Hi Efleure, Glad you are back home but sorry things were so rough for you. I cannot help much as I am RA but I have noticed with even a minor op the anaesthetic can make you feel sick and dizzy for a good week or more.
    So glad you posted.

I do hope things get better soon for you.

    Thank you so much x

    Hi

Sorry I am late in on this one, but so sorry you have had such a bad time with and after your op. Must be so hard not being able to have the morphine to numb the agony. Do hope the support here has helped a little, it is still very early days for you so hope you are hanging in there and that it gets a little easier each day. I will be thinking of you and send gentle hugs. (((( ))))

    Hi Efleure,

Hope you got a good night and are feeling less sore today? I don't know how you survived without some heavy duty pain control and if I wore hat (hate them  ) I would take it off to you. It really does get better and soon you will be well on the road to recovery and even the crutches will become second nature. Have a decent day. Cris x

    Hi Cheztish,

Welcome to the forum and nice to meet you. x

    You too Efleure,

I only heard horror stories pre-op and was terrified. I cancelled 2 dates as mentally not ready. My OH was getting very angry with me. Then I met a lot of peeps hopping about, demonstrating how wonderful their THR was and it did make me feel a lot better and confident.

all 5 of my children were about the morn of the op and I had to be brave for them but inside I was dying....I didnt feel I had a choice to show my feelings. Luckily all did go wel for me and recovery was fine if a little stressful as stll had to deal with the children.

You take care and keep resting

Hi Efleure, hope you are noticing a gradual improvement as each day passes. Glad you are doing better on the crutches.

    Speedy

Has your GP given you meds for constipation? If not get some from him/pharmacist. This was a problem for me post op due to the iron and codeine and drinking plenty and eating prunes, liquorice etc wasn't enough ....
I have had OA since mid twenties. It affects my hips and knees. I had a THR on the left aged 30 and now have a resurface-replacement on the right - done May 2010.

Hello, I hope things are a little better now for you. I know hospitals are horrible places to be and no normal person likes being a patient, but I wonder, sometimes, if they are too focussed on sending people home quickly, so they can get on with keeping within their targets. Maybe, a few more days in hospital could help deal with firstly, finding the correct pain relief and secondly, giving you that extra chance to rest and get over the surgery before being sent back to the outside world.

I may be wrong, I hate being in hospital, but I know that when I first have come home, I've felt a bit worried and frightened, having no medical team to call on. This is from me, who's fist words after my hystorectomy apparently were 'when can I come home?)
Take care, hope all is going well for you. Lots of love Sue xxxx

Elizabeth, i can relate to all that...my oldest two kept telling me to not be stupid , it's a routine op,etc and got annoyed with me when i said how scared i was, so i know exactly how you must have felt. Sorry you were in that position...but glad to hear you recovery wasn't too bad, but yes, to be honest, i just want to hide away from my youngest two, despite them trying to be so helpful, and being well behaved...i just want to sulk and lick my wounds and don't want to have to care for anyone at the moment..ah well..i'm sure i'll get over it...thanks for your message...x

Join the club. Sleep on a bath towel, wrap your pillow in a bath towel and keep one handy for a midnight rub down. It does help. DD

Hi Speedy, yes he gave me some senno tablet things and some sickly sweet syrup...like you, it's definitely a problem...despite prune juice, etc...and yes, things are better than a few days ago,so that's good...thanks Speedy. x

Hi Sue, thanks for the message..i agree with you...as much as i wanted to get home, i feel sending me home with low blood pressure, anaemia and my pain not under control has made things harder for me to cope with...never mind...feeling less pain today so that's good..thanks again...x
