Hi

Is anyone else having problems with their fingernails? Mine grow and then when they get near the top peel? It's like they split but only the top layer, it comes off all the way across. Not sure if it's down to arthritis or the cancer so anyone got any ideas please :)

Love
Vonski x

    Hi Sue

Have you always had problem nails or do you think it's your meds?
I only seem to have problems with the top layer.

    Hi vonski :D

    Have you tried eating jelly?

Could be some meds that you are taking........

Do you file your nails the correct way, or is there no need as the nail peels off?

What about vitamins and all that jazz? Multi vitamin and calcium perhaps........

Climate affects hair and nails. Nails do not like the winter weather, like we don't either.

Not doing too much spring cleaning are you vonski or immersing your hands in water a lot without rubber gloves ......

I am throwing you all these questions and yet my nails are not that great but they never are!!

    Be good!

    love
    Elna xx

    Hi Elna :)

I think I file my nails the right way, but not sure. Wonder if it could be vitamin deficiency but I still have to have the fortijuice. My hands do seem to be spending a lot of time in water at the minute so could be that :)

    Hope you are ok.

I think my nails may be associated with oa, but I don't know. My sister used to eat jelly to help her nails. Whether it did any good, I don't know. Sue

my nails break just as they get to a decent length.
i use a titanium based nail varnish. that seems to keep the in good condition, they dont peel. but they still break off then i tend to ripe them off.i find the titanium nail varnish the best iv come across been using long before arthr set in.
worth a try,a...,(the 1 thats calls) also do a good range in varnishes for peeling, brittle nails.

Snap, I was going to ask how peoples fingernails were as well. Mine are the complete opposite and have grown long and strong. I wondered if it was associated to arthur or the meds. Not had nails like this for years.
It's more likely because I can't do the garden decorating or as much housework as I used to do. :)

not sure if it's related, but they say hair and nails are, my hair seems to grow really fast since getting arthur. although due to meds it can fall out abit it still grows much quicker. my hands and nails always suffer with dryness in winter. i use aqueous cream on y hands (and any other dry bits of skin) which seems to really help, much better than some hand creams i've tried which seemed to actually make my hands worse. but i do have an allergy to alot of perfumes.

    Me too Vonski me too!!
    So glad you mentioned it.
My nails have always been my pride and joy!! My one vanity and now they are trashed. They split off in layers and despte very very careful filing I can't seem to solve it. This has onlt happened since this arthur malarky and I think it's the meds or the arthur I really do.
If anyone has any good ideas I would be really grateful

    Hi

Wow there is quite a few of us, just another thing thrown our way

Legs I love the idea that we should give the housework a miss. Might try that but not sure how long I'd get away with it :)

Toni I used to have long nails, some of the ambulance drivers used to want me to scratch their back  I can't believe you're vain but do you have a lot of mirrors :)

    Hope you are both ok

    Hi Vonski,
All joking apart Biotin would really help. I don't know what human brands you can get but between corny crescent and biotin I have got my employers hoof to almost double the speed of normal growth and it is thick, strong hoof at that! I know its a bit different but you can get human form of at least biotin I know....... Our nails are the same principle as their hoofs...... honest. I going back to the asylum now.........
    Take care,
    Cris x

    Hi Vonski,
Hooves are hair as are toe nails on elephants......So are tusks and rhino horns it would kinda follow that nails are also hair....... I don't know but some where I think I was told that at school. Maybe our nails aren't but I am sure they are....... Maybe someone else knows for sure? :?

For me if it does hair as well I need some as mine is really thinning.... my nails are rubbish as well but there could be many reasons eh?

I used to have long, very strong nails that grew very quickly. I think they started to break just before I had OA pain. I think it must be connected. :( Love Sue

........ and we're not allowed sharp objects or mirrors......... That made me laff but be careful if they offer you a special white coat, with the long arms......... x

    Hi Vonski,
Tusk aren't hair,I must have been blown to think that! but Ellie nails are, all horn is and biotin is really good for horn.............. I met a mate today, they've been on steroid and there nails are bad, split and peel as well. I have got some Biotin so will let you know how it goes........... I was trying to work out what the active ingredient in Corney creasent actually is........or where my coronary band would be..........

You asked me earlier if I was okay Vonski and my reply then was 'yes' but I've since changed my mind to 'No' as I'm now suffering from word blindness and confusion along with hallucinations after trying to read the nice 'sensible' post on Fingernails

I'm now going to lie down with a damp flannel on my forehead and a glass of cool white wine and hope that I'm not 'barkin' afterall

I hope we all feel better soon - must go my left hoof is itching
