Hip replacement, living alone and with responsibility for pet.
I’m going in for my hip replacement in two weeks’ time and thought it might be helpful to share some of the preparation I’ve had to do, especially as I live alone in a house with stairs and own a cat, whose needs also have to be catered for. I’ve found the discussions on this forum really helpful for preparing, but…

Need Total hip replacement at 55
I developed pain in my growing about a year ago and three months ago was told by a consultant orthopaedic surgeon that I need a hip replacement. In a year I have gone from being very adventurous and active, yoga, swimming and cycling and working full time to being off sick and only able to walk short distances. The pain is…

1 week until surgery and I'm feeling stressed and anxious- advice please!
Hi! I'm 55, and due to have a replacement of my left hip in a weeks' time. After having an outburst of anger at work this week which is not like me at all, I've realised that I'm not coping with the pre-op stress. I don't feel prepared, for example the house isn't as clean as I'd like!. I'm worried about the op being…

Hip replacement in Greece
Hello from a newbie, I live in rural Greece, in the Peloponnese, with my husband and our lovely dog, Emmy. I've recently been diagnosed with osteoarthritis in both hips and knees. It was a bit of a shock I must say! Apparently, I have level 4 (whatever that means?) in my right hip and have been advised that a hip…

Newbie - making the decision for surgery
Hi I'm newly registered and this is my story I've had intermittent pain in left hip since early 2023 and eventually went for Xray in August 2024 when it was waking me up; this confirmed moderate OA in both hips but was otherwise able to continue with an active life including outdoor (hill walking etc). A second Xray in…

Hypotension (very low blood pressure) & anaemia
A warning if, like me, you have low blood pressure around 100-110 normally. Before having surgery, check with your surgeon what the treatment will be if this drops further to hypotension level after surgery. After my TRHR my BP struggled to get over 90. I was dizzy and faint and the physios couldn't get me up and moving…

Nerve pain after THR
Hi, I’m hoping someone can share some advice on what to do about nerve pain following THR. Had my second hip replacement surgery in May (right hip), which went well. I was recovering well, but in the last couple of weeks I’ve been getting progressively worse nerve pain which started in my groin, but which is now focused on…

I had thr October last year, recovery went well and within a few months I was feeling great no pain no more limping, all good until about 3 or 4 weeks ago when I started to notice I was limping and getting some pain again, at first I thought it was trapped sciatic nerve as sometimes the pain is in my calf as well as…

Has anyone on this forum seen the Bleeding Edge documentary?
Has anyone on this forum seen the Bleeding Edge? If so, what are your thoughts on the material presented? After seeing this video I put off my hip replacement surgery and at this point don't know which direction to take.

Eight weeks after RHT
Well eight weeks have flown past and today I was able to walk to Tesco and back without crutches. It's great. Been massaging my wound in circular motions with E45 which helps so much and I can feel less bumps every day. Physio helps loads too. So thankful to NHS and my God Jesus who heals through prayer and faith.

New Hip Day
My new hip is finally about to happen(!) so someone suggested it might be helpful to others for me to keep a bit of a blog going. It's good to know that despite the 4.7m on waiting lists (don't get me started...) that things are showing signs of moving again. We can only hope they start making serious in roads to helping…

Screw lid hot drinks cup is good too, which I place in a bag around my next and then I am able to get food and…

Pain in glutes, calf and foot
Hi everyone, Just looking to see if anyone else has had this issue. I'm on week 11 since my THR and trying to increase my walking. I've had issues all along with my hip flexors down through the knee into the lower leg. My osteo explained that it was due to stretching pulling and twisting during the operation plus many…

Up and downs
Well today started out quite well, good morning and even sat on the decking drawing, watching the birds and drinking a latte. Later on went inside to watch the tennis. Then the physiotherapist called from the hospital. I made the mistake of following her advice and put my legs up , even though I had no swelling. Then oh my…

Wondering about healing.
Does anyone else ever wonder how your body heals after an operation?

Physiotherapy wow
Gosh this being self disciplined with physio really does work. I can feel my body getting stronger every day, in small ways. Noticing small parts of muscles moving that didn't move a few days ago. Hip replacement recovery is what I like to call a slow burn, including what I was told, pacing, patience and perseverance. So…

Progress. Laying hip abduction no pain
Today as I did this excersize I included my prayer that Jesus would help my body. For the first time since the operation, 17 April, it did hurt after I slide my leg to the left. It's such a joy to see the healing of my body, God is so good.

Went to church.
It took me ages to get ready but it was so good to see friends and be around people again. Such a good thing for our mental health to be social and get out of our homes. It's good to be able to rest when I need to at home, sleep when my body tells me to. Still doing my physio but I'm so happy to be able to not be isolated…
