I don't remember taking mine off so that solved the problem of putting them on. I left the hospital with them in situ and left well alone, mind you I had knee surgery (not a replacement) so maybe that's a difference? I dunno. Fret ye not, Barbara, where's there's a will there's a way, where there's talc there's hope and where there's Mr B there's a pair of stronger arms and hands. ((((())))) DDHave you got the despatches? No, I always walk like this. Eddie Braben0

Hi Barbara
Hope you've had a lovely break away. Good luck for your operation, I thimk you will be surprised how much better you feel immediately. Its just a case of getting used to how to move about & making sure you rest & sleep and let everyone look after you, as much TLC as possible.
When I had mine done last summer the hospital didnt use the stockings, had electronic leg massage things on which were fab & kept the blood flowing nicely & no swelling at all, they were on for about 2 days I think & I left hospital without having to have stockings, just flight type exercises. As for showering, I had a shower & hairwash at hospital with help & was fine doing it at home with help , had a seat in shower from OH , which was great , I found it exhausting !
Im sure it wont be as bad as you think - hope to read an update soon , once again good luck xx Yvonne0 -
Hi Barbara
Re the TEDS. Put a plastic bag like a sandwich bag over your foot before the TED is applied. Do not try to gather the stocking as you would with tights or normal stockings as this makes it impossible! I found it soothing to my foot and especially the heels if someone rubbed a moisturiser into it before reapplying it. I was told I could take the stocking off for 1 hour per day to allow for washing/drying of the stocking, however they did give me a spare pair too which made it easier.
I will see how my appointment goes for time, but not sure you will be wanting anyone visiting apart form family xx
