    Hello @Jayr777_

Welcome to the forum, it is great to have you here with us. I understand this!

I think it is because we are not so distracted and as we are trying to rest the brain focusses in on the pain. I have shifted the times of my pain medication so that my last dose is closer to my bed time and this helps.

I also listen to music throughout the night and this has been a game changer for me. I listen to a digital station from the BBC Sounds app- it's free and there's no ads. It's called radio 3 unwind. Sometimes I use in ear head phones, sometimes not. I also have a 'sleep band' with integral earphones. It's good but it has to be charged up and it has the annoying habit of announcing when it is low battery, which wakes me up!

Do you have any mattress toppers or sleep with a pillow between your knees? These will also help!

    All the best Joanne

Hello @Jayr777_ , like @PJoanne, I've discovered Radio 3 unwind and have really found it helped to ease me into sleep. Before I had a hip replacement, I found I could manage during the day, but once I settled down to try to sleep I became more conscious of the pain and sleep frequently eluded me. With a combination of having soothing music and gentle sounds on all night on my smart speaker, I have found I can drift off more easily. I also started taking my pain medication half an hour or so before I went to bed, so it could take effect when I was ready to sleep. Then when I was awake again 4 hours later I could take some more, which seemed to help me through the early hours. After my hip replacement I did the same and also when I started to get uncomfortable found that getting up, moving around for a short while and doing some stretching exercises also helped me to settle down again.

The knee pillow also made a difference for me.

    Hope some of this helps.

    Jane

Thanks Jane I appreciate the advice, that definitely sounds like the way to go for me. Getting to the stage I will try anything to get some sleep it's getting harder to get through the day at work and then my days off I'm to exhausted and sore to do anything.
