'Smile Big' Day

Now for something completely different! I suggest that on Monday next we all agree not to be negative, to Smile Big 8) , not to be a patient, not to speak about feeling ill, do something enjoyable for ourselves and above all not to talk about arther?

I would like to feel free of arther, as we all would, well this is one way to free ourselves for a day, a spot of mental juggling, a 'V' sign in the sky to arther.

Can we do it? In the words of that immortal character, Bob the Builder, "Yes, we can!" If you feel its all in a good cause and agree, report in on Tuesday what you've been doing.

8)Its a grin, honest!

p.s. sorry about the modern grammar.

I think that's a great idea but I would like to add a disclaimer for emergencies. We can't control when we get struck down.

I will however, do my best not to whinge on Monday. Anyway, Monday is Meg's birthday so it should be a happy day. :D

What a ray of sunshine you are! Full of positivity and spreading the good will. A positive mind is a healthy one according to pyschologists.

I'll have a word with arthur. Maybe I'll make that hair appointment I've been putting off?? I've booked in for a pedicure on Tuesday (arthur of the knee means I can't do them very well). What other treats can I give myself?? I think I'll give my OH compliments all day today - he's been working hard and needs cheering up. He does look gorgeous today and he loves a bit of flattery - and on the plus side of all that he may do the garden - either way I'll be a happy bunny.

Have a good day Airwave - I like your style!:lol:

I am with you on that. :D:D Every day I can find something positive and smiley about my life, well so far. It helps me greatly, I know of people living very close to me who are much worse off than me, healthwise. It is a constant wakeup call for me. To see how they have adapted their lives and are always cheerful and thinking of others, although they have immense problems themselves, leaves me feeling constantly humbled.

I'm sorry Airwave, I don't think it is a good idea. In my day to day life I am always doing that anyway - putting on a good front for everyone else, trying to put a positive spin on things, not telling people how I feel or how things are. Here is where I don't have to and if peeps aren't around for others having a tough day or needing a sympathetic ear or posters feel they can't let off steam that day, what are we here for?

If you want to stay off the site for a day that is your decision but please don't ask others to do the same.

I don't think he is. I think the idea might be just to give ourselves a reminder that arthritis is not our defining feature. It isn't, not by a long chalk. I know exactly what I will do on Monday, and I may even do it again on the Tuesday in honour of our creaking day! DD

    Hi Salamander

There is a disclaimer for "emergencies" and there will always be peeps on here to help others out. I do not think for one minute that no one will be posting on Monday and telling how they are feeling, one way of the other. Sometimes people get bogged down with their problems and life and it seems quite a good idea, to me, for one day to try to think positive within oneself but if it is impossible, so be it.

Those that are going to try this "experiment" on Monday will be here to help others out, I shall be, for sure. popping in as I do many times a day.

    Luv

Hey DD, you've got it. Even my half glass full mind gets trampled on by arther and as others have said, I do not wish to be defined by a chronic illness. This is a lighthearted attempt at a fun day!

Life is about being ourselves without having to think about arther every second of the day. I would not wish to restrict others use of the forum, they could join in, on so many levels?

I am going to take myself out for lunch, in Spoons, then a shopping expedition and maybe even a cream cake and a cuppa in the cafe before hometime. It can take so little to raise the spirits, I am a great believer in 'me time'.

I do not have to leave our home or garden to raise my spirits. I am truly easily pleased.

Once you start putting challenges to people on here you are in danger of putting the same constrictions on them that they may have in their everyday life i.e., to continue putting a brave face on things, underplaying how difficult things are, not talking about their feelings.

I find it patronising to be told to not to be negative, to smile, to be patient, not to talk about our illness and I'm surprised that more of you don't.

    Hi
Yes good idea but what about Tues?
No one has followed up on the fact that it is World Arthritis Day.....Anyone doing anything then?
I know as a volunteer for Arthritis Care I'm helping to man a stall in the Newcastle Grainger Market where we plan to get the word out to all and sundry. There are so many about that think.."I've got arthritis....thats it"....they dont know about the things that are available to them. Various benefits, blue badge , support from branch meetings, this forum etc. So that will be me on Tues...positive...not so sure about Monday but I agree with the idea in principle.

    Hi Elna

I hope you are doing well. I agree with what you've said. A tongue in cheek celebration and the odd smile won't hurt!

I'll always be there for support to anyone in need.

    Take care.

    I think it's a grand idea, Airwave :D

In fact, can I cheat, and have today as my Monday? It's been such a good day.

We went to Cockermouth this afternoon - it'll be a year next month since the floods. The weather was glorious - sunny, 20 degrees (I know :!: ). We walked the dogs by the river, and although it was sad to see some of the damage that can never be repaired, it was wonderful to be back on familiar territory - the dogs swimming, people smiling. We could walk into town across the footbridge which has been rebuilt, and see the town buzzing with people, most of the shops open again (not all, but most). We've been there lots since the floods, but today felt like the old Cockermouth.

I've come over all emotional now  'Twas a very good day. Hope you all have an equally good "Monday"

    Love, Lynn xxx
