Running
Morning all. ive had a scan through one or two running threads to get a feel of things. I was only recently diagnosed with arthritis on the outside of my left knee. Its a shock, Im 67, Ive been running well with a 5k pb of 28 mins in Nov, I hill walk a lot tooand even rock climbed Ben Nevis recently
Im waiting for my first in person physio. Id like to run on softer surfaces and have read about taking care and listening to your body etc. My specific question is around how counter intuitive it is to step on the tread mill when my knee is stiff and even feels swollen. Should i go for it despite that and do others
Thank you
Tony

Hello @dimotane and welcome to the Online Community. We are a friendly and supportive group and I hope that will be your experience as well.
Your best advice is likely to come from the Physio as to what you should or shouldn't do, but we do have a lot of discussions about this - take a look at the search results below.
Also you might find the following from our website of interest
and also the following
I hope that you find a solution which works for you, please let us know how you are getting on.
Best wishes

Hi Tony,
I’m in my late 30s and have been a keen runner since I was a kid. I have right hip arthritis with some referred knee pain but I still run, albeit much less than what I used to.
My advice would be to really listen to your body with no respect to your previous plan of when, where or how you were planning to run.
Do what feels right on the day. If you’re sore, don’t run. If you feel ok or good, go for it but don’t push too hard. I have pushed too hard and then chased my kids around the rest of the day, then really paid for it overnight and the next day.
Good luck! B1
