .
Thanks in advance

Hi @Lotty220
I have been on this forum for a loooong time and although ankles don't come up as often as hips or knees I do remember some threads so I did you this search:
My own brother in law had his ankles (both) fused and is so very very happy with them.
Best of luck and please do keep posting your posts might help someone else in the future.

I don't know whether he'll appear but I seem to remember @prefabkid47 having his ankle operated on a few moons ago…..
Ron? If you are still posting can you advise @Lotty220 ?
Best wishes to you Lotty and thanks to you if you respond to this message

I had my talor and sub talor fused in 2018 and 2020 my avatar is the metal work in my ankle..
I feel yor pain i had bone on bone then my ankle collapsed i had a great surgeon im still a gardener so it worked..
So they open the front of ankle rough up the bone 2or 3 screws in plaster 3 month's air boot 8 week's then learn to walk again…
Get a leg pillow with a groove and a knee walker but i would think carefully about a replacement as there was 2 people with ankle replacements an they failed so a 3 inch gap in their leg's good luck with your choice...
