Partial or full wrist fusion?
Hi there,
Thank you for letting me join the community.
I've been struggling for many years with a painful wrist and earlier this year digonosed with a SLAC right wrist. I've opted to go down the surgery route and initially was recommended a good candidate for PCR but after an MRI scan the consultant says as the OA quite extensive a partcial or full fusion would be the better option.
It would be interesting to hear the experiences of others who have had either or both of these procedures as I've been given the option of having a partial fusion initially then potentially a full fusion later or go for the full now.
Many thanks,
Caz

Good morning cazzy i had my r wrist fused in 1998 an left in 05 not sure what a partial fusion involves but my 2nd fusion was new school surgeon 3 weeks in plaster they take the bone of you ilac crest(hip) for bone graft about 28-30 staples...
You have to run your thumb down each finger to get the fingers moving the painfull bit will be your hip where they took your graft and running your thumb down the last 2 fingers if you don't you will have a claw hand...
I was a gardener wheni had my opps thank's to a cab driver taking me off my push bike and putting me through his windscreen im still a gardener not sure how much movement you have i didn't have much movement but the pain was gone worst thing for me wasbottom wiping an gates this is what your hand will be like an good luck with what fusion you have Peter...

@remmingtonwildhunter thank you and thank you for sharing your experience. I've very little flexion / extension movement so even if the fusion (whether parcial or full) doesn't improve that I'm hoping at least to be pain free.
