Oh Chris
My dear Chris
Yo are having an awful time of it aren't you? What you say makes total sense and when you look at it form your angle you are totally b*ggered
The government are stopping the little bit of financial support yo actually GOT from them.
You are working your butt off for next to nothing anyway and your health might stop you even doing that
and on top of that (as if it isn't enough) your Sister is poorly and not nearby
I would feel shift too if I were you
Now I read on and see you didnt get the DLA forms done when we last spoke. I understand your resaons, but now that you are worse I think you should get them done and speak to him about them in November
Chris I WISH I lived nearer so i could hug you in real life but for now...
and a chirrup from Daisy

Goodness
Thank you so much for all the kindness and hugs here. Elna, Cris, Annie, Ange, Alarka, Rose, DD, Lynn, Barbara, Sally, Ironic, Wonky, Sharmaine, Maria, Berty and Toni. Especially when some of you are battling yourselves there.
They must have been winging there way here as I have slept for England and not long been awake. My second day off I always feel vaguely human but dread the treadmill all starting again on Sunday. My one day at the bookshop which of course is now so busy with people buying for Christmas! I have been offered more hours there but the job is almost as physical some days and such an unhappy place with the pressure to sell at any cost. Not only that but I would have to worry about travel costs and the pay is lower than the factory so not really a viable alternative.
I promise to those who gently gave me a nudge that I will be honest with the Consultant next time I am so much more prepared this time after reading everyones elses helpful posts on their THR's. I see him 24th Nov. I did like him and he understood my need to bolt out the door last time from the look on my face. I was just so shocked when he spelt out how bad things were.
He was already aware of my work concerns as I had explained it all to the lovely physio I saw who referred me to him. My prob is I don't really do public tears anymore however I am feeling! I think sometimes bursting into tears is the best thing to do but experience has taught me differently.
Think you asked about the new staff Ironic, and yes the people from the other factory are thankfully being treated fairly. Two of the packing staff are definately coming to us, have been given travel costs for a year and I think if I read the clues correctly are on protected wages so will be earning more than us. I'm looking forward to them coming as they are nearer my age and are actually English!! so it will balance up the numbers again.
With previous support and much needed shoves from many of you here I did do the CAB visits a while ago and saw the disabled advisor at the job centre but as you say Ange they really need to walk two moons in my boots to understand what the actual problems are the rules on paper are one thing but... well the factory would laugh in the face of a workplace assesment. The welfare cuts have spooked me and no doubt many other deserving people here but I will apply for DLA once I am on any list for an op. and definatley won't be resigning from either job. I have at least learned that. Sorry I am rambling on again. Will shut up for now but will keep in touch.
Thanks for all the support and more important the understanding here. I really did feel 'shift' Toni with it all yesterday and just wish I had some practical answers but the hugs and sleep do make a big difference. Might even get a bit of Deadmau on now Cris.
bless you all and hugs right back at you.
love

There you go, Chris, it is amazing what a little TLC and rest does for one, isn't it? Enjoy your day tomorrow and try not to let work on Sunday marr it one jot.
Love and hugs

You don't have to do the tears bit - words work just as well. Tell him the whole truth, based on a bad day: never describe a good day 'cos a) there aren't enough of them and b) they will think that everything is OK. Always base your answers on the roughest times, it does help them to understand what one is up against and treat accordingly. I am so glad you had a good amount of sleep last night, that does make a difference! Thinking of you. DD
PS Deadmau hasn't been off since I discovered it, thanks to skezier. I play I Remember at least three times to help me doze off!Have you got the despatches? No, I always walk like this. Eddie Braben0 -
Glad you are feeling better with yourself, Chris. Yep, some sleep and some offloading make all the difference.
Enjoy what is left of your weekend; try not to let the work days bother you when you aren't there.

Glad to hear you've got an appointment coming up. Make a list of how you feel as well as symptoms and then he will know. You deserve more support, emotional and financial. If it's any use to you, my mother got DLA before she had any of her operations for osteoarthritis and retained it after as, sadly for her, she still had problems. But at least she had a bit of money to help. That is what it is there for.
lots of love

Hi Chris,
sorry to have missed your post and see all that has been worrying you
glad to read today that you have a 'plan'.
take care flower and keep posting so's we can support you . you know we are here for you

Hi Chris,
I'm just adding some (((( )))) and words of support.
You must be worried about your poor sister, hopefully now she will get things sorted.
Definitely do those DLA forms - preferably with the help of CAB, several folks have posted on here recently with good news re DLA whilst awaiting and having hip ops, this would take some of the pressure off financially.
DO be honest with the consultant - remember there is always a waiting list ... so by the time your name comes up - you will be even more ready for the op.
After your op, you can involve Access to work to help find ways to make your job more suitable for you and in the future look for something else. The recession cannot last for ever ...
SpeedyI have had OA since mid twenties. It affects my hips and knees. I had a THR on the left aged 30 and now have a resurface-replacement on the right - done May 2010.0 -
Hi Chris -just read your post and sending you loads of hugs (((((((((((((((((((((HUGS)))))))))))))))))))))))) to help you. cant really say anything to help other than you can still apply for DLA now - get CAB to help you - they will know how to fill in the form and use the right words!! If you dont get it then appeal - and by then you prob will be near the op time???
hope you are feeling better today??
take care

