I noticed that Marigolds (not the gloves  ) are also edible - it said on the seed packet.

me and my son de-turfed part of the garden ready to put together some decking. the grass wont take in that part of the garden so given up and desided to put in the hard work and deck it so it becomes useable area. going to build a new gate also for the bottom level. so lots of work to keep us going.

hope everyone is ok and there gardens are looking good, x

Hello everyone ,We have put artifical grass on our back garden, We had flags that looked horrible , my hubby was working a the local universaty while they where redoing the football pitches , they gave the old one away . They put it in the local paper at the end of the job . asking if anyone wanted it , they where over run with cars and vans going to pick it up .
It looks good , we hover it if it gets a lot of leaves on it , it do look funny  , .....jillyx

    Hi Jilly

    Elna likes this. :grin::lol:

What a great idea and a freebie too.:grin: We have allsorts in our "grass", moss, buttercups, daisies and so many dandelions that the mower does not really touch and especially in this glorious weather everyday there are more dandelion flowers victoriously opening up, until I pinch the flowers off and throw them in the compost bin!

I am going to ask a silly question but why do people tie up their daffodil leaves after they flower. Should you just cut them down?

Hi Elizibeth , I was told it was done so that the plant can get all the goodness back from the leaves , and it looks tidy ...........I dont think it works so i dont do it .............i bet someone knows a better answer .....jillyx

    Hi Elizabeth and Jilly

That is what I have heard as well, but when I think it looks too untidy, want to plant something else there, or some of them are dying off, I pull the leaves off. I used to go to the trouble of tying them up or even removing the daff, bulb and all, putting them in a shallow trench somewhere in the garden with some soil over the bulbs and let them die off that way. Then store them until the following year in net sacks. Now I get rid of the leaves when I feel like it, the daffs always seem to come up and multiply well in the tubs and barrels/ground.

    Hello happy gardeners!

Re daff leaves - I think tying them up is not considered "the thing" these days - and it's certainly very fiddly. I think you are just supposed to deadhead them when they finish flowering and then leave the leaves for a while to get the goodness back into the bulbs. Like Elna, when they get too untidy and dead looking I just cut them off part way down and they always come up fine next year.

Today I have had a WONDERFUL day in the garden planting flower seeds; cosmos, more geraniums, sunflowers, nasturtiums, french marigolds, tagetes, calendula. More veg seeds to plant tomorrow I think; peas, beans, cucumbers and more lettuce, radishes and beetroot.

Hope you are all enjoying your gardens in this glorious sunshine!

Thanks guys and gals. That does help. I did deadhead them then cut the middle stem down and now I can take the leaves off too and know I am not doing the wrong thing. I love gardening, used to a lot of gardens from scratch before R.A (to me it is on the artistic side of life) but never really knew what to do with daffs, having seen loads tied up.
I want to plant other flowers too Elna and that is why I want to tidy them up.

Hello Del, Rehab, Coco, Val and Elizabeth!

Glad you got the daff advice you needed Elizabeth.

Sounds as if you are making great progress Coco!

Val - you mention carrots. Can I ask if you find that they are difficult to get going? I've planted carrots for the first time this year and they are now coming up but not all of them and they have been very slow. Any advice welcome.

    Morning!
Coco I am soooo impressed I have been reading back at your posts and your gardening has moved leaps and bounds. The good thing is that this lovely "Early Summer" has let you get it done early so you will now be able to sit back and enjoy when the "Real Summer" comes. Well done you! and your OH of course!
