Morning dorcas, I wish you the very best for today, I hope you get some good news re a date so things can start moving. Is the kit and equipment list just theory, or does it stand a very good chance of becoming reality? DD

Hi everyone and thanks for coming with

Got back about 3:30pm from a 10am appointment! Most of the time spent waiting to be seen by various docs, nurses, cardio, x ray and physio... so time well spent  .

Had to lie down when I got home and slept off the riggors of the day.

My op date is 16th May which I'm pleased about as, hopefully, the aids that OT have assessed for will be in place by then.
The hand surgeon said that we're ok to do the distal ulna removal and he will aim to to do the finger joint replacement.. but... might have to revert to fusing the joint depending on the health of the bone when he opens the joint; which is aok with me as either will result in a 'no pain' joint!

Physio were very helpful and let me try out different crutches and sticks to see which would help me most. I'd been worried about the fused wrist and the wally wrist (TWR) managing to support my arther knees now and more especially when I have the knee replacements.
We settled on Gutter crutches... which will take a bit of getting used to... a bit like skiing with out the snow!.but they do spread the weight over the forearms rather than on the wrists and hands. So I'm feeling more confident about having the knee surgery now.

Sorry for waffling on ... and thanks so much for your support. My fingers continue to dictate how much typing I can do, but I do hope to be around a bit more.

    Hi Iris,
Good heavens that was a long day for you. I suppose it was worth it as you have had a lot of things sorted out for you. I hope you have managed to rest and are feeling more relaxed now things are going forward.
The gutter crutches sound the best option for you at least you had the chance to try them out. Have you got a date for the chair lift to be fitted yet?
I can well understand that you just want the operation out of the way now and to be rid of all the finger pain will be wonderful whichever way it the surgeon decides to go.
Loads of gentle hugs heading your way,

Hi Iris and everyone, I've been without a pc but am back now. Great to hear how well your appointment went Iris. Good luck with the crutches, I'm sure it'll not be easy.I'm trying to catch up with poosts but see read what you were writing about perhaps getting onto a trial or getting special circumstances funding for your meds. I'll keep everything crossed that they can come up with something for you.
    Big hugs. rita
