Every time I come on here there's always 3 hidden people on line!?, very odd??, are they cyber ghosts do you think???? :shock:

    Talk about Big Brother.
    It all sounds rather creepy to me and honestly don't think I will continue to take part if that is the case.

    What are they hoping to gain from it anyway?
    Or is it just a case of a smacked wrist if you use upper case. I am 66 years old and left school a long time ago.
    Being treated like this, (if it is so), I find rather insulting.

    I don't think there's anything Big Brothery about this site being moderated, they just keep an eye on the posts to make sure nothing offensive is being posted - e.g. swear words. They also step in sometimes if people have differing opinions and things get heated.

    Most websites with chat forums have moderators and they're there to protect the users more than anything else. I quite like Jean123 and co on this site, they join in every now and again too.

    Its not big brother at all have you ever been on an unmoderated site? I ain't but some kids I know have and well...... More swearing and revolting stuff than I should wish to see so for me good on the mods actually. Its not cus of what you will do but have a look at a site with n boundaries....... I think they do a really good job and if you see just what an unmoderated site is like you might think again. Cris x

    Do you know, I'm actually quite proud to be in the same league as Rehab :-) I always was a wild child at heart, it's all to do with my strict upbringing, I'm sure.

    Private messages? I've never been sent a PM by the mods?! That's favouritism, I'm sure!

    You know I wouldn't worry too much - I dont think they have time to mod EVERYTHING (they def don't look at yor PMs) but can be really really very important if, for example, one of us is really down - even suicidal.

    I don't care if people are visible or invisible either - I dont feel threatend at all. Up to them. We are all different.

    Hi Steph,

    Please do not leave because the site is moderated. Most sites are and thank goodness. I have been on here for three years and believe me, there have been some very dodgy moments, when thank goodness the mods have stepped in. This is an open forum and anyone can join. The mods look out for bullying, and loads more besides. They are a great gang, all suffering with arthritis and doing this moderating, voluntarily.

    If people on the forum feel upset or intimidated by any postings they can notify the mods too by private message. It does work both ways.

    Put it this way, I more than likely would not have stayed on this site if it was not moderated.

    I look at an American (supposedly) arthritis forum occasionally. It is unmoderated and I hope Steph never finds it. In fact, I hope no one ever finds it!

    It has one redeeming feature - very often they are the first to find news items and reports relating to arthritis which are very useful and interesting.

    The rest I read for the entertainment value - but the language used is something else again!.

    Don't worry, I think you have given a fair and inoffensive reason as to why the site is moderated.

    Just to get back to mells original post. It might be me, this issues was raised once before. I prefer to be hidden. Sometimes if you are feeling too exhaused or down, you can have a look in, enjoy the banter on chit chat without feeling obliged to post.
    It isn't intended to offend but is more of a way of protecting others who see you on line and worry why you are not posting. Hope that makes sense.

    Hi all,

    Thought it might be a good time to come out of the shadows. I think that you can see me when I am on, though you might not be able to see the mods.

    The site is moderated only so that everyone is safe. We check to make sure that you are not being sold expensive but useless arthritis cures..and sellers do try their luck at posting ads, we check to make sure that no one posts those horrible links that turn out to be the "in" for viruses or spam, and we check to make sure that there is no hardcore swearing. Most importantly we check to make sure that no one is getting bullied (which has happened on here some time ago, but the person responsible is now barred from the forums).

    Most importantly, if anyone is in crisis, we make sure that they are pm'd and signposted towards help, to let them know that we do care, and they are not alone. We are so proud of the support that our members give so freely to anyone who is in trouble, 'cos you are the ones who make a real difference.

    We care about all our members, and feel that we get to know the regular posters and, well, we love them all - even the naughtier ones!!lol We are all volunteers living with arthritis, and we do this because we believe the forum is a really good thing.

    I am typing this in my nightie and a comfie cardi as I am a bit sore today, and I hope this has helped to dispel the notion that we are some kind of eavesddroppers (or whatever the spelling is). I know we don't post often, but it is your forum, and we don't want to interfere.
