Hi
Like Marion says......the transfusion really makes a difference to your energy levels....Keep on top of this and keep checking with your doc if you are still anaemic.
I did my injections at breakfast time....just got into a routine.
My neighbour across the road had a THR about a year before me and hated the injections and she said she counted every min. until 4.30pm and she got it over and done with.....Why 4.30? Thats the time they did it in the hospital!!!!!!!! I'm afraid I didnt care what time they did it.....I changed it to what suited me

speedalong wrote:Hi Efleure - I changed my jab time to the morning and did it before getting up so that I had got it over and done with. I did it whilst still in bed as I was more relaxed in that position. We had a heat wave whilst I was wearing my TEDS and it was unbearable at night!

Hi Speedy,
good idea...yes, i'm lucky that at the moment it's not hot...hate to think how you managed when it was...x0 -

How many days post op are you now?
The worst of the operation pain should be over by now, but if you're still anaemic that will make you feel very tired (pity you didn't have a blood transfusion - that really make a difference to my energy levels).
Best wishes

Hello DD,
apart from the having to go to the loo every two hours, and the fumbling and the dropping of the crutches , which seem to develop a life of their own at night, it wasn't bad thanks...hope you had a good night too..x0 -
Hi effleure
I think you are definitely sounding as though things are improving
That is good.
Not even two weeks is it?? You think maybe we expect too much of ourselves??
Keep us up to date wont you?

Hi Toni, things are improving...and yes, you're probably right....i expect too much too quick...hate relying on others, especially when others don't have much patience with me, but at least they're here and helping, and i guess i should be grateful for that...hope you're well today Toni...and thanks...x0 -
Crutch dropping is an art which I am pleased to note you have developed early. It didn't take long for me to learn either - pesky bu***rs have a life of their own sometimes! You are sounding so much more up-beat effleure, well done you. DDHave you got the despatches? No, I always walk like this. Eddie Braben0

Hi efleure
I am so pleased you are seeing and feeling some improvement, you keep on like this, and all that awful pain will soon be a thing of the past.
You take care.

Hi Efleure
Glad to hear you are sounding a bit better .. gosh, at 12 days post-op I was still being waiting on hand and foot by my sister.. it's still very 'early days' for your Efleure - but in another 7 days time you could be quite a bit more improved ..
Those blooming crutches.. If I had a £1 for everytime they fell on the floor I'd be a wealthy woman.. by the way - that doesn't improve I'm afraid! I have dropped my one crutch 4 times today..

Hi Efleure, timing of jab is purely down to ward/doc preferences. With my first op - they did it when they brought round the cocoa - foul! This time round, they did it with the dinner time drugs round ... As long as you do it at approx the same time each day it doesn't matter.
I remember one night I dropped my grabber. I spent 20 mins trying to pick it up with my crutches ... ludicrous!! Thought I'd have to go downstairs to get other grabber to pick it up!
SpeedyI have had OA since mid twenties. It affects my hips and knees. I had a THR on the left aged 30 and now have a resurface-replacement on the right - done May 2010.0 -
Hello effleure, I hope you had a reasonably good night and that things are not too bad this morning. DDHave you got the despatches? No, I always walk like this. Eddie Braben0

Speedy....about your grabber.....I have a telescopic magnet.....out of my hubbys shed....goodness knows whats in there LOL....So I put a large dog clip on my grabber and then used the magnet to pick it up.....stuck to the dog clip but not to the grabber itself
We have to become inventive...dont we LOL

Hello to all today..DD the night was the usual, up and down to the loo, fumble , drop crutches, swear quietly not to wake the girls, etc...but not bad thanks...had my 51 staples taken out today by a nurse who, not being mean, was sulky, silent, and frankly grubby. She kept huffing and puffing about how many staples she had to get out, and kept fiddling about with her back as if it was all too much for her and her blooming mobile kept going off, and she made me lie on my side, and when i said i was told not to yet, and shouldn't i at least have a cushion between my knees, she just shrugged...got to say, it made my eyes water and i was very pleased when she eventually left. Was feeling a bit more cheerful before all that...i'm shocked how pathetic i am at the moment...a bad look, a slightly negative comment, and i'm tearful... thanks for the tip re the grabby thing...will hunt for a big clip etc...i feel very sorry for the lady in the flat beneath me at the moment...i'm dropping everything, a lot....and those blooming crutches make a horrid noise on my laminate floor...oh well, pain's better at least... managed to clean the kitchen and bathroom floor with a very inventive mop arrangement....hope everyone on here is having a good day...x0

I hated having my staples out but at least my nurse was kind and apologetic. It makes a big difference.

Hello effleure, I hope you had some sleep last night. Don't over-do things today, you still need to be kind to yourself. DDHave you got the despatches? No, I always walk like this. Eddie Braben0

Thanks DD....nights seem to be getting worse...but from what i've read on here, a lot of people suffer at night after the op for a while, so it's normal i guess....hope you're not in too much pain today..xx0 -
Hi Efleure,
how does the wound feel now minus the staples?
The skin had started to grow over some of mine - and the nurse had to nick the skin to get them out - those ones HURT! So had to have a dressing on for a bit. The nurse said to take it off when I was ready.
In the first few weeks I was rather obsessed by sleep or rather my lack of it ... it did start to improve though bit by bit. Time your meds right and don't do any physio too close to bedtime.

Hi how are doing? I am glad you've had your staples out. I had a big tummy op some time ago and I do know that having the staples out was horrible! I should have guessed, when the nurse brought me pain relief tablets half an hour before she took the staples out!
Each day is another on the road to full recovery take it in little bit size pieces, it works for me as looking at the whold process can be a bit daunting, so take it as it comes.
Lots of get well wishes and love Sue0 -
Hi
Just checking up on you, hope things are improving for you, like you say most people say that the nights get worse before they get better.
Every day is a day nearer you being mobile and in less pain.
