I am new! I am 69 female and previously strong and quite active. Last November I had awful pain in my right hip. I self-diagnosed bursitis (I know - but it's hard to see a doc these days) Doctor was happy to prescribe Naproxen and codeine without seeing me. By January the pain was no better so I asked to see the Doc. I was given an appointment to see a Physio instead. Long story short I've seen 3 physios and given exercises. No blood tests, xray, scan etc but the term OA is now used to describe my condition. At every meeting I have asked for tests to confirm, if possible, that I do have Osteoarthritis but told that they're not necessary. During a rare consultation with a GP about something else she noticed that I was struggling to walk and offerred a steroid injection! This had not been mentioned before. I've asked for one but told that the waiting list is several months. I'm doing the exercises as directed by the physio. Like other people in this community my pain came on quickly and has floored me. I hate taking meds all day every day, I'm still in constant pain, find sleeping very difficult and my mood is very low at times. Now that I've found you perhaps I can get some ideas and support to relieve my pain enough to get strong again. Thank you for listening

Hi, you will find that everyone is very helpful and friendly on here. Regarding pain relief I was given Naproxen and Omeprazole ( for the stomach ) which only worked for a while. I was offered a steroid injection which again was not successful. After doing various physio exercises over time I was eventually referred on for surgery for a THR which was done last year. Like you I was feeling low and just wanted the pain to go. All I can suggest is that you persevere with your doctor for an xray ( I wrote a letter to my doctor and requested a face to face appointment ) to see how far advanced your osteoarthritis is and whether different pain relief may help. Sometimes you have to be assertive to get anything done as symptoms can deteriorate very quickly. I hope this info. helps and that you get the relief you need and please let us know how you get on. Take care.🙂
