Hello to all you kind people who gave me advice before my left THR.

The op itself went well and I was hoping not to have any sedation but thankfully the anaesthetist in his wisdom thought differently and I had a low dose of “ Ketamine” Which I think is a horse tranquilliser 🐎😁 Well it worked a treat ! I could hear all the conversations going on in the theatre but felt very sleepy! . After the op I had a real fear of the numbness in my legs would last for many many hours!! I could not believe that in recovery I could already move my right thigh a little!

The surgeon was happy how things had gone as I had bone growing along the top of my femur

Which had partially collapsed!!!

I was not got out of bed that evening so waited until the next day. I was only taking paracetamol at timely intervals as I get eye bleeds so was trying to avoid the dreaded constipation due to all of the opiate. Any kind of straining could cause me an eye bleed and being on the blood thinners was not a good idea.

In the early hours the nurse kindly helped me up to use the commode. As I tried to get out of the bed my leg was SO stiff, I could hardly move it and certainly could not swing it outwards! Even lifting my bottom off the bed was almost impossible!! The nurse kindly help to swing it gently sideways!! After moving a little on the frame I must say that my leg felt strange! The skin so tight and sore and the feeling of a metal piece had been stuck into my leg! ( which it had ) this feeling has eased a little now!

The next day the physio was happy with me as I went up and down the stairs and they have sent me home the day later. I managed to sleep the first night with just paracetamol and a couple of nurofen with stomach protection!! When I was in hospital I noted that all those who had been dosed up on opiates were all physically sick and I am glad I did not have them. Everyone is different though and for some it is a necessity ! I do have a high pain threshold.

I am doing all of the exercises and taking short walks around the house but it’s really painful at times. I have also noticed that my foot is angled outwards slightly. I did always walk like a duck but this now feels more pronounced! I am trying to keep it straight whilst walking! I certainly realise that this is going to be a slow and long journey and will have to suppress my frustrations of not being able to move as freely at the moment!!

Thank you all again 💐 Will come back in a few weeks!!

keep up the good work @hipityhop and remember, recovery from any sort of surgery, let alone shiny new hips is a marathon and not a sprint race with good days and a few bad days inbetween to remind us not to do too much at once.
