    ahhhh yes christmas dd. :???:

That was a nice idea of stickys....a hotel for a few days.....but I suggest just send the mums  then you and mr dd have christmas on your own

Could you request they come xmas eve and leave the day after boxing day and explain that you are in just too much pain to cope any longer than that. (probably not, but its just a thought)

wish you luck with that one dd.

Suddenly feel very fortunate that my parents have passed away and my hubby's family dislike me so much that they would never dream of spending the " festive " period with us ! We spend our christmas with our 3 kids and their partners and Betsy dog . No one else is ever invited ! Try and find a solution that suits you all , DD , maybe a few outings alone with Mr DD and leave your guests to amuse themselves ! By the way , quick thanks to Sticky for such lovely remarks , ( and yes , I feel very smug and pleased with myself ! ) Jillyb

    Hi DD,

just had to look up what Gitanes were (!) Surely they are one of the last things to give up. So many people put on weight giving them up and you are giving up a lot at the moment.

I have had OA since mid twenties. It affects my hips and knees. I had a THR on the left aged 30 and now have a resurface-replacement on the right - done May 2010.

Julie – I like your idea of packing the mothers off to a hotel. I must say my two came into their own once one had dementia and the other got very forgetful. We just left them together and they happily had the same conversation several times a day.

DD - I’m not going to let this one go. You can’t do this again, especially now when you really need to think of your own needs. By the time my two got like this I had at least one adult son around every Christmas to ease the burden – and no stairs.

Speedy – She can do it. She’s strong enough. Cigarettes are at least as much of an op risk as carrying a little too much weight.

Jillyb1 – you have earned the right to feel ‘smug & pleased with yourself’. Please don’t disappear entirely. We need you.
If at first you don't succeed, then skydiving definitely isn't for you.

Of course I will do it again. I am an only child, I have to. Although Mr DD has a brother come Christmas he might as well be an only child too: BIL is too busy out with friends to bother with us. Mr DD he, bless him, has done the monumental task of cooking Christmas dinner for the past eight years - he likes doing it as it gets him away from the mums! Right, have to go, I have dinner to bring to dish up. christmas well it one of those days that you just have to get through still can not work out why you got them so long.
we got full house and even an hour enough/ we used to alternate christmas dinner and tea with each set of parents but it was to much so when got the chance changed to alternating christmas dinner and boxing day dinner now spend it at home just the 4 of us with lads told if they want to spend it else where they can val

Why do we have them so long? Mr DD's mum only stays a few days as she lives 1.5 miles away. Mine stays longer as we don't see each other that much as she lives 120 miles away and I lack the oooomph to drive that far and stay with her. Her house is a nightmare for me, cluttered and so overcrowded with furniture, you can't walk in a straight line anywhere. Neither does she have a shower - well, she does, but because the bathroom has a sloping ceiling you have to kneel under it plus it's a pathetic trickle of water. We will do Christmas, but mine will be staying for just a week, no longer. She won't like that but, frankly, that bothers me not. I can't do two weeks on the top floor, not any more. Just to make the point that it is all a little too much, I won't put up the big tree. We'll have one of my old three-footers. That'll show 'em! DD

morning dd hope you are quite well today

bet you can't resist your big beautiful tree at christmas. I have only known you one christmas , but I know how much you love your big tree and decorating it. Even if xmas lunch is sandwiches the tree is a must

I spend hours doing ours and it looks nice when finished but never like the ones in the department stores

Sticky....I can just imagine your mums conversation, your comment did make me laugh

    Take care

    Hi DD,

I am a bit late in replying .. but i would have been there in your pocket..

Sorry to hear you are having to wait for your knee op,,, maybe this will make you more determined to loose weight so you can have your op..It seems such a shame you have to wait so long and your age shouldn't really be an issue, you have suffered for long enough already..
Wish you well and we will all be here to support you on your way..
