Hi everyone, thanks for the welcome!
    You're all very friendly here!

Barbara, yes the Ibuprofen or paracetamol can be unpleasent on the stomach.

Been reading an interesting article (not here) about how vinegar can cure arthritis, find this hard to believe, the article suggested drinking cider vinegar mixed with honey and hot water four times a day, anyone here tried it?

Ibuprofen (or Brufen from the docs in those days) was my favourite treatment years ago in my 20's sadly they now give me agonising belly ache, (and worse!!), as do diclos etc so I have to take Arcoxia a Cox2 inhibitor which is gentler on the stomach.

Sam someone on this forum said she drank so much cider vinegar and honey that she actually got to like it!!! A few have tried it and no-one has said ti's cured their arthritis.

Yes we are a friendly bunch. This is a place you can guarantee support, kindness and never being judged :)

Hi there Bubbles - how are you? (Sam bubbles is the holder of the keys to our virtual drugs trolley ;) ).

We had snow too - glad it wasn't my imagination! Enjoy your family visit I hope it's still sunny for you :)

Aw I do hope Christine, that your youngest GD isn't coming down with anything :? That 'free' gift sounded rubbish and mean to disappoint a little girl :(

Thank you I hope my MIL gets out before we go away on Saturday :(

I think it can't be easy being a bloke in a residential home - they are a rare breed and might feel a bit 'persued'!!!

I hope our Barbara is still on the mend and sleeping ok. Also that Kath has got the right side of her pain by now :?

The news about Lucy's cancer treatment finishing next month is fabulous and the support from people on here has made me cry so many times. People like you all on here especially our Joan who has unfailingly checked in on us to offer a word or two.

Love to everyone who is missing I hope you are all ok

    Love

Hello everyone, guess what, I can almost walk again, and upright too. :D This morning OH went out in the front garden and I went to watch him work. It's my favourite passtime.

Hi Sam, I used to take cider vinegar years ago. Swigged it down hopefully, but sadly it didn't help me at all. :(

Barbara, OH once thought about trying Grecian 2000. But I like his hair the colour it is. light blondie brown with some white.

Hope this weekend will be rather better than last week. :o  :?

Bubbles, I'm like you. I get sick on boats any bigger than a row boat. Enjoy your lunch out tomorrow. :splash:

Sam, my boss's auntie was a paediatric consultant in Italy and she told me that over there, they tell people not to use paracetamol for more than 4 days at a time as it can cause stomach problems. My pharmacist told me not to use ibuprofen unless I'd eaten something. I think the vinegar thing, just as with all of the food and drinks we hear can help with arthritis, might work for some people but not for others. I haven't found anything that helps or makes it worse. :hammock:

Toni, I had to watch the little one like a hawk with her 'Make up'. One 'lipstick' was an eraser which she tried to apply to her lips. That wasn't too bad but another 'lipstick' was a biro and what looked like a bottle of nail varnish was a felt tip pen. I feel we in the café are all in it together, whatever it happens to be at the time so we are all here cheering Lucy on as well as the others who have had ops or are in a lot of pain, like Barbara and Kath and Elizabeth at the moment.

Joan, I did have a slow wander round our High Street and a slow walk home today as the sun was shining and it was quite warm. Hope you had some sun too.

Kath, that's a relief being able to walk a bit again. And to be able to take part in your favourite hobby. I know most women dye their hair but somehow it doesn't always work for men.

Mig, what are you like? Bet you visualise the men working in lycra too. :swim-shark:

Barbara, hope you enjoyed sitting in the sun and you sound as if you've got things sorted with your carrier bag. Great idea. You had the same idea about Mig's imagination as I did. Did the nurse take out the staples tonight? Hope so. It is very easy to bend without thinking. Hope it hasn't caused extra pain. :deckchair:

Didn't get my wages last week as my boss went away before payday. He did remember today though so I got 2 weeks together. I mentioned the fact that there was a new living wage starting tomorrow but I won't be getting a wage increase as I already get that much. :swim-shark: At least the sun was shining today so I enjoyed an hour wandering round our High Street and walking home.

