Hello all!

Hi there, I got my diagnosis yesterday for osteoarthritis in the knee. I am 32 and also have sciatica and nerve damage in the spine. My mind is all over the place right now and not sure how to feel about the diagnosis. I’d like to talk to people who know what it’s like and maybe get some information and helpful tips in dealing with it. I suffer from depression and anxiety.

    Hello all,

I'm new here and am looking forward to following the discussions and maybe joining in where appropriate.

i have RA (inactive atm) and osteoarthritis (very active!).

Finding the right pain management would be very welcome.

    Best wishes to everybody.

Hello @Downmyway and welcome to the forum, we hope that you will find support here.

Have you discussed pain management with your GP? It is also worth popping into your local pharmacy to see what over the counter options there are.

    All the best Joanne

    Hi Joanne,

Many thanks for your reply and welcome.

Discussions at my practice re pain management have been ongoing for some time. We have tried a few drugs. Cocodamol 8/500 didn't touch the pain; cocodamol 30/500 (Zapain), recommended by the nurse at my review, who herself has RA & Lupus, and finds Zapain good. It helped, but side effects kicked in, ie., diarrhoea & constipation. When I told the GP (I think she was in a bad mood that morning), she said, aggressively, "I'm referring you for a colonoscopy - change in bowel habits." I said that is a side effect, she wouldn't listen, and took the Zapain off repeat, leaving me without pain relief. My rheumy suggested at a recent appt that I go back to cocodamol 8/500 as needed, but as I've said, they don't do anything for me. I'm having a flare atm, and have this week tried taking 1 Zapain instead of 2. That is helping. and I have plenty more left from a while ago. I think I'll try that for a while and see how I get on with it. If it gives at least some relief, I think I'll try to get Zapain back on my script, and stick to one at a time as needed. I have to be careful because I have other issues - High BP, high cholestorol, Asthma, Epilepsy, and am having tests re Parkinsons. Great, isn't it(?).

I hope that makes sense. It's quite a lot to take in(!). Best wishes, Downmyway.

    Hello @Downmyway

Sorry you had that experience at the Gp😕. It's good that you may have found a way forward with the dosage of co-codamol. I get some relief when I go swimming and use the jacuzzi there as well! Nice to have a day off of the painkillers once a week!

    All the best Joanne
