Hi I’m on week 3 of methotrexate injections. If you can ask for the injections and not the tablets. They are more easier to cope with than the tablets regarding side effects.

Hi @lexivernonn . I have had a few steroid injections over the years, in both knees, and right wrist. I was also nervous before hand. The first steroid injection I had worked well for a few months, then seemed to wear off. The second injection didn't work at all. The third injection was a monovisk injection. Sadly that didn't work either, and I ended up tearing my hamstring a few weeks later. I recently had a steroid injection in my wrist, an ultrasound guided injection. It has worked well so far. I have heard that different people react differently to steroid injections. What works for one doesn't work for another. It's trial and error. Each time I have had an injection the staff were great. Making sure I was comfortable and pain free. The only uncomfortable part for me personally was as they were injecting I could feel a lot of pressure in the knee joint. It's worth having as it might help. I hope this helps

Good morning @lexivernonn a very warm welcome from me to the online community.

I see you have JIA and are due to have some guided steroid injections under general anaesthetic on 21st of this month. Your birthday is 2 days later. I expect you are wondering whether you'll be able to enjoy your birthday celebrations? In most cases people are advised to rest the joints for a period of time do read this article below:

Maybe it would be an idea in the first instance to plan your celebrations at home with a takeaway or something like that and delay any more active nights out for a while? How frustrating though! A Saturday birthday as well.

Many many of our members take Methotrexate (MTX) so any queries about that do just ask.

Do let us know how you get on.

    Ellen.

Oh no what bad timing, but I reckon getting rid of the pain would probably be the best birthday present ever @lexivernonn

I hope it's not a 'special' birthday? At least you'll never forget the date you had your steroid jabs.

Don't frightened of taking MTX loads of us on here take it if you have any issues with it we will do our best to help.

    take care

Ive only ever had them in my right knee and was always advised to give it 2 days non wheight bearing for it to work its best. as soon as you walk the knee movement will spread the injection so its not in the exact place it needs to be.

hope it goes well for you @lexivernonn

    Hi @lexivernonn

When I was younger I had to have several steroid injections and was put to sleep for them also. You won't feel any pain if you are asleep and when you wake up it will all be over. Most doctors advise 48 hours rest for them to work, I would suggest you follow this as you don't want to go through it again if they aren't successful. That means by your birthday you should be able to be up and about, but as someone said above I would advise not overdoing it, a takeaway at home and a movie night would be ideal.

All the best and happy birthday for 23rd :)

Has anyone had any side effects or long term affects by having them?
