Initial side effects of Amgevita ( Adalimumab)

Hi Everyone,

First post from me. Following failed attempts with DMARDS, I have been started on Amgevita this week. I had high hopes after the research I did but have been struggling with side effects of nausea, dizziness and headache.

I have read through other posts where most people describe no side effects or severe reactions.

I would love to hear if anyone has experienced the same as me and if I just need to get a grip and wait for this to pass, as my body adjusts. Not sure it will be worth it to feel like this every 2 weeks.

    Hello @ShonaB, and welcome to the forum. We hope that you find the space friendly and informative.

    I think that Amgevita is a brand name for Adalimumab.

    The active ingredient in AMGEVITA, adalimumab, is a human monoclonal antibody. Monoclonal antibodies are proteins that attach to a specific target. (from pil.9546.pdf - this is a link to the the patient information sheet about the drug published by www.medicines.org.uk)

    I've edited the title of your post to hopefully attract more attention in case the brand name gets missed by someone who could help, I hope that's okay with you.

    Are you able to pop into your local chemist to speak to the pharmacist about the side effects you are experiencing or maybe contact your GP/rheumy nurse?

    Hi ShonaB

    I’ve been on various biologics over the last year and, up until the latest one, didn’t have many side effects.

    I’m now a month into Abatacept and initially had similar side effects to those you describe. The first dose was the worst but things have lessened with each dose - and 🤞 the drug does seem to be helping.
    I find that drinking a bit more water the day after my injection seems to help.
    It’s definitely worth having a chat about your symptoms with one of the Rheumatology nurses.
