Joan, thank you, yes today hasn't been too bad. I've put a new blog up, called Poetry and me. with photos of Alfred, Lord Tennyson, Walter De La Mer, and Sara Teasdale, plus a photo of the book mum used to teach me to read at the age of 3. It was called Tip, about a dog. Can't remember much about it now, but I loved it at the time.

Glad the baby is back home Barbara. They bounce back so quickly, don't they?
Kath, I was thinking I'd heard of Alcura. Like Barbara, I thought of the creams in Ald*.
Joan, hope you and Sue are as well as you can be.
I've just read that they are aiming to build a plane that will take 90 minutes to get from London to Melbourne. it should be ready by 2030 so I've told my daughter I'll be visiting for regular weekends in 15 years time.Christine0 -
Hope the baby is getting on ok Barbara. Mig0

I posted a long post, but it's gone!! But here's a photo of Emily's sausagemeat pie. Help yourself.
Toni, the kitchen looks fab.
mig, perhaps Her Majesty would like a piece of the pie.
Barbara, very glad the baby is eating well.I have had some of my poetry published. Alcura used to be Central Home Care.
Joan, our local council run a dial a ride, it's a flat fee of £1 to bus pass holders.
Sending hugs to Elizabeth, Christine, Cate, and especially Toady (hope you are OK Toady).

Oh, Barbara, poor baby. I hope her throat doesn't get worse before it gets better. Sounds as if it isn't bothering her at the moment if she's eating everything. Sorry you're not sleeping but how great to see the foxes.
Joan it's good you can get out and borrow a scooter while you're there. It's a good idea.
Toni, how good to get a video of your car getting it's service. At least you know it has been done. I'd love to see a photo of Lucy's new hairdo. I'm sure she looks great. And we've left all the cleaning to you again. We shouldn't be allowed in the cafe. You'll have to draw up a rota for us all to do our bit. :swim-shark:
Mig, hope you enjoy your trips to the palace and Blackppol. Sticky ginger cake. I love ginger. Yummy.
Kath, it's so annoying losing a long post. Still haven't got round to making the sausage pie. The pastry and sausagemeat are still in the freezer so I'll have a slice of Emily's. Thank you.
Spent most of the day indoors pottering about as the weather wasn't tempting me out. Managed to sort out a couple of carrier bags for the charity shop. Coming up to teatime, the sun came out so I popped out to do some deadheading. The sun was lovely and warm for a while but then I heard the thunder and a few spots of rain. I just had enough time to clear away before it poured down. It's still rumbling away.Christine0 -

Hello everyone,
Oops, no one around, just me and Ems sausage pie, and mig's ginger cake. Oh well, early bird and all that. Now where's me knife and fork!
Kath, well done having your poetry published. Such a clever family.
It's about the five day mark for Barbara's grandgirlie, so I hope she isn't suffering too much. They did say she might.
Christine, , so Oz isn't far enough for you? Some folk are never satisfied!
Our Toni's done a lovely job, everywhere is sparkling. I've brought some freesias - my favourite - to brighten the place up even more.
I didn't know about Dial a Ride Joan. Just had a look and they do it in my area too, so will bear that in mind as driving is difficult now when my shoulders and neck are bad.
Right, will sit out with my book. Not much sun, but very warm......Much love to everyone, especially anyone I haven't mentioned....Cate.x0 -
Afternoon all..would you believe its my hand that keeps me awake not this back or hips..I was suppose to have the little bone removed form the base of my thumb...but I had my hip replaced and need to use crutches..now this other hip wants doing..wi8ll have to check the recovery rate for thumbs... :bouncing-ball: the joy...
The baby throat was sore yesterday so she slept with mum..and daddy slept on the settee..and our son has just rang to say they wont come up, because its really sore today..suppose it will soon start to ease off..bless
Cate thankyou...I use the ring and ride has its called here, you have to register and book the trip..enjoy you book in the garden..there is nothing nicer.. :deckchair:
Kath I could just eat a chunk of that pie..it looks just like my mum used to make..she was in service and a brilliant cook..unlike me..
Christine thankyou for asking about the baby....I am coming with you always wanted to visit another planet...glad you got out into the garden..I sit there looking at what wants doing.. :too-hot:
very humid here...but a breeze getting up, like you Christine we had the thunder yesterday after a very hot day..I closed the curtains and put mu fingers in my ears...
It said thunder at lunch today but nothing yet...fingers crossed..
Still no toady...hope things are not too bad..
Anyone for a cuppa... :sunny:Love

Phew, it is so hot here. :too-hot: I'll get the paddling pool out again I think.
:splash:
Ah. that's better.
Barbara, so sorry your thumb hurts and that baby has a sore throat. Help yourself to pie, that's if Cate's saved us some. :? I'm sure Emily will bake another one soon.
Cate, those Freesias smell beautiful. I hope your book was good. I can't manage books now as my eyesight is getting worse. My favourite read is 'People's Friend'.
:deckchair:
Christine, think I'll give Mars a miss - OH says I already live on another planet anyway.
Still no Toady. This is really worrying. :?
Joan, Elizabeth and mig, hope you are having a good weekend.