Morning chris7, I hope you had a reasonable night and that things do not appear quite so bleak this morning. If they do, however, come and tell us, 'cos that always helps. DDHave you got the despatches? No, I always walk like this. Eddie Braben0

Hi Chris,
Fingers crossed that you have had another good night’s sleep and you are feeling the benefits. The new staff that will be coming sound promising and you might get some useful insights from them. Being able to have a natter does help the day go quicker.
Oh and sending another load of hugs your way.

Hi Chris,
I have no practical advice for you apart from agreeing with the others about being honest with your consultant ...even if you're afraid of public tears, you must tell him. I hope your sister goes on alright with her second op.
If I'm not too late here's a ......... comforting rub  from me
It is good to see you around again.

Morning all, (oops! it is afternoon now) and thanks to you all, Joan, Elna, DD, Annie, Gemz, Sally, Iris, Speedy, Louise, Jules, Ironic and Legs.
The hugs and good wishes and sleep have helped so much and today is a good day. Just when I thought I might have to eek out the provisions until pay day I receive a letter from my energy supplier refunding an overpayment from 2007
Gemz nice to meet you they are such a supportive bunch here I honestly don't know how I would have coped without them at times.
Thanks to you all for giving me another nudge re the DLA. I was sort of thinking I should wait until I am on the scary list but thanks Speedy, Sally, Louise, DD and others. I think I am finally convinced and if I can find the energy I will go back to CAB next Thursday with the forms.
I know that even when I had had the first THR on the worst left hip he will be after the right one too!! so it may be some time before I can be properly mobile again. Can't believe I have just typed that :? Thanks for giving me the courage to do.
Hope you are all having as good a weekend as the slings and arrows allow and bless you for the hugs.
Chris who has found her again today.0 -
Things generally get worse before they get better - yep, it's me, your cheery mate DD! I know it will be a rough time for you when you get the op, but hell hun, it ain't exactly palin sailing for you now, is it? Right, right, I'll shut up.
I am pleased about the refund - do they add interest too? Probably not! At least it's something for the coffers, so treat yourself to something lovely - a girl needs cheering from time to time. If you can drag yourself to the CAB next week that can only be a good thing - remember to answer based on your worst days, 'cos that is when you need the most assistance. I use my DLA to pay for my cleaner and massage therapist etc etc. I cannot manage without them.
I hope you have a better weekend: remember we are here, so come and say hello to us - we do miss you. DDHave you got the despatches? No, I always walk like this. Eddie Braben0 -
Hi Chris
you sound more [positive oddly! that is good and the trip to CAB is a good idea Very proud of you I is
You are right you will not be leaping around after then ops will you - at least not straight away
It IS good to see you

Hello Chris,
I've just seen your thread & want to add my gentle (((hugs))). Don't panic about losing tax credits yet - this is still only at proposal stage & even if the change did happen you would still be eligible for help. When is your consultant appointment? Hopefully very soon - please, please, please don't be frightened of having THR - it really does give a new lease of life to most people. Your company are obliged by law to pay SSP during your recovery - I'm hoping our Iris may be along soon to clarify your rights (she so brilliant at the law stuff!)
I was a single mum for long time too before I met my OH - I worked all the way through with help of the credits etc so know what a real struggle is too. My osteo was really setting in badly in last two years of that time & we lived in an first floor flat, no lift. Some nights I would just have to drag myself up stairs on my bum I was in such pain.
The THR will take that grinding pain away, believe me, hon.
Hope you having a lovely evening resting

Hi Chris
so pleased to hear you are feeling better in yourself and are thinking more positively about discussing options with your consultant & applying for DLA.
take care and keep posting!
Iris xx
ps.. I've posted you this link to Blackburn Council's Benefits advice section for anyone applying for DLA. Even if you get CAB to complete the form filling it might be beneficial to read through this step by step guide first.

Late as usual.
I can only hope if you go ahead with the hip op you will be able to face these work problems a bit better. The pain will be much less. I didn't realise how much better my hip would be afterwards and with hindsight I suffered (and the children suffered) far too long.
However I understand getting the time off and the understanding from the boss is not so easy.
So take each small step one at a time. Get some much needed rest today first. I worried so much. I hated everybody for moaning at me that I had to get it done. I hated the threats from OH...if you don't get it done..... I put the op off twice for silly reasons(holiday and inconvient time for the children) but I wasn't mentally ready. But with hindsight I so wish I had known what an improvement to my life it would make.
We got a Gold in the Gymnastics today..so proud. Plus a silver and a bronze. You have got to come to the Olympics with me Chris!
