Pain increase
Hi everyone!
Not been on for ages because I’ve been ok up until around May that is !!
pain in elbow and hurts when I use thumb weird I did mention to nurse on last telephone review and she said about using the gel because I’m on methotrexate and sulfasalazine no ibruprofen tablets !
No relief ! Now my thumb joint and knuckle is hurting so hurts when trying to open water bottle ect if that makes sense , and this morning the dreaded foot pain is back when I got outta bed .
I have psoriatic arthritis and currently on 15 mg methotrexate and 6 sulfasalazine tabs a day .
should I ring nurse helpline I think I need my meds changing or something any advise appreciated! Hope everyone is ok xxxx

Hi.
I'm so sorry to hear you're having a bad time. I've found similar, unexplainable pains too. If I wear my arthritis compression gloves I get pains in my upper arms and shoulders. I know that's no great help to you, but I sometimes think I'm the only one experiencing certain symptoms and that it's not "normal"
I know it sounds a trivial idea, and it's not exactly cold weather, but have you tried a hot water bottle on your sore areas ?
Can I ask what gel it is you use please ?

By my experince, you are experiencing the nirmal ups and downs of our condition. I wemt through a similar period about 6-8 weeks ago. Now I'm back pain free with no adjustment to medication or specia treatment. Patience is the watchword.

I agree, to an extent.
I also think theres a lot of trial and error involved regarding meds, diet and lifestyle, in our search for less "flares" This should be done with optimism.

Hi @Klootster its anti inflammatory pain gel ! The pain in thumb and knuckle on right hand is a new pain so I’m not sure my current meds are working the elbow pain I have had since April I have done the hot and cold treatment and the colds makes it worse x

Hi. I found cold makes mine worse too. Heat/warmth definately helps though.
Regarding the gel, they do a 5% version and a 10% (ibuprofen). I found the 10% was much better. The lower strength did nothing to help me.

Hi @Klootster I was using max strength!
I’ve rang the nurse home team because I woke up last night in agony and my feet were how they was in the beginning so something isn’t working !
I have a nurse call back on Monday !
Thankyou for advise thou x

You mustn't. Chin up. I know it's bloomin difficult when things are painful though. I can have 5 or 6 "good" days, then a couple of bad days & it's like those "good" days have been completely eradicated from my memory.
Is the pain in your feet in certain areas ? I tend to get it in the joint of my big toes, but occasionally it's like the soft tissue under the sole of my feet is inflamed.
Feel free to message me if you want to talk. Support is a wonderful thing. Unfortunately I get very little in real life, which is why I joined this forum 🙂

Update !
nurse rang me and then she spoke to my rheumatologist they are sending me to get X-ray on elbow and upping my methotrexate from 15mg to 17.5 mg x
she did offer steroids but I have declined I think it’s just a quick fix and not worth it x
