I have a woman next to me who can't stand wihout a nurse, I was trying to stop her standing without a nurse, now she calls interfering, I am not going to help anyone now, sorry if sounds a bit down but I am at the moment love Jaspercatxxxx

I'm not surprised you are a little down, you have been stuck in that awful place for weeks and weeks and weeks. One does meet some utter horrors in hospital, and their horror is made worse by the fact that they also are poorly. At least the day countdown is now in single figures, and if you are finally given some crutches tomorrow (how has it taken a hospital so long to find a pair for you?) you may be able to bring that day forward a notch or two by proving you can do stuff. I will keep my fingers crossed that some scaffold poles (as bertyboy so beautifully puts it!) come your way, you can start clattering about and clatter your way out. Now that's a thought: why wait? (DD has her devil hat on). Thinking of you. DD

hi Jasper, sorry you are feeling a bit down. Not surprised as you've been there a very long time! Not long before you get home but I suppose you've got to get used to the crutches first.
    take care.

    Hi
At least you have a date to aim for......do your best to manage the crutches in front of the physio
I remember with a smashedf ankle....they would send me home but I couldnt put any weight on one leg for a few weeks. They gave me a zimmer frame and told me to hop.....but the stairs...had to master those with an underarm crutch, hold the bannister, and hop. I clenched my teeth and thought I will do it I will do it.,.....and then I'll do it my own way when I get home.....They were happy and let me home.
I spent the next month or so going up and downstairs on my bum.....much safer and easier. I know its not the same...but you can practice at home if they think you are good enough on them to get out.
    No wonder you feel down.
    Love

Morning jaspercat, fingers are still crossed you get the crutches today - if not I have a spare pair somewhere I can send! They will probably get there quicker too! Crutches are not difficult to use, try not to hunch your shoulders, just use them for balance and stability. Remember to take your arms out of them before you sit - it is very easy to break one's arms if you sit whilst still attached to them - that is what I was told when I first began using them and I always disentangle before sitting. Oh Kim, I had a lady who kept trying to pull all her plastic tubes out of her arms. I stayed awake to keep an eye on her. She was old and frail but wanted to go home!
I also told a lady not to cross her legs as she had broken her ankle and she never forgave me! I was making small talk cos she never joined in with our fun and laughter so tried to include her but it back fired!

Hope you are okay and will be able to return home soon.

    Hi Kim :D

I hope you get those crutches today and can start planning to get home. :!:

It's not easy sharing a hospital room with complete strangers and it's hard when your attempts to support people is kinda thrown back at you..... pain and frustration can do strange things to normally nice folks!

keep your chin up flower... we're all rooting for you!
got you some flowers to cheer you...

    Hi Kim,

Tis hard when you see someone dong that and ring for the nurse only to have it thrown back at you. Trouble is like Iris said pain, frustration, fears all of it do change people and maybe she will be ok again today?

I would have done what you did for what its worth, you can't sit and watch someone about to fall and maybe hurt them selves.

Hey you only got 7 days to the release thing, don't worry abut her over that bed concentrate on getting your self weight bearing and out.

Leaving you a huge cuppa and a (((((( )))))) Cris xx

    Hi Jaspercat,
Hope the crutches come very soon - are you tall or short? Could you not loan a wheelchair in the meantime, so that you are a bit more independent? Sorry the other in mates aren't all pleasant.

I have had OA since mid twenties. It affects my hips and knees. I had a THR on the left aged 30 and now have a resurface-replacement on the right - done May 2010.

Morning jaspercat, how goes things today? Knowing the NHS hotel way of doing things you will have been woken at 4, pilled at 4.45 then breakfasted like a queen at 5am. Or perhaps they will be slightly more civilised and do all of that starting at 5!

I hope the things turn up today - that was a ludicrous excuse for them not arriving yesterday - my standard crutches cover heights ranging from 5.00 - 6.00 so at least you could have been making a start on the wobbling. I will, however, re-cross my aching digits and hope they turn up today.

Who blacked out? You or Malcolm? Sorry to appear dense but it wasn't too clear. I hope whoever it was is better now! Thinking of you. DD

    Hi Kim

I hope you are Ok after that blackout  :?

You're having a rough time of it... but the end is in sight! even if you found the move to another room disturbing if it's part of their discharge process then maybe it's a good thing albeit in disguise?

I really hope the physios turn up today!!

    Oh Jasper,

Why on earth does it take so long to get the right crutches? There are many of us who are verticaly challenged
Years ago at our local hospitals they used to move you down the ward as you got nearer the top you knew that you were on your way home. So maybe that is why they moved you.
Not long now and a proper cuppa and a home made meal will be within your grasp :D

Hi Jaspercat, how ridiculous that they are out of stock on crutches. I'm 5'2 too and I had bog standard crutches - which were fine for me and could have been adjusted for someone shorter or taller than me.

Get your visitors to walk past the plaster room a few times - discarded ones are often left/stored there. They can always plead ignorance to how they obtained them!

Sorry you are struggling with the food - are you veggie?
