Belatedly, thank you so much – as always – for your kind, wise words. I am now pretty much “virus free” thank goodness and Mr Tilly was able to drive himself to work today and to walk (gingerly) around in the office. So it looks as if he is on the mend thank goodness.

I am tackling this morphine withdrawal very much on my own – basically because I have lost all trust in the medics and have finally give up on getting any help. I have been given so much conflicting advice from the docs (sometimes from the same doc) that I don’t know where to turn any more.

That said, I am pleased with how the morphine reduction is going. Since a week or so ago, when I was at probably my lowest ebb ever, I have taken things into my own hands and am making one last ditch effort to help myself. As well as reducing the morphine (and I reached another “milestone” with that a couple of days ago) I have stopped or significantly reduced a number of other meds and although things are still not good stomach wise, I do see that there are definite signs of improvement where before there have been none. So maybe there is a chink of light somewhere at the end of my dark tunnel.

Thankyou all again so much for your support.

    Tilly

It's good to hear from you again, I am so pleased you have been able to post because I know it isn't easy for you at the moment. I don't know what to say in reply however, so I'll take some time out to have a think, OK? I am thinking of you. DD

    Hey Tilly,

I'm glad to see you on here. I'm glad things are looking a bit better for you too. I'm sorry but I am a little concerned about you and I hope you don't think I am being rude with what I have to say.

Coming off any opiate at any dose is a very tricky, hard and unpleasant thing to do. I'm really not sure reducing other meds at the same time is a good idea, in fact, it isn't. If you want to come off them/reduce them then please just work on reducing one at once, rather than all at once.

I'm glad you feel you have made progress alone and I can totally understand why you don't trust your medics but not all medics are well placed for dealing with opiate withdrawal, it's as specialist as other areas of medicine like rheumatology or obstetrics and you wouldn't go to one of them expecting them to deal with the other, equally, you wouldn't expect a GP to be doing heart surgery. I think you would find things lots easier with some specialist help from somebody qualified to deal with opiate withdrawal. If you are unwilling to look into that medically then please find some support form an organisation that can provide you with specialist advice and support NA springs to mind but there are others out there. I'm sure that seems heavy handed but Mr LV is quite experienced in the field and when I told him I was worried about somebody trying to do a morphine withdrawal alone his face dropped and he said 'no, tell them no, it can be dangerous'. I guess withdrawing from other drugs at the same time makes it more so.

As I said at the top, I really hope this doesn't offend you, I'm pleased you have made progress but please don't try and do this alone or all at once, we love you too much on here and we need you not to be struggling alone.
    Love LV xx

Hello again, 'tis me. I've been thinking about you and your current situation all afternoon and it's fair enough to say that I am somewhat perturbed by it. I assume you would prefer honesty rather than lies so yes, I freely admit I'm perturbed.

I've 'known' you for a couple of years now - I think we joined within 24 hours of each other, no? You were one of the first to reply to my early posts (and possibly vice versa but being somewhat profligate with my posting I have to say that I don't remember  ) and I know that you have been let down again and again by the medical profession. I also know that you are a woman of sound intellect and knowledge (your now all-too-rare posts prove that) but my fear is that you are currently so lost in your current predicament that you may have bitten off somewhat more than you can chew. You are tackling some tough issues all in one go and, honey, that may not be the wisest step. I don't doubt your strength and determination but I am truly worried about you. 'Nuff said.

We're here - use us, we have encouragement, love for you and support in abundance but I suspect that we don't have, and cannot supply, the knowledge you need. I am thinking of you, very much. DD

Hi Tilly, Sorry I haven't been around and I'm sorry you have suffered a virus and now are tackling cold turkey to come of the morphine. As you know I did it and so know how hard it is to come down and eventually stop taking it. If you need any advice please message me. And good luck with that and glad to see you on the mend, you are a tough cookie!

Tilly, it’s lovely to hear from you again and especially to hear that the TT household is now restored to near normal, with you germ-free and Mr TT back at work, however wobbly.

I wish I could share your delight in the morphine reduction plan but, instead, I find myself very much sharing LV and DD’s concerns. LV has given you some very sound, informed advice. Please take it, Tilly.

Thank you all so much for taking the time to post. This is just a quick reply for the mo but I wanted to let you know that I really do appreciate your concerns and your honesty. That's why I felt able to share with you, some of what has been going on - because I knew I would get sound, honest advice. I will reply properly when I can but I have read and re-read everything you have said and am sitting here in tears trying to think things through.

On a lighter note Mr Tilly has been home this afernoon (using up holiday from work which he will lose if he doesn't take it this week) and we have been out for a drive in the sunshine and a cuppa. I so enjoyed the change of scenery. It never ceases to amaze me how we come to appreciate and take pleasure from the simplest things when we are able to do very little. Mr Tilly looked over at me sitting at the cafe table in the sunshine and said "you'll dine out for days on this won't you?" -and he's absolutely right.

Thank you again so much. I can't tell you how much I appreciate your input.

    Tilly

I am so pleased you have been able to get out with the lovely Mr TT, we have had quite a reasonable day here and it does help if one can get a change of scene. You are very much in my thoughts and I hope we hear from you again very soon. ((((())))) DD

Thankyou so much for continuing to post on my thread - sorry if it feels as if you are talking to a brick wall at the moment. Please know that I am reading your posts but finding it hard to reply just now.

I have been out today - which makes two days in a row - so something to celebrate. Today I have had my hair cut and it's nice being able to see out from under my fringe for a change.

Thanks so much. I really do appreciate it.

We know we aren't talking to a brick wall and we'll continue to post until you tell us you don't need us (and even then we may ignore you). Replies aren't necessary, this is just the only way we can send our love and support, we understand you might not want to post back.

Snap, I too had a haircut today, it's a little thing but doesn't it make you feel more human?! I also painted my nails and ate some cake. It's the small things in life !

    Take care Tilly,
    Love LV xx

Glad you got to go out, the fresh air must have done you good. Keep beating the cold turkey there is a light at the end of the tunnel and it feels good. Hope your beating the virus too, you should promise yourself a nice treat for when you feel better!!

    Big hugs.

Thanks so much for your continuing support.

Today has been a better day and I feel that it's likely that the more recent continuous vile nausea has been due the Oramorph reduction. I have stopped where I am dose wise for the moment and have been at current dose for a few days now and the nausea has improved quite a bit. That does give me hope that it will pass in due course.

    Thanks again so much.

I'm sorry I missed this earlier, Tilly. It's good to hear from you and good, too, that the nausea has improved by staying on the same dose for a while.
