    @hips_dont_lie44 thanks. It is very hard I know how you feel. The pain is so much at times that it's impossible to do anything. Well done for managing your exercises I'm sure that will have a huge impact when having the surgery. Do you swim in a Hydrotherapy pool, it's so lovely in the hotter water really soothing 😊


  • I go swimming twice a week at a council leisure centre. My friend comes with me for company and incase I need a hand with my socks and shoes. It is nice and warm. We go in the sauna too, that is really nice and relaxing. I feel that I’m not as stiff after a morning at the pool. You should try it 🙂

    @hips_dont_lie44 I try and go once a week to my local Hydrotherapy pool, it is so nice being able to move a bit more in there, but I do find getting in and out then changing hard, it causes so much pain i end up feeling worse the following morning. It really helped earlier on but find it harder now.

  • Hi I am 5 weeks post hip surgery. My goal before surgery was to get as fit as I comfortably could and it paid off. My recovery is going very well. My prep involved aqua aerobics twice a week and reformer pilates classes and I made myself keep moving even though the pain was terrible. Up until 12 months before surgery I was a netball umpire and coach- your age is a plus. I am 66 years of age. Stay on top of your pain relief too. Its easier to keep active if you arent dealing with pain. Week 5 post op and my friends and family all comment on how the pain has left my face and vibrancy returned. All the best - it's a game changer.

  • Hi, thank you for the advice. I'm starting to feel more confident about it all now. So many comments on how everyone has got through it and getting back to normal life again.

    I do think I need to push myself through regardless of the pain, aqua aerobics sounds like a good idea as i use Hydrotherapy pool anyway so could ensure to do some more physical exercises whilst in there rather than just swimming and stretching.

    Well done on your recovery sounds like you're doing really well and can see light at the end of the tunnel!

    I had a hip replacement 6 weeks ago, private not NHS. I am 57 and after years of being restricted by OA and the pain I am already seeing huge improvement and no pain. Yes it is scary and yes it hurts after the surgery but now I can look forward to 2025 pain free.

    I went to the gym every day for 3 months before my op and walked daily until it hurt (about a mile!) it has enabled me to bounce back so much quicker than if I had been a couch potato.

  • Wow! That sounds like an amazing recovery. I wish I could go to the gym daily, just going to work and home daily is a huge struggle and im exhausted after (not sleeping great isnt helping)I am definitely going to try starting to do gentle stretches daily though from now on, i have some small weights i could try to include too. I know i need to, to aid my recovery. Need to push myself more. Thank you for sharing your story, it really helps ❤️

    I did exactly the same! Spent months doing strength exercises on my legs knowing that I’d need these to help me through the other side. Best thing I ever did - that and training myself to sleep on my back, lol.
