Have just sat here making a total mess eating my cream meringue and wondered what everyone's favourite cake is?
My all time favourite and would drive miles for it if I was desperate is a custard filled doughnut topped with chocolate.

What's yours?

I always suspected that you might be Heston Blumenthal in disguise :!:
The wonders of the internet :!: I found this recipe for Brussel Sprout cake, and it sounds quite good.
How to make a sproutcake:
Ingredients: two eggs, 125g caster sugar, 100ml vegetable oil, one teaspoon vanilla extract, 125g self raising flour, one teaspoon ground cinnamon, one teaspoon ground ginger, 125g grated carrots, 125g grated brussel sprouts, 35g chopped walnuts, 35g raisins or sultanas, 25g desiccated coconut.
For the frosting: 125g cream cheese, 250g icing sugar, one-two teaspoons vanilla extract.
Preheat the oven to 180°C/fan oven 160°C/350°F/Gas mark four.
* Grease and line a 20cm round tin or a 900g loaf tin.
* Beat the eggs, sugar, oil and vanilla until well combined.
* Add the flour, cinnamon and ginger and beat for a few more minutes.
* Fold in the grated carrot, sprouts, walnuts, raisins and coconut.
* Spoon into the prepared tin and cook for approximately 50 minutes or until a skewer comes out cleanly.
* Leave to cool, in the tin, on a wire rack.
* Now make the frosting: Beat the cream cheese until soft and then beat in the icing sugar.
* Add vanilla extract to taste.
* Spread the frosting over the top of the cake
I prefer my sprouts raw, or chopped up in a salad.
Cake wise - not walnut. I dislike walnuts with a passion, they dry my mouth. Any cake is good. DD

Every time I meet up with my daughter's father-in-law, he gives me a cake which he has made. He's 87 and not in good health, so it means a lot to me that he goes to that trouble on my behalf. He makes the best cakes I have ever tasted. Yum Yum :!:
