Hello Toni, Rehab, Coco, Joanne, Cath and Val
Rehab - re my carrots: I planted them in my new raised bed, seeds a quarter inch or so deep, and covered them with vermiculite cos my info suggested that if the soil tends to crust over, they can find it hard to push their little leaves through. I have worked hard to keep them well watered. Any advice welcome. Thanks.
Toni, sounds as if your seeds have gone MAD! The flower seeds I planted only a couple of days ago are sprouting madly too - can't believe how quickly they have popped up! Certainly much cooler today but don't know if any frost have been forecast. I'd keep your plastic covering at the ready just in case!
Love Tillyxxx0 -
I have it at the ready folks....
my plastic and some fleece too...l really fear the frost could be along very soon maybe tonight or tomorrow
Tilly l have got things popping up all over the place - it's lovely and SOOOOO exiting

Hello Rehab and Toni
So you think I've done the right thing with me carrots then Rehab? That's good. What isn't good is the waiting cos I aint very patient! Will keep you posted on progress if/when there is any!
Toni- oh yes ISN'T it exciting with all the seeds popping up?
Possibly planning a second raised bedto be constructed with the "leftovers" from the first one. Oh there's no stopping me now!

Oh thanks for the encouraging words Rehab! Oh I'd love all those things, plus a cow and some alpacas but I think that might just be a tad ambitious given the size of the garden and proximity of the neighbours! I've been hankering after chickens for a long time but I'd want to let them run free and, as OH is regularly telling me, it's not possible to have a garden AND chickens, tis one or the other!

Rehab Tilly is safely 'down south' from us and hopefully it was warmer?
am going outside with me hedge trimmers
knickers to the hands and fingers eh?!!
Love
Toni xx0 -
Ooh, knickers as pain relief eh? Worth a try I reckon! Think you've started something there Toni!
Further south I may be, but it is still flipping chilly here today! Sunny, but brisk as they say.
Found a dratted sparrow tucking into me radishes and lettuces earlier. NOT pleased! You mention chicken nuggets Rehab, well I reckon it will be SPARROW nuggets if they carry on like that!
Hope you had success with the hedge trimming Toni!

Thanks for sharing this link Rehab. I'm growing my tomatoes in pots in the conservatory and I think I might have potted them on too soon as they're a bit tall and thin .....a bit like me.I have got flowers on them though so at least that's a plus

Hi everyone, Ive got a tip for tomatoes if you grow too many like i have  Greenhouse full... well i didnt know they were all going to come up did i !!!
You can freeze tomatoes..remove the calyx (Green stem) & pop them whole into freeze bags. Then you can take them out as needed. There perfect for pizza base, soup, adding to spaghetti boul, sauces etc..just add a little sugar to them first & there a little watery.
If you just drop the whole tomato into a bowl of cold water the skins rub of straight away. Alternatily you can puree them & freeze them that way.
Hope thats a helpful tip for the gardeners out there.
Happy gardening all, debs0 -
Hi Minkymash
A really easy tomato soup is to drop any number of tomatoes in a pan, half cover with water, add a teaspoon of sugar, dessert spoon of wine vinegar and a vegetable stock cube. Cook for 15-20 mins. Leave to go cool then slip the skins off the tomatoes. Liquidise. Season and/or dilute to taste.Love, Legs x

Hi Legs,lovely recipe thank you.
I havent followed this thread right through as theres too much to read.
So sorry if i repeat anything.
If you want to freeze runner beans, string & slice them, i boil them for about 5mins then rinse them under cold water in a colendar then pop in freeze bags. They taste as fresh as just picked.

Great advice there Legs and Debs
Did l read Rehab suggesting we share some love :???:
Debs you sound like me - l feel cruel thinning out my seedlings so tend to end up with a load of rubbish ones as well as some good ones!!
So glad we had rain today.
But listen to this.....how stoooopid am l?? the tap was open on one of my water butts  l want top slap myself hard on the forehead!!
Love tonixx0
