i'm rarely awake after 9pm, which for a 35 yr old is sad!! no late night drinking for me!
i take my tablets about 8.30pm, the amitriptyline usually makes me feel sleepy quite quickly, so by 9pm i'm usually dozing off!

    I then get f030.gif

I go to bed at 9.00pm, otherwise i fall asleep. A nap during the day also helps. I have also stopped drinking so social life is now zero. Arthritis is a very damaging disease in so many ways.

I go to bed anytime between 9 and 10pm depending on what's on TV and how tired I am (fell asleep trying to watch the Apprentice Wednesday night so my eldest had to fill me in!). I have to get up early to get kids ready and myself before going to work. But I'm only 32! I think people who stay up late thinking "Oh it's too early yet" are barmy - you should listen to your body.

I very rarely drink but I do still go out - you shouldn't let that stop you having a social life. I don't equate getting drunk with having a good time. In fact, sometimes it can be fun to stay sober and watch other people makes idiots of themselves - you can remind them all about it the next day!

I usually go to bed about 9pm to watch tv while my meds work as I can never get comfortable on the sofa. For the last few months though I've not been sleeping very well and possibly need to increase the dosulepin so feeling more tired than usual (if thats possible!). Also find myself kipping during the day yawn.gif which is not so bad as my cocker spaniel snuggles up with me :)

I've always been a poor sleeper but since having OA I am lucky if I get two hours sleep a night. :( I take my meds,go to bed at around 10pm then the shoulder pain sets in and it's another restless night.I see my GP today for my blood resuts so am going to ask him about a mild sleeping pill. The lack of sleep is certinally taking it's toll If I could have five solid hours of sleep a night I would be better and would feel more energetic the next day. My tossing and turning is so bad that the past week I've slept in the spare room just to give my o/h a break. He has an early start for work and me fidgeting all night isn't much good to him.How do other couples cope? Breane.

I head up the 'apple n pears' for 9 pm to watch the TV as i can get more comfortable in bed while my sleeper takes effect. I'll have a game of Scrabble on my DS and usually ready to sleep about 11. Before i started on the DMARDS i could hardly get to 7 pm before needing my bed. My social life is none existant. I think my friends have had enough of visiting me because i sit yawning and moaning about aches and pains. In fact one so called friend told me out right that i had nothing in my life and that basically i'm a bore. Who needs enemies?! I'm determined to show 'em otherwise

Hi, I go to bed about 10.30 - 11 pm, but I do fall asleep for about an hour or so in the evening! I usually wake a few times in the night. Sometimes, if the pain is bad, it feels like hours. Love Sue

I'm sorry if I offend you, but they don't sound much like friends to me! More of the fair weathered variety, do you think? Friends should be there for you, whether you're on top of the world or feeling down.

I'm sorry you don't have a social life but are there any activities you could take part in locally or any groups you could join? The internet is a good starting off point for finding out what's on in your area and getting to know people.

    Nina,
Absolutely no offence taken. You are right, they're not the 'friends' you'd rely on for support and sensitivity and to be honest i'm not bothered . They say that you know who your real friends are when you encounter troubles in your life don't they? I do have a few very good friends who understand my illness and are very supportive. I keep in touch with them via e-mail and text message a couple of times a week. I get very tired which puts me off even thinking about going out, i do think it's becoming a habit and perhaps an excuse not to. Having said that i'm going to suggest a meal out with friends- i always have a fantastic time with them, so a bit of positive thinking...

    Best wishes, Heidi

That's good thinking, Heidi, and I'm glad you have some "proper" friends :-)

I try to make plans too because otherwise it just feels like life is passing me by in a haze of pain, housework, chores and work!

    Hi
I am always asleep by about 10-10.30. No matter where I am or what is on the TV nothing can stop me falling asleep!
I am an early riser though, which I enjoy as I can get more things done during the day.

    Hi

Don't sleep well so normally go early hours, never before 1am.

Heidi you sound to have the same life style as me and friends, sometimes family, just don't understand. I have a couple of good friends that I wouldn't be without but a lot have walked away over the years. You know what they say about a friend in need, they are a pain in the backside  Some of mine proved that saying true.

I never manage to stay up much past 10 o'clock usually awake for a few hours during the night then a full day at work means I can't keep my eyes open by then, I would go up earlier but sometimes feel guilty leaving hubby alone in front of TV every night....not that he minds cos then he can get control of the remote :) even my little dog goes to bed early as he is used to my routine so when I go he goes

No set time for beddy byes for me. Can be anytime from 10.30 pm and 3.30 am. Whatever time I go to bed I still wish to stay in bed longer in the morning after I wake up. I also find if I go earlier to bed, I do not sleep well.

A few years, ago,I never used to be like this - bed early-ish and then up at 4.30 am every morning. I must have been mad! :x :x

When I was fit and healthy and a working gal
I used to go to bed around midnight, get up at
6.30, go to the gym and then straight on to work.

Cant believe that was me in my before RA life

Now its bed by 10 ish, dont sleep for hours and
wake up totally exhausted, mainly thanks to the
pain on turning and some joint or other chiming up.
I've tried going much later but then its 4 or 5am when
I finally nod off, then I dont surface until 11am. Not good.

    Hi Vonski,
Perhaps it's a blessing in disguise when the shallow friends walk away. I don't have the energy or inclination to be what those so called friends want me to be. It's their loss

I generally go up to bed between 11:30 and 12. but usually wake in the night for the loo around 3 or 4 and sometimes don't go back to sleep till the radio alarm comes on at 6:30 a.m.

Even on nights I can't sleep cos of the pain and general restlessness I stay in bed because I believe my body needs to rest in order to 'heal' in preparation for the next day.

On the friends front I'm lucky because mine are brilliant - although they do have to fill in a questionnaire in order to qualify to becoming my pal, criteria as follows

    - you have to be able to peel and chop onions  , when required
    - you have to be able to wash hair, if requested
    - preferably have a car and be willing to give lifts
    - pull collars out of jumpers
    - comb back of hair
    - laugh at my jokes

all for the pleasure of my company :lol::lol:

    Hi

Perhaps us night owls should have our own party :):):) Gill you'll have to stay up late for the pole dancing :) Kath you must have been mad and super fit. Elna 4.30 you're only just going to bed at that time now

Heidi you have the right idea it is them that's missing out you can sure do without them. Took me a while to realise but I did eventually and don't miss them at all. I have good friends on here that understand when I moan :):) Legs has the right idea :)

I usually go to bed between 10.30 and 11.30. If its nearer 10.30 I'll read or watch t.v. for a bit. But I do usually have a 'siesta' in the afternoon too :)

Sometimes its not so much that I am sleepy but I just feel like I'm drained of energy :!:

    Hi there,

I'm normally fast asleep by 10.30pm - I'm in my early thirties and I only work part-time because I have two little ones so I put my tiredness down to the RA - it's certainly not down to me dancing the night away is it!!
