New bruising around THR wound site

Hi,

I had my THR August 20th, so I'm coming up for nearly 6 weeks post op.

I've developed some new bruising around my wound site, is this normal?

I had no bruising round the site initially, only back of the leg, back of knee and calf.

Everything has been going really well, to the point I don't need to use a crutch. Am I overdoing things? Do I need to take a step back?

Has anyone else experienced this?

    Hi @Laurajp

Not sure if this is normal, but I had a THR in June this year and at about 8/9 weeks I noticed redness around the wound site and was experiencing more tenderness and sharp stabs of pain which only lasted for a few seconds. I managed to get an appointment at my Dr's, and was given a short course of antibiotics which cleared everything up.

Were you given a contact number from the Hospital when you were discharged as they may be able to answer any questions you may have and to give you peace of mind.

Do let us know how you get on. Take care.🙂

    Hi,

Thanks for replying. The wound itself is really clean and healing well.

I'll take it steady and keep an eye on it. X

    Hi

    Hi

I am 22 weeks post surgery and had no bruising initially but a bit of. A blueush tinge a few weeks later. Internal bruising can take a while to show on top of the skin. These are huge muscles that have been squashed and moved around and take time to recover. This is where swelling and soreness shows before bruising.

As long as you don't have any redness that is hot to the touch and your wound is clean and dry, I think you will be fine.

Get a tub of E45, not a bottle, and rub this into your scar as it helps moisturise the area.

    Trish xx
