Dorcas, I'm sorry I'm late but I have been thinking of you very much and I'm so pleased it's gone well. No advice. You know the ropes well enough. I wish you strength and a quick recovery. If at first you don't succeed, then skydiving definitely isn't for you.

HI All - Wonky calling in with an update from Iris.
Had a text just before 5 this evening.
Apparently poor Iris had a bad night, what with the noise of the ward and quite a bit of pain.
However, she has seen the physios who got her up and she now has her exercises to do. If that wasn't enough, the dressings have come off, which have just left a see through barrier dressing.
As you can imagine Iris was whacked after all that, and has slept and feels better for it
I've left the most important info for last tho - she was delighted to be able to tell me that she can now walk using a zimmer frame to the toilet
She wanted to thank you all for being in her pockets, and that all your thoughts and best wishes are very much appreciated.
AND ...... she doesn't yet have a new name for 'him' (the new knee) but is open to suggestions!
Over to you!

Hurrah! No bedpan etc! Result! Clever Iris! Brave Iris too. Knee name? Bendy Flex ('cos it will). DDHave you got the despatches? No, I always walk like this. Eddie Braben0

Fantastic news - thanks Cris and wonky.
onwards and upwards for Iris now I think!
Glad that they managed to wash out the knee too..

Thanks for the update, Wonky. I am wondering how you are feeling today. I do hope you are feeling a tad better about things. Gentle hugs to you. x
Oh yes, I remember that first night, pretty hellish - I can sympathise with you Iris. Clever girl, up and mobile the following day, that is our Iris. No messing about. You feel so much better with your independence back and not having to rely on the nurses for everything. I bet you were tired after the physio session though. I hope you get a better night, tonight.
You are doing really well, you will be looking after the other patients tomorrow, as well as yourself, more than likely.
You take special care,
Love and gentle hugs

Hi and thank you Wonky for the updates.
The wards are really so noisy and with the pain it must have been a very long night for you.
Thank goodness you are now able to use the zimmer, what a relief....
What about Sir Neil??
Lv, I x0 -
like them both! Will pass those suggestions on to Iris tomorrow.
keep them coming
WOnky xxxx

Bendy Flex's initials are BF - best friend. I am sure it will be once it's settled and she is used to it! I too had a text from her last night, I could hear her spirit coming through the words.
Morning dorcas, how goes it today? I hope you had a better night's sleep and that all is well with you - a thought has just struck me - the zimmer allows you to go to the badezimmer (or whatever the German for bathroom is!) DDHave you got the despatches? No, I always walk like this. Eddie Braben0 -
Wonky thanks for doing pigeon duties.... i was worried about letting iris down and your a treasure xxxx
just heard from her...
another rough night with too much ward noise for her to sleep and thankfully now she has been put into a side room and has a bit of pace and quiet.
she got a 70% bend to the new one and said he is working really well.
she also said to thank you all and lave you hugs and love.
sorry about the one handed typing and you all take care cris xxx0 -

DD - you are absolutely word perfect in German I may have failed German 'o' level but I still have the dictionary
Right ..... onto much news today from Iris
Sadly Iris didn't get much sleep again last night, but this wasn't new knee's fault. Rather the nocturnal natterings and clatterings of the ward at fault.
However, the good news is that the staff are really looking after Iris well, and have (through some carefully planned and craftily carried out manoeuvres ) moved Iris into a side room which is very peaceful.
Even more good news - new knee is behaving very well indeed, giving 70 degrees of flexion already     . Iris is now walking easily with 2 sticks! It's still painful, but the chance to rest up will help with that, and all in all it's fantastic to hear such a positive progress report!
I'll pass on your suggestion TOni ..... any more names for new knee?
hugs from IRis and from me ((((()))))

Oh Cris I can understand that kind of putting off
in my case it's putting off shopping and washing
Iris likes the sound of Sir Neil but says she might just have to re-word it. For some reason she prefers the sound of 'Sir Neil-a-lot'
love it!!!

Hi iris your PAs are doing a smashing job , so very pleased you are getting to know your newby knee , a side room will make all the difference for sleep and rest ,the first night is always bad the nurses are always checking things are ok , more well done hugs and ear muffs for a better night xxI know i am a lady ,all life is a journey xx MAY xx0

Dear Iris,
So good that you have been moved to a side room. You will sleep much better tonight - at least you can shut the door!
Yep, great news, walking with two sticks and a good knee bend already. I found it more difficult walking with two sticks than one though. I could never remember which stick (I had crutches) to use when moving which leg. I felt much more at home just with the one. The way you are going you may well soon be down to one stick depending on how strong your other knee is.
I don't think you will be in hospital long - but my little hint is, if you can bear it and especially now that you have a room of your own, stay in as long as you are able. Getting home is a completely new ball game from being in hospital with only yourself to think about and nothing else as it is done for you.
You are doing fantastically well, my lovely,
Love and fluffy hugs

Thank you so much Wonky and Cris for the updates.
Wonky, hope you are on the up again now.
Sending you fluffy, soft hugs,
Elna x
Dear Cris, you should not be on here. Please do n't overdo it today - I am a right one to tell you that but I am concerned that you may undo what good has been done if you do not take it easier.
Sending you over fluffy and soft hugs too,

Thanks for the updates Cris and Wonky
Hi Iris, sorry the nights a bit grim, but glad you have your own room now and do let them take good care of you until you feel ready to get home.
So glad the new knee behaving and hope you are soon bonded.
Leaving gentle hugs ((( )))
love

Hi Iris,
you are proving once again that your are one tough cookie. Can't belief you are just using sticks already and have achieved a 70% bend - that is great news.
Sorry the nights are grim, always seems to me that those who aren't asleep (staff and patients) feel that everyone should be awake with them ... meanies.
Take care, thinking of you,
SpeedyI have had OA since mid twenties. It affects my hips and knees. I had a THR on the left aged 30 and now have a resurface-replacement on the right - done May 2010.0 -
Wonky and cris I want to thankyou too for the updates on Iris even though I am a little behind with my reply.
Just pass on my good wishes please and I hope that tonight is much quieter for her. Lots of love
