Hello, I have severe OR in my ankle. My GP has mentioned ankle replacement surgery. Does anyone have any experience of this?

I understand that the degree of success depends very much on the experience of the surgeon. Does anyone have any recommendations. I'm based in the midlands.

Many thanks

  • Ive had an ankle fusion on left ankle twice sun talus an talus 2018-2020 there was a trial where you were picked at random i didn't do the trial as i was 53 at the time, they like to do a,replacements on more mature people...

I met a chap whos a,replacement failed an the gap was gilled with medical cement never met him again but he was in a lot of pain, that's not to say it won't work for you..

Not sure if im allowed to mention the surgeon's name but Matthew Welck at RNOH Stanmore is a brilliant surgeon top of his field i know it's a treak from midlands but worth it..

Not sure if the surgery is the same for a,replacement & fusion but for a talus fusion 4 inch incision rough up bone 3 screws plaster 3 months airboot 8 weeks learn to walk after that my avatar is my ankle with both fusions..

Ps if you do see MR Welck tell him that Mr Read koi tattoo on his foot healed well he has a picture of it in his office, keep us informed how you get on...

@remmingtonwildhunter you can always send @Galaxy2002 a PM with the details of your consultant if it's not allowed?

Good to see your name on here and that you are doing really well.