Big hugs and hi to all.
Glad I am not on my own with boats Christine, deep water gives me the colly wobbles. I think I hardly drew breath when we came through the channel tunnel, many years back. "Are we there yet" as we sat in the car............
Cider vinegar and honey eeew, not sure about that one.

you would think that with all the major pain killers that we take, plus other drugs to limit pain signals to the brain, that we would be skipping and dancing. Doesn't quite work like that in real life. Pain dulling, yes, to a point, pain killing, nah, not a chance. The advert for Volta--- makes me laugh, rub some in and there you are doing cartwheels down the street, the joy of movement.

Had a fabulous lunch out with family, OH had not been to that neck of the woods ( I used to live in North Yorkshire so I knew it quite well). The food was a triumph. We ordered side orders of chips, thinking that they would be quite neat, in a little dish, no, huge baskets of them, we were buried in chips - heaven :) I ate as many as I could, as did the rest of us, even then there were enough to feed another family. LOL I had to keep popping to the loo, they were SO SO smart, lovely stone sinks, nice hand wash, spotless (always a plus). The weather was glorious, all in all a very nice couple of hours, by which time I was fading a bit. I blame the chips

Extra hugs to those in more pain than usual. I must away and potter a little before bed.
Take lots of care everyone, XXXXX Bubbles

First of all, apologies to everyone for not posting a menu this week. Must try harder this week.

Apologies also to mig. OH wasn't wearing Lycra while out in the garden. :| just trackys and a jumper. It's a bit overcast here today.

Yes Joan, I can finally give up the Quasimodo impression, although my groin and thigh are a bit sore - my own fault. OH called to let me know my prescription lady was approaching, and I jumped out of my chair and rushed more than I should, to get to the door. So my sciatica ( which was clearing rather nicely) is moaning at me. To make matters worse, my patches came off in bed last night and I didn't know until I woke up in pain. I don't know how long it takes for morphine to leave your system. :?

No Christine, I didn't make OH a cuppa, I'm not allowed in the kitchen. but it was pop man day, and he arrived while we were out there, so he had a guzzle of Dandelion and Burdock.

My rheumy told me not to take ibuprofen while on steroids and Leflunomide. I have high blood pressure, and ibuprofen makes it worse, as does Pred and Leflunomide. I go to see her on 18th. She runs the Osteoporosis clinic too.

Barbara, I hope your staples are out now. It's lovely to have some nice, warm sunny weather for once. Just as long as it doesn't get too hot. :too-hot:

Sorry for anyone I've missed, hope you are keeping pretty well.

    Afternoon all raining here..
The nurse came to take the staples out and she said I cant remove them all they are weeping and it could burst open... :o so she sated and took 18 out..think she has left 14 in..and put a dressing on...I was so expecting them to come out and all be well like last time..never mind..she will come toning for my injection and see if it has dried up..
Joan dont worry I am being good..honest.. :) not sitting for to long and keeping my feet moving ..hope you are ok..
Kath we are all guilty of this ..I used to do the same try and rush to the door, cant do it at the min...hope you carry on feeling well.and that sciatic stays a way
bubbles the meal sounded good...better to many chips than a few.. its does sound nice you will have to PM me the name for when I can get out and about... :)
Christine glad to see you had the sun ans could enjoy a wonder, nothing nicer I used to drift off in my own little world when walking..glad you at lets got your wages..funny but they never over pay..nope didn't get all the staples out...fingers crossed for tonight and I will take something before she comes..gosh she was rough..

Hi to all, hope everyone is as good as can be.

Kath, no rushing about, it is never worth it, says me, my own worst enemy.
Morphine doesn't tend to hang around in your system for too long, 3 or so hours for a small dose. Duck tape, that will keep them on LOL

OH tells me to "step away from the kitchen tops", lol. I sent tonic water from one end to the other. How can one small glass of tonic, turn into a flood and spread so blinking far. Radiculopathy is truly a pain in the veritable.

We don't want any wounds splitting Barbara, best to take alternate ones out first. Hopefully it will dry up asap. I loved taking staples out, although with my neuropathy, I will leave it to more nimble hands. Rough handed I see huh, that's not good practice....... :x Sutures, clips, staples, I was there in a flash on the wards, me me me, my turn.

Going to sit a while and watch Antiques Road Trip. We met Anita Manning a while back, when out for lunch, she is just lovely and you feel like you have known her for ever.

Hugs and well wishes to one and all. Take great care. XX Bubbles

Bubbles, those painkiller adverts make me laugh too. And the ones for creams to rub on. I'm like you when it comes to those baskets of chips. I hate waste. Did you post at 1 in the morning? And then go pottering before bed? I can't usually keep my eyes open past 10pm.

