    hi Barbara

Sorry it didn't go as planned - was thinking about you all day. They always seem to move the goal posts don't they - they should just tell us exactly what is going on in what order and how long we have to wait. fingers crossed you won't have to wait 8 months but we'll all be with you every step of the way.

    take care

    Hi Barbara,
So sorry to hear the appointment did not pan out as expected, but as people have said, support is our speciality so do not apologise.

We too have learned from what you have been told. It is devastating news about the cuts in NHS services. Only a few years ago more specialists were employed to cut the waiting lists, now it is as if that had not happened.

Might recording your pain, disability, circumstances and request for a THR in a letter to the consultant, with a copy to your GP, be a good idea or not?
Might you be able to take the chance of a cancellation and have an op. at short notice? If so and there was a cancellation list might you ask to be put on that?
    Just thoughts.
    Puffin.

    Hi Barbara,

    Oh flower what a shambles!

Look the jabs may well help and shouldn;t bring you more pain! Have them but in the meantime do you have a ortho consultant you can ring? Might be a good idea if you have.

was she standing to talk?! My rumo was happy to put me on the list 9bar the complications i got with lifestyle/living place/neck etc) after just examining the lack of movement. no xrays, no jabs in fact nothing except his examination so come on.....

What she meant is she couldn't put you on the lists so see if you can have a phone call with someone who can!

So wish it had been a better appointment and Barbara why were they shouting at you? Love and ((((( ))))) Cris xxx

    Hi Barbera..

Sorry it didn'y quite go to plan yesterday..
Please don't let one step back set you back completely..It is not your fault.. You had to make a decision that you thought was right for you.. You are entitled to do that... it's your body.. The docs are there to look afetr us...
So now you have to wait for an appointment to discuss this with your doc again??? Maybe see when the appointment is.. if it seems to far away maybe ask if you can be put down incase of any cancellations.. it might speed things up for you..
Whatever you do, don't give up luvie... we are all here to support you.. and will be with you on pocket duties everytime... i quite enjoy the day out lol..
    Wish you well
    Keep us posted

Morning Barbara, I hope you are OK today (well, as OK as you can be). I hope you were able to sleep and that you are ready to start making those phone calls. Be polite, but persistent, don't let people fob you off. Oh - if you are not ready to do them, that's equally fine! DD

    Hi Barbara,

You did not waste our time!!! If it helped knowing we were with you then that is good. I know it sounds daft but i remember when i first joined and everyone pocket dwelled on my first rheumy app , it really did help me , silly isnt it? but its knowing that everyone cares and are with you in thoughts.

You have the injections , as it looks like that is the route you must follow, and speak to GP consultants whoever about the 'op' in the meantime . i really dont know anything about THR just wanted to give my support . Hope you are feeling a little better today.

    Take care

A big thank you to Tracy, Katie, Puffin, Cris, Traluvie, DD, Coco, Julie, Tilliytop, Tinks, Rose, and Tillypink....
Thanks all of you for going to the trouble to post on my thread....sorry I have not been on earlier...I am so tired....suppose its all thats going on.
Anyway I have got my consultant secretary's num off the net...so I wrote down what I wanted to say...and gave her a ring...I was very polite...and explained everything......but all she kept saying .... he says in your letter he wanted you to have the injections....so I said he offered me a THR and when he saw how scared I was he asked did I want to try the injections......to cut a long story short...I told her I just wanted to get on his list for my THR......because of the changes in the 2 months since I saw him.
Anyway she said I will have a word with him and get back to you.......but she then had the last word  and said he wont be very pleased
Sorry to go on...but I will keep you all updated
    Love to everyone

How dare she presume to know what his reaction might, or might not be. Honestly, these jumped-up little office-bodies, don't listen to her. If your guy has any compassion/understanding then he will know that these decisions are a very big deal for the patients and he will comprehend that sometimes they don't always make the right one at the right time. When told that a replacement is an option that is one thing, to accept it is another. To go through with it is a third thing altogether and surely one has to be in the 'right place' mentally to do so - and if that means that the head has to catch up with the body well I am sure that is par for the course. Have I explained that well? Probably not. Sorry. I hope, tho, that you can sort of see what I am driving at. Stick to your guns, Barbara, I'll lend you mine if you need some extra! DD

    Barbara

Glad you found the courage to phone and so sorry you spoke to someone so frankly abnoxious. How very dare she?!! :x I am sure your Consultant will understand your reasons for wanting to go ahead now. As DD says the mental preparation seem sometimess to be the hardest hurdle to jump. I hope they do get back to you soon. Hang in there love, rest up but keep in touch and let us know how things go.

