Methotrexate and Hydroxychloroquine

Hi. For many years my Rheumatoid Arthritis was controlled by taking Methotrexate and Myocrisin (Gold) injections.

2 years ago Sanofi stopped making the Myocrisin so have just been on the Methotrexate and my Arthritis has grown steadily worse to the point where it is now chronic.

I have been offered Hydroxychloroquine as well as the Methotrexate as a replacement.

Has anybody had experience taking this combination of drugs? Any problems? or side effects ?and is it effective.

I really need some help please .

    Plenty of us @Pbailey592004

    There's myself and @stickywicket for a start.

All has been ok pretty well for me for a fair few years. I think it has to be worth a try surely so sorry your old and effective medication was withdrawn though.

Just need to get your eyes tested regularly and initially the hydroxy did upset my stomach a bit.

    Take care and good luck

Thanks for you post to the Helpline. If you are particularly looking for other's experiences with treatments, you may find that the Living with arthritis forum will be a good place to post.

Adding Hydroxychloroquine to Methotrexate is relatively common, but a rheumatology nurse specialist will be best placed to talk about that.

Crikey! I didn't know gold injections were still prescribed. I was on them in the 70's but not for long as they were damaging my kidneys. I've been taking methotrexate and hydroxychloroquine since about 2,000. They work well for me and I hope they do for you too.