Joan, I've heard rumours of a heat wave coming up. Hope we all get some of it. Have a good weekend.

Kath, it is so easy when we start to feel a bit better to jump up without thinking. Hope the pain subsides quickly. I remember the pop man coming round. Don't have one round here.

Barbara, you must have been a bit disappointed not getting the staples out. Won't be long though. Hope she takes it easier tonight. I was just chatting to Elizabeth. It was her OH's 50th birthday but she was ill so missed the meal. Hopefully, she'll feel better tomorrow.

Finished work, visited my dad then got home and sat. Only got up to get food and drink. I was thinking of going for lunch tomorrow to a gluten free café but I've found out their chicken is halal. I feel that is very cruel to the animals so don't want to go now.

It was indeed one in the morning Christine. I am terrible, not wanting to go to bed, it's a long story but basically stems back from my past heart attacks. Having the irrational idea that if I go to bed I won't wake up - I know, crazy, but, it haunts me to this day, admittedly less so, but OH does have to push me to take my night pills and get into bed.

I would potter all night, if I keep going, I will keep going, if all that makes any sense at all. Our neighbour always says, it would not matter what time it was if I needed you, there are always lights on, lol.

No sending those nice young men in their clean white coats to carry me off to Shady Pines.

It is raining heavily here, but the weather seems set to get warmer over the week end. :sunny:

Hope everyone has as good a week end as possible. Hugs and well wishes. Take lots of care XXXX Bubbles

Bubbles I can totally understand your fear of sleeping. Bless you I would be anxious too. No - no men taking you to shady pines last night.

I can't remember whether I found time to post yesterday, but I have posted about Lucy's ortho' consultant on the frogmorton thread.

Off to finish packing now! Back in one week.

Barbara keep on recovering and Kath - sending you some extra pain relief.

Oh Bubbles. A while back, I often didn't want to go to sleep. I think it was because I was noticing the exact moment I was falling asleep and it scared the life out of me and I jumped awake then forced myself to stay awake. It felt as that if I did fall asleep, I wouldn't wake up so I can understand a bit how you feel. Certainly no need for men in white coats. Miserable here weather wise. Our forecast said it would be nice further south later but looks like we might have rain for a few days. :sunny:

Mig, the weather does affect our mood, doesn't it? Grey and wet here too. We need more :sunny:

Toni, I want to come with you. Think we all probably do. See you in a week. Have a brilliant time. :deckchair:

Barbara, only 5 staples left. You're getting there. I did hear about a heat wave but I think it's only down south. Looks like we have rain all week. I'm really hoping your back will ease as time goes by.

The weather is not encouraging me to go out so think I'll have some lunch then sort out photos. I've uploaded hundreds to my laptop but some have gone in to separate folders so I need to sort that out. And some more studying. Must do some exercise as I'm feeling more stiff than usual.

Hello nice to see Kath up and about and Barbara it seems early for staple removal surely?

So OH was 50 yesterday and we had a family meal booked but we were both so ill in the night so I stayed at home and tried to rest. I must have a bug as I was sick but my pounding head is quite frequent nowadays.

So OH is now ill and in bed and I'm struggling along but better than yesterday. I'm sad at missing the meal but the others enjoyed it so that was good. I now feel I need to book it again and have a turn at celebrating his 50th.

It is lovely and sunny here so I might have a little sit in the garden.

Years ago I used to page my OH and I must have driven him made. I must say he needed telling all the time as looking after the kids did not come naturally.

Dan has another sleep over on Thursday. I've ot had any feed back as OH collected him. I'll take that as good news. I'm also having Social services writing reports and they are useless! I'm not signing anything until they get it right.

    Toni have a loveley holiday!

    Joan hope you are well.

Thanks Applerose for messaging and sending the link. I haven't posted it cos they are a bit up themselves (hope i'm allowed to say that) on that page, always complaining about irrelevent posts etc however they are great with the dogs, love and care for them well so that is why I support them.

Bubbles I can understand where your fear comes from. I'm sure I'd be the same if in your shoes.