Oh none of Emily's pie or Mig's ginger cake left. I wonder who ate it all Cate. Very cloudy but very warm here too. Lovely freesias. One of my favourites.
Barbara, sometimes it's the smallest things that can cause the most pain. Hope it isn't too long before you can get your thumb sorted. Poor baby. I hope that's the worst bit over and her throat eases off quickly now.
Kath, I think I need to catch up on your blogs. I'm sure you said you had both added more. I always get round to doing things but sometimes it does take a while. :hammock:
I'm not really going to Mars (as you've probably realised). But my name is going. NASA are sending up a rocket and are taking names with them. I know some real people are going soon. Not sure when. They are having to take everything they might need with them and they won't be coming back.
My dad wasn't too well when I visited on Friday. They ended up sending for an ambulance last night. He has a bad water infection. Just been to visit at the hospital and he's quite tired but they're not worried. The home didn't send anything with him so we had to get a bag together with things he'll need.
Just watching Big Blue Live. Some of it has been shot earlier but some of it is live. It's fascinating to see such large sea animals.
Hope everyone is having a good weekend.Christine0 -
Sorry been AWOL. Did think of Barbara and her GD and hope is well.
I've had my Daughter to stay for 5 days and we've all had a lovely time! She' seems very happy and looking forward to her MA at Sunderland uni starting in Oct. I was impressed by her kindle so bought one for myself. Only bad thing was her Dad and her two little brothers were at the Shoreham Airshow when the jet crashed. Unhurt obviously but not a nice thing for excited little children to witness on a day out.
Everything else is going well and the injection is still working...oh yes the apple tree fell down as its been raining heavily and the tree was full of apples! It was upright when I brought the washing in and 10 mins later it was down.
I'm sorry to read your Dad is unwell Applerose and hope he can come home soon.
Linda legs is having a thumb op Barbara although not sure if its the same problem. But yes I find my elbow usually causes me pain after using my crutches.
Its lovely to hear that Lucy has had her hair done, not surprised it made you bawl Toni.
Weather has been far too hot. I fell asleep under the apple tree (not the one that fell down luckily) and woke up thinking I'd heard thunder.
Okay so no Toady for ages.....I'm assuming she's going through a difficult spell. Hope you get better soon Toady,

Hello Elizabeth
Lovely to hear such an upbeat post from you. I think the visit from your daughter has done you the world of goodSorry about her family having to witness such an awful thing, but so glad they were unharmed :?
Good to hear the injection is still holding - long may that lastI'm shocked about the apple tree and hope your Lucy is ok after her faint. Kids don't always drink enough do they?
Christine I hope your Dad is ok now or at least on the mend bless him. The home should have packed him a bag surely? Still it's been done by you with the care only family can supply.
I'm glad you aren't actually going to mars!!!
Hi KathT Too hot for you too? Did you get any rain yet?? We have it's much better. People's friend!! Well I haven't read that in years - I think maybe my mum used to read it???
Those pies!!!
Poor you Barbara - we need our thumbs don't we? Mine has played me up from time to time, so I can't cut food sometimes, but has usually settled. Think is you can't rest it if you use crutches can you? I hope Baby is on the mend today.
Thanks for the Freesias Cate they look and smell divineNow you are getting the blame for eating all the ginger cake and pies????
Definitely a reading day when it's hot
Love
Toni xxx
Ps I hope Joan is ok and poor Toady too ((()))0 -
Isn't it lovely to hear from Cris? So sad about her dog and I would feel the same if in her shoes.
Lucy was going to a cat cafe in London with her big sister when she felt faint and so had to return home and she had been so looking forward to it.
It was just so lovely to see Daughter no.1 happy and relaxed (although it made me feel old and bumbling compared to her). She's a Wizz at techie stuff and I'm slow and hesitant! Still I picked up a few helpful tips during the week.
It is pouring down with rain today. The swing arrived today but I really don't need it anymore!

Hello everyone. I'll let Emily know there's a job going at the cafe. Oh, here she comes now and the back of the car is packed with boxes and bags. Let's see - more sausage meat pies, cheese and onion pies, Apple pies, jam tarts. I asked for a Woolton Pie, don't know if anyone has tried it, I have and apart from the pastry being a bit cardboardy (no fat) it was lovely. So I think she's added some butter to the pastry mix. What's in this bag? More chocolate cake, and upside down pineapple cake. That'll keep us going for a day or two. Are you listening Cate?
Christine, I'm devastated, I thought you were really off to Mars. But I'm glad it's only your name as we would miss you too much.So sorry to hear about your dad.
Barbara, you must be very relieved the baby is doing so well.
Joan, have you managed to rearrange your appointment? Sending you some warming sun and extra hugs.
:sunny: :sunny: :sunny: :sunny: :sunny:
Elizabeth, so glad that time with your daughter has perked you up. What a shock to hear about her father and brothers being so close to the crash.
Today I had an appointment at the chest clinic. Lung function tests are a little lower than before, even though my oxygen levels are reasonably good. My consultant is swapping my Seretide inhaler for Fostair, and she is arranging for me to have another CT scan. She just wants to rule out blood clots on my lungs, but doesn't really think there are any. :?"Women and cats will do as they please, and men and dogs should relax and get used to the idea."
