Hi Iris
that sounds like a PerLAN!!
A damn good one too.
How clever you are at being able to shut the door on things YOU yourself can't sort out!
You is an amazing bird

Good luck tomorrow Iris with both appointments.
You will probably have to rest your knees for 24 hrs after so could be a snuggle on setee duvet day and bad tv .
Here have these chocs.
Will be thinking of you

Oh God. Draining and steroids. I feel sick, And it's not even happening to me - I kid you not, I can feel the ache! Oh dorcas, the very best with that, I hope they give you local anaesthetic and I hope they give THAT time to take effect. And as julie said, a good 24-48 hours on the sofa after, to give it time to settle in to the joints and therefore be as effective as it can. As for the rest of it, you have your 'cool, calm, collected' head back on - you will be fine. I will be thinking of you tomorrow - might even have an early gin to help the nerves! Take care. DDHave you got the despatches? No, I always walk like this. Eddie Braben0

Hi Iris
I missed pocket duty and have been told off for that.........
Now then what a situation to be put in, and my legs are swaying, head spinning at the thought of aspirating knees,,,,Yeuch!! Im a total needle phobic and a big chicken to put in lamens terms!!! They must be able to come up with some sort of plan to help you post TKR, I mean in this day and age they have solutions, gadgets for all sorts......The answer is out there somewhere, just hiding its cheeky face...
Now then, how great are you are compartmentalising things, whatta girl!!!
I send sincere warm ugs and big cup of tea to ya.....If lived near would offer chaffeur you after op when needed.......
Sol sends big croaks of encouragement to you too...

Hi Hleena, Elna, Sharmane, Tilly, Bertyboy (how you doing?) Toni. Julie, DD, and Elaine.
Thanks a whole bunch for your good wishes for tomorrow and for what might happen in the future with the ops.
and for thinking my plan is a good one!
I've always been able to put things aside that I have no power to deal with... comes in very handy sometimes.... and keeps me sane.
I'm definitiely going to have the 48hr duvet days after I get home.. the bad tv.. and PF's chocs..... now that is a plan.
DD... I think it's supposed to be me that has the G&T. but I'll let you have it by proxy if you have the aspirations and jabs too.
Elaine.. you are a sweetie offering to chauffuer me... if you leave now you might just get here on time. I'll definitely have the tea though!
tell sol thank you for the croaks too... much appreciated!
I'm off line tonight so a BIG THANKYOU to all for just being so great!
I'll let you know later tomorrow how the knee jabbing went.

Glad you can put things aside that you have no control over.
Thats what I should be doing about this stupid telephone call I'm waiting for.
Grant me the serenity to accept the things I cannot change
The courage to change the things I can
And the wisdom to know the difference
I should remember that for myself. Thanks for jogging my memory
Love

hi Iris, just caught up with your thread. Sounds very daunting, I know, but just try and tackle each and every thing at one time so you don't get overwhelmed. Perhaps see if you can talk to a physio too to see if they have any suggestions to help with the planning of it all. I wish could offer more but you will get through this, they will think of some way you can manage to get it all done.
thinking of you hun, and sending you lots of hugs.

Hi Iris...Phoned the Orthos secretary this morning and there was still nothing through.,.....she said I havent forgotten about you and I'll e.mail them again and say I want them asap.....had a call from OT who are going to deliver all the equipement for hip operation tomorrow. Dont want it cluttering the house up if I'm not going to have the hip op yet

I am very good at compartmentalising so now I've got my head round it and have a plan, I can carry on without the worry.... until someone tells me I need to!
thank you all. 'normal' Dorcas service has been resumed.
HI iris, you are one strong lady!
I do know what you mean about feeling better once you have a plan, however I'm still honing the skill of compartmentalising when at home (I can do it fine at work.)
When you next log on you will be having your duvet time and recovering from the knee draining etc Hope the soreness passes quickly and the benefits are noticeable.
SpeedyI have had OA since mid twenties. It affects my hips and knees. I had a THR on the left aged 30 and now have a resurface-replacement on the right - done May 2010.0 -
Hello Iris
Hope all goes well tomorrow.. I'm sure it will..
Compartmentalising! - what a great skill to have - much better than ruminating endlessly about things you have no control over (which is my 'great skill').
Looking forward to hearing from you when you are able ..
Love from Marion x0 -
Hi Iris
Just wishing you good luck......and rest and then get back to us when you can

Hi Iris
Just catching up on your thread what difference a couple of days make on this forum.
So sorry to hear about your appointment and what they said. Will be thinking of you tomorrow and hope it helps with the pain and inflammation.
I hope all the drs put a great plan together for your treatment and also that the ESA people realise that you don't need then adding to your portion at the moment either. I really hope they see sense real soon.
Take care - thinking of you

oooh! bags the fudge pocket
mind you, will there be room for all the kitkat chunky bars that I've brought :?: .... there we are ....... jiggle about a bit ... right we're in and off to the hossie.
littlelegs sends her apologies but she has taken herself off to Cris to bark at the lodgers and the sister, so you're left with me I'm afraid!
hope that today is less of an ordeal than you anticipate, and that it does you a ton of good.
love and hugs

Hi Iris
Still in your pocket feel a bit sick eaten all them peppermint creams and the frys choc cream i took.
Hope you are ok and that your knees are not too sore.
In a day or so you might be up and dancing the highland fling (have i got that right)
Anyway rest for the moment , have the hospital told you to keep off your legs. I once had my knees done while i was in hosp drained and injected and they wouldn't let me stand up for 24 hrs.
thinking of you.
Love JuliePF x0 -
HI Iris,
still hiding in here ....... not much fudge left
hope that you are ok and that things are progressing well and painlessly (is that even a word :? :? must be too much fudge  )
loads of hugs
WOnky0 -
That's me back home Thank you peeps for your kind wishes and support. glad there were just enough peppermints and fudge to last the pocket dwellers..
Can't describe what a woos I was  ...nearly needed to reach for the smelling salts. the knee joints being aspirated is not a pleasant experience.
Went in this morning and had both knees done by 11am..was kept in bed! until 4pm and then my lovely son in law came to collect me. ward insisted a porter take me out in a wheelchair.
Knees both look like balloons and feel extremely tight... could hardly walk into the house from the car.
but anyway.... it's over
have to spend 24hrs as immobile as pos (duvet day...book, PF's chocolates..that's easy!) but rest the knees for at least 48hrs.
Part 1 of the Plan achieved.
Spoke to the rheummy registrar about an OT and Physio referral. He said that 'they' will refer me, yes ....but not until he speaks with my rheummy consultant next week and 'he' has seen the Ortho knee report.?
Part 2 of the Plan..partly achieved?
.... getting there though..
Thanks again everyone!

Aw, dear Iris, so pleased for you the ordeal is over, well, the aspirating one. Mmmm I had experience of that but it did not last for very long so it was tolerable, just about. If I remember correctly I was told I was a good girl  Only one knee was involved and it was only to get out a little fluid so the rheumy could have a look at it
You rest up my lovely now and I hope the knees ease for you. Spoil yourself, you well and truly deserve it. Hope there is someone with you to spoil you too.
Lots of love and gentle hugs

hope you rest up well and that the knees soon behave as well as wally does
