Hi, I have recently been diagnosed at the age of 43 with Osteoarthritis and sclerosis in one of my knees. I'm looking forward to finding my way around the forum for help and support. I need to lose weight and I'm currently on a waiting list for physio, I have about another 3mth wait for my first appt!

    Hi @sez123

I am just in remission for RA, its been a bit of a journey. My diet has been a 30 plant point, mediterranean diet type for a few years, around the time I gave up smoking, 6 years ago. I couldnt get my head round having RA because I was taking care of my gut biome and i had made so many healthy changes. Nevertheless I tested positve, was in quite a bit of pain, swollen joints in hands and feet everything. How could this be? it wasnt fair!!! I started MTX last September, taking those pills was extremely scary, but no side effects and 8 months later I am in clinical and biochemical remission. Looking back on it, I believe covid started my RA my diet was not enough to stop it, however i believe it has helped a lot in getting rid of pain quicker. I have not noticed any lack of immune response because of MTX, I didnt get any colds last winter, I am retired but have a good social life so mix quite a lot. I wonder if thats my diet or Ive just been lucky so far. I am now working towards getting off MTX by end of the year. I know I will probably have a relapse at some point, all I can do is take the best care of myself I can and hope its not too bad. I do need to lose weight also, my portion control is way too much lol. I am currently at Slimming World hoping to lose half a stone, not doing too well at the moment

Hi @sez123 nice to meet you.

Losing weight is tricky when you're less mobile, but it can be done many have done it here. Some going to clubs others doing it one their own. It will certainly help your knee now and also the new one when you get it.

Have you read this? It's VA's information:

3 months wait is a lot I'm not impressed at all hope it passes by quickly