Right I must pop off as Dan is here wanting the laptop. Just time to check fb,

Elizabeth, hope you are better by now and your OH is starting to recover. Some men just have no idea about bringing up kids. Think the kids manage all on their own. Hope you get those reports properly written soon. No problem re the link. They might already know what it said anyway.

Joan, that is kind of you letting us sit in your garden. It has been grey and raining all day here.

I was on FB this afternoon and saw a post from Lucy saying they were just about to board the plane. Couldn't help getting excited for them. They'll be there now. Managed to do another module on my course so half a module away from half way. It's my youngest GD's 3rd birthday tomorrow so she's having a little party.

Hope everyone is having at least a reasonable weekend.

Good to see Elizabeth is feeling a little better..but rotten that OH is poorly now..so not much help to her..it will be brilliant if Dan enjoys the sleepovers...fingers crossed
Joan..how nice you have had the good weather ..it was sunny but chilly here...you enjoy it
Christine..you are getting there with pics..you enjoy your GDs 3 rd Birthday...wonder what she will get.. :D you carry on with the course..it will be worth it in the end..thanks for letting us know that Toni got away safe and sound.. :D
Well we waited till 10.15 last night for the nurses...I had taken my meds at 7 so they were wearing off...it was a new nurse and she wouldn't take the last five staples out..she will come toning and if they look any different she will do them and use sterile strips to hold it together..she said there is a flap of skin with no staples and they are worried if I sit down after they are out it would open up. :o .they really hurt now to sit on...
The sun has just come out ...hopefully it will stay....and can get some fresh air....
Hope you all have a good day..xxxxxxxx

A bright sunny afternoon, to one and all. Hugs and well wishes. It must be frustrating not getting those last staples out Barbara. Steri strips do hold quite well, but they tend to work loose and are not waterproof unless covered.

I am glad I am not the only one who has trouble with sleeps. I know sleeping pills are not the answer, but my Consultant Cardiologist says it is more important for me to remain as calm as possible, hence he is all for me being drugged up to the eyes   My GP agrees too.

I am normally fading by 5-6pm and need to rest, you would think with Co Codamol, Pregabalin, Tramadol, Vallium, plus all the heart pills, I would be out for the count - nope. I could fall asleep in my chair, but I would be unable to move when I woke up.

Went to visit OH Niece yesterday, as it was her B Day party, 32, gosh, how the years fly. Their only loo is upstairs, so that was like looking up the north face of Everest. I waited as long as possible. One of the younger generation was upstairs getting changed, looking at me oddly - Going backwards down any stairs is safer and marginally less painful.

I am rambling, forgive me. I will away and sort out the next helping of pills.
    Everyone take care, XXXX Bubbles

Barbara, the nurse was very late coming. I'm sure there's nothing to worry about. The steristrips should help with the healing. More comfortable than the staples I would think. Hope you got out in to the garden for some sun. :deckchair:

Bubbles, I can just picture the young person's face when you were coming down the stairs. S/he wouldn't understand but things like that don't bother me any more. Sometimes, I notice people of all ages looking at my shoes. I wonder if they are wondering why I'm wearing young people's trainers but all that matters is I can actually walk with them on. As for rambling, I'm often guilty of that on here so ramble away. :splash:

I think my GD, Anna from Frozen today, enjoyed her party. It was just the family but apparently she spent last evening practicing unwrapping presents by using her toys and the leftover wrapping paper. She got a sandpit off her mum and dad which she loves. As she has loads of toys, grandma bought her frozen bedding and I'm getting her clothes for her holiday. I'll wait till nearer the time though. I gave her some tiny ponies for now.

    Morning all...sunny this morning...
The nurse cam last night just short of 11..I realty feel for them..she said there used to be 15 on night because they cover such a big area..but now the are 7..and the trainees have to go it alone...anyhow the last staples are out and steris on...she told me to ring if there were any probs..there weren't thank goodness.. :D
bubbles thankyou for the advice I will stay clear of the shower till weds when they take the strips off...I can imagine the face on the young one seeing you go backwards..I am another that is good at rambling..think it might be good for us...
Christine..I meant to ask, I forgot what course you are doing...sorry my brain... :? so your GD is Anna now..what a good idea practicing unwrapping... oh bless....and like you say who care what we were as long has you are comfy...anyhow you are not old for trainers... :)
Not sure if Joan was around yesterday..I worry when we dont hear from her...and hope that Toni and family are relaxing in the sun
