Hello everyone, hope you are all a bit better and coping well. It's been a bit chilly here today, I'm back to wearing socks in bed again. I've booked my transport for next Monday's appointment at the chest clinic, and rung the Rheumatology clinic to give them a gentle shove by reminding them I only have two injections left, and my sharps box is packed solid.
Oh Toni, please don't feel guilty for the pies. I think she enjoys looking after us all. Chester and Campbell don't like pies, but I bet they eat the cake.
Barbara, glad your MRI went well. Hope you don't have to wait too long for the results and that they are good ones. Glad to hear you are being spoiled too.
Oh Christine, your poor eyes. I know just how you feel in spite of my eye drops. Have you tried Lacrilube?
Cate, thanks for the tip, but if we didn't go shopping, we wouldn't get out at all.But it is something I'll keep in mind.
Sausage Pie recipe
Ingredients
Serves: 8
Pastry
280g (10 oz) plain flour
1 pinch salt
140g (5 oz) fat (butter, margarine or lard)
Filling
450g (1 lb) sausage meat
1 medium onion, chopped
1 tablespoon tomato sauce
1 teaspoon dried sage or mixed herbs
salt and pepper to taste
milk for brushing
Method
Prep:15min › Cook:45min › Ready in:1hr
Preheat oven to 180 C / Gas 4.
Sift flour into a large mixing bowl, add salt and rub in fat till the mixture looks like breadcrumbs. Knead until a firm dough forms and divide in 2 parts. Line a 18x28cm (7x11 in) Swiss roll tin with one pastry piece.
Mix together all the ingredients for the filling and place into pastry case.
Roll out the other half of the pastry and place on top of the pie. Brush with milk.
Bake for 45 minutes or until well browned.
Tip
Instead of one large pie, make smaller individual pies. The individual pies are not only portable, but also easier to freeze!
ENJOY

I've sent that recipe to Emily, it's one I used to make for OH years ago when I could still bake/cook. He loved it. I'd lost the recipe, so decided to search for it and found it on the website on the link I posted. Before RA, I'd have a 'bake day' on a Tuesday. I'd start with pastries, one chicken and ham pie, one steak and kidney pie, 3 fruit pies, egg custard and a lemon meringue, jam tarts and lemon curd tarts. Next would be a mixture of cakes, fruit, coconut, Victoria sponge, butterfly cakes. Then I'd do different breads, and bread rolls - or as we call them where I come from 'cobs'. This would be a days job, but with a hard working husband and at that time 4 growing children, they never lasted the week.
So maybe Emily got her baking from me. Your thanks have been duly noted and conveyed.
Dull and drizzly here. So will gaze upon the sun on here.

Toni, so so pleased for the Lovely Lucy......and her equally lovely mum. What a brave young lady she is. And, you know what, this experience - dreadful though it's been - will make her a better person, with an empathy for others that some people never acquire.x.
Wow, our Kath, you should have opened your own bakery. You would have made a fortune. The one in my town that I have mentioned before, was started in 1924 by a lady on her own. She is long gone, but it's still run by the family, who are now millionaires, with three shops. I'm dribbling here, thinking of their meat and tater pies! As for the sherry trifles....heaven.
Barbara, I hope the little one is OK by tomorrow. I will be thinking of her. Glad your MRI went well. Not the nicest things are they?
Hokay! Time for some Emily pie, and a nice big builders. Love to everyone ....Cate.x0 -
Just popping in quickly and skimmed through as I've left it late again.
Barbara, I see baby's op is postponed till tomorrow. Hope it goes ahead then. Glad your MRI went well. Hope you get the results soon.
Toni, glad Lucy's chemo went well.
Kath, I'd love to bake all those pies and tarts. I don't have the staying power though. Thanks for the sausage pie recipe.
Joan, hope you do get an earlier appointment.
Cate, I often buy something with the intention of cooking some and freezing some and end up putting it all at once in the freezer.
Elizabeth, hope you are still feeling good.
I've been fancying buying a tablet. As I have T*sc* vouchers to double up, I could get one of their own make Hudls refurbished for £9.99 or a brand new Hudl 2 for £59.99. I like the new one better but can't decide if it's worth the extra money.
:splash:  :bouncing-ball:Christine0 -
Morning all..still waiting for a text off dil..hopefully the baby's op will be over with soon..apparently she was starving..has she hadn't eaten form 9 the night before..bless..so she had her dinner and some tea then it was nothing by mouth again from 9 last night ..
Cate thankyou...hope you can enjoy your garden today... :sunny:
Toni hopefully today...I hope that Lucy is feeling ok after the chemo....like Cate says she is so very brave.Dr Tim must be your hero...hope you get out into your garden today...think the weather is set to change tomorrow..
Kath so it was your recipe..I will go and have a look at this website..not that I can do much baking these day.must train hubby up :bouncing-ball:
Christine dont overdo those eyes, never mind reading back just tell us what you have been up to  ..I bet the second hand hudle will be good they do sort them out before selling..maybe it worth giving it ago..but then again I know what you mean about a new one..not much help am i.. :island-shark:

Well, a nice full cafe this afternoon. Lovely.
Hope everyone is feeling pretty good considering.
Toni, yes, I know it's perhaps a bit late, but I'd love some eggy bread. I'm in a HUNGRY mood today.
Barbara, poor baby, I do hope she gets her op soon. Can't do much baking myself now either. Apart from anything else, I no longer have the room for a huge table like the one I used to have.
Christine, I know they're expensive, but we prefer the A***e iPad. Tried other brands, but didn't find them very reliable. :?
Cate, my children would never have allowed me to sell any of my produce, they wanted it all for themselves - greedy lot.I'll have a builder's with you if you don't mind. Not sure what to have to eat though, oh yes, some of Toni's eggy bread.
My memory is getting worse.
It's a bit chilly and windy out there today. :splash:"Women and cats will do as they please, and men and dogs should relax and get used to the idea." Robert A Heinlein

Morning Barbara,
Just popped in quickly to see how the little un is. Doesn't sound as if it's bothered her, brave little thing. It'll be her mum and dad who've been biting their nails down to their elbows! Give her a cuddle from me.
Off out and about for a few hours. Much love to everyone who pops in......Cate.x0 -
Barbara, so glad baby has had op and doing well now.
Sending best wishes to Toady, Joan, mig, Cate, Toni, Elizabeth, Barbara, Christine, and anyone I've missed.
Alcura rang yesterday, Methotrexate should be delivered next Thursday. This morning I received a card from them with date and time for my sharps box to be collected. I hope a new one arrives soon, as the full one is choc-a-block. I was clearing out some stuff and found a box of needles I'd used for syringing saline solution to mix colymicin got nebulizing (antibiotic). They are too big for me to use with MTX, so stuffed them in my sharps box, which is why it's so full.
