Where do they all go?

I just looked at the statistics for this site, there were 13 members online (over all the forums) at 1045 hrs on a Friday morning, the most online ever was 36. Where does everyone go to? Its hard to believe that so few use this service, over the whole 65 million or so people in the UK (including illegals! who I presume have their share of illness) only 13 have arther and were online? If you take the number who are logged in but not actually on the pages then the number who are active is very small.

So what else and where else do arthers go? I tend to sit here and use the puter when I want a rest and a cuppa. What do we really do with our time?

    Its a difficult one this......

I assume that most members pop in for an answer to a specific problem and dont intend to stay long. Some are still working full time, families etc so dont have the time. Some have other interests /things to do, places to go and friends to meet and some are too ill. There is also a few other arthritis sites and social networking places to visit.

As long as there is a few peeps to chat to I dont mind.

It does make you wonder, with so many millions suffering from one or other form of arthritis. If I am here late, there is usually trish and myself, nattering away, often I am in the cafe on my own, cleaning and doing little chores.

Very early this morning it was only me. I was lonely.

We're all doing different things I suppose. Some work, some don't, some are raising children, some aren't, some like the forums, many don't (you can tell by how little they post but I expect they expect instant responses when they do deign to look in)(I am tired, forgive the grumpiness) we're all different. What do you do all day, airwave? Sometimes you're around, sometimes not. I work at home, which is handy. I tend to fire up the old box, have a shufti, go off and do stuff, come back for another shufti, etc, etc, etc.

It does get busy at about 6pm, it can take a while to post then. It's a huge conversation this, involving many people spread around the country, all doing different things. This thread should be on chit-chat tho, I think, that would seem to be a better place for it.

Hope your day is going better than mine! DD

    Hi Airwave,
So what else and where else do arthers go? I tend to sit here and use the puter when I want a rest and a cuppa.
Me too! Am just sat in the garden, with a coffee, psyching myself up to write my reports ...

I only stumbled across this forum when I was researching hip resurfaces and THR ... started reading the posts and got hooked. When I'm working I am often too tired to post too much .. now I'm home and "recovering" I'm dipping in more. A lot of people with arther probably don't even know this forum exists.

People who post come and go ... for all the many reasons life can throw at them ...

    Enjoy your cuppa!!

I have had OA since mid twenties. It affects my hips and knees. I had a THR on the left aged 30 and now have a resurface-replacement on the right - done May 2010.

I am an early pensioner, the government refers to us as 'not working' rather than unemployed.

Filling time is not the problem! Trying not to overdo things is!

I feel a need to use the forum when arther is more insistent, as we have the ups and downs of life then sometimes I drift away from here for a day or two.

I like the forums 'cos I don't feel so alone. Arthritis can be isolating and it was a wonderful thing to find this site. I'm here a great deal because my arthritis is very troubling at the mo, has been for months. It does take my mind off it. DD

    Hi

I go along with what the others have said ... I am off work at the moment, so have a lot more time to spend on here .. I intend to start contributing to the chit-chat forum - some of the topics on there have had me (almost) falling off my perching stool as I have been laughing so much... thanks everyone ..

This forum has been wonderful for me. Talking with specialists is great, but can be intimidating and nothing beats personal experiences.

It was recommended to me by a friend, but I think there's a lot of people out there who would benefit greatly from it but don't know it exists.

Yes Wibberly - that's a good point about people not knowing it exists.. I only heard about the site from a rheumatologist I bumped into socially, about 6 months after I was diagnosed with RA - and it had been a very lonely and scary first 6 months too!

This is the only forum I bother with ... I am not into Facebook or Twitter - ...

    Hi Airwave,

I don't know where they go but I do hope they know to come back at anytime.

I also use the forum a hell of a lot...I know sometimes my vision is so blurred I don't see the words though:oops: I don't sleep so good and I don't function so well and get tired so quickly so use a bit of a sit down to recover before trying again.....

Its nice to see new people as well but I often wonder about them that used to be here a lot.

Hey tis always good to see your 8) Cris x

    Hi again,

I think people sometimes disappear from the forum when they are are having a good spell - however long or short their respite might be. When S was first diagnosed with epilepsy I joined a couple of forums to learn more and for support - now his epilepsy is more controlled I only call in occasionally just to say hi to old cyber friends.

    Hi
Got to admit I browse a bit and answer ones that I know about.....things like RA and medication for it I know nothing about so tend not to answer....I ask a lot of questions but answer as many as I think I'm qualified to {if you know what I mean} I'm newly retired {just before my 1st THR}.....but I own 3 groups on another site {Yuku} and I am manager and admin of another 4. I have the little pink cards that advertise A.C., their website and their telephone number {helpline}I find on a Saturday when I'm in our metro center loads of people talk to me because I'm on my scooter...other people on scooteres, people with sticks etc so I hand out these little cards and tell them where their local meetings are.

One shouldn't disappear when things are good - that is lovely for the person concerned but others still need re-assurance and help. I have no idea if I give either, but after thirteen years of this truly appalling business, twelve and three-quarters of which have been effectively a solo effort (how the hell does one type 12 and 3/4? is that it?) this is an absolute joy and revelation. I am not on my own, I have 'met' many wonderful people and I have found a club that I am entitled to join.

I tend to be rather suspicious of organised clubs: golf clubs, (too snooty), rotary clubs (what exactly is the agenda there), WI (there is more to life than jam), Mother's Union (why, why, why?), yachting clubs (golf clubs on water) and so on. I can manage AC. I understand what unites us and why we are here. We are all different, we have different experiences and troubles, but we all share the one thing: coping with the ghastly and truly horrible antics and effects of this foul disease and its various guises.

Please note I have been awake for 20 hours and grammar/reasoning/pills/pain/white wine are taking their toll.

In answer to my earlier question it would be 12.75 (in the decimal system). Now, I await livinglegend who will correct me on the decimal thing. Maths has never been my strength. DD

Hi Airwave not seen you posting very often. May i say it is very nice to have you here :D Were do we go well i don't use computors much as i was told not to by my optician. I went to collage as someone suggested a blind collage and using jaws computer. I went there and as in 17 years they have improved screens so head aches sickness dizziness etc sensations i had vanished. The teachers said my optician did not know what he was talking about. They put me on ordinary computer with back ground. I needed new glasses after one year it had damaged the eyes and i need magnifiers for close reading of smaller text. I did not need em before. I cannot afford reading glasses my others cost £300 so £600 for two pairs for get it. My optician was gutted. I go on rarly and not for long now. I had logged in the site while at collage and became addicted i love it but cannot go on more.

rest of time school runs family friends book club, creative writing

gym swimming or in bed fatigued in pain the odd housework stuff
anyway nice to read what you do. It is a shame others dont join chats. I oftern wonder what they are thinking about do they like our forum. Is big brother watching or dla people spying do i sound too active and they are planning more cuts. anyway thanks for this post from joanne

No, I wasn't thinking about that - I thought perhaps your eye muscles were not that well co-ordinated, which would mean that both eyes were not looking at the same point at the same time. I sincerely hope that I have not upset you - I am used to working with people who have eye tests that confirm they can see, but that do not take into account - or test - the fact that eye muscle development may be delayed. DD

Arther is less easy to get used to. he really turns life upside down any way eyes getting tired. Good way to get me ready for sleep that or reading i have to take breaks for that also. if i read i fall sound asleep. You can give arther a good telling off though he is a menace :D