    Hi Barbara,

Well done for phoning and she sounds like a right dragon... I am lucky the rumo secretary is lovely and very helpful but the rest... you feel the fire and brimstone coming down the phone

He should get back to you but if he doesn't do him a letter and then wait a couple of days and ring again.

i so hope you can get n the list but still think there is nothing really to lose in having the injections. Sometimes they work really well but it does depend on how good the person doing it actually is.

really proud of you by the way. Love and ((((( ))))) Cris xx

    Hi Barbara

I've not been able to get on the Forum much recently, but have just been catching up with your thread..

What a disappointing appointment... I do hope you get to see the consultant team soon and get on the list for a THR.. you've obviously deteriorated a lot over the last few months.. You won't regret having it done (I wouldn't hesitate to have my other one done, if need be)...

You're a tough lady Barbara to put up with all the pain for so long, but there is light at the end of the tunnel for you.. hang on in there.. your life will be transformed, I promise..

    Take care

Another big thankyou to DD, Chris, Cris, Lynn, and Marion
I honestly dont know what I would do without you lot especially has you all your your own pain.
I have just had a phone call of the secretary, not brilliant news , she has spoke to the consultant, and he want to do the injections before the OP, he is also doing something else, I think he is going to have a look with a camera  in both hips he will keep me in for the night....because I have reactions to anaesthetic...the first one was when my knee was injected....then when they did my back it was even worse.
So the upshot is.....I have been a wimp...and said ok I will have them...but I need to go on the list now to have the first THR.
She said he will probably put me on the list within weeks of the injections.....
sorry I am has confused has you are......why not just do the THR.....so she is sending me a new appointment.
Gosh what you do when you are in pain.
    Thank you everyone
    Love

    Hi Barbara,

I am glad your message about wanting to have a THR has been heard and passed on to the surgeon/consultant. The Secretarys comments about he will not be pleased are confusing. Why would he not be pleased you have decided to go ahead with an op because you have deteriorated rapidly!

I can see that having made this decision to go ahead with the THR you just want to get on with it and get on the list so see no need to bother with these other treatments. It may be that you have to have injections and investigative treatment to jump the queue somewhat as they will see your pain close up. You won't just be left to get on with it.
There is no harm in asking them to miss out these other treatments though or at least ask if they are really necessary.

    all the best

    Hi Barbara,

Glad they got back to you and well the jabs might help? Some people find them useful and the first ones tend to be the ones that have the best result.....

Hey be interesting though to see your hips with a camera.

They all have their own systems and they all do it their way so there is this huge variation on how you get on a list.... maybe cus of the anesthetic reaction they are going to be more thorough before the op with you?

Stop calling your self the wimp thing... you sure ain't! love and (((( )))) Cris xx

    Hi Barbara,
No wonder you are shattered with all the stress you have had this week. See what the appointment letter says and go from there. The camera thing might decide one way or another if the injections are worth doing or not.
Not easy I know but try and put things at the back of your mind for a couple of days until you feel a bit stronger in yourself.
    Lots of hugs flower.

    Hi Barbara

Sorry you have come up against the rigid bureaucracy...!

I've never heard of the camera thing with regards to the hips, but it does sound like it might be a useful procedure .. the surgeon will be absolutely certain then what the problems are, and there should be no surprises for him when he does the THR.. I just hope you get on the 'list' for a THR very soon though.. when you have had that 'rapid deterioration' (which I also had) every day is absolute agony and you just want to get it sorted as soon as possible..

    Take care

    Hi barbara
Just popped in to see how you are getting on.
Receptionists/secretaries are people selected with out a heart.
she had no right of a last word. (****)
I hope the injections give you a little relief then and that the camera shows the cause of your problem.
When you are on the list I hope that you don't have to wait too long for the op.

    Hi Barbara.
Hope you are ok. thought I would just let you know that you have my support and I hope that the injections and camera thing go ok. Its my guess that when he sees the state of your hip he will be putting you on the list without delay, and you might even get a cancellation. Whatever happens you know that we will be there for you

    Hi Barbara

No wonder you are getting befuddled there with all this. So I guess you will now need another pre op for the injection and camera thingy before he can get you on the THR list? Your Consultant does sound like he is doing his best for you, by hopefully getting the pain under control in the short term and having a look to see what is happening there. Hang in there love, we are still listening and ready for pocket dwelling.
much love and hugs (((( ))))
