Val's Cafe

Hi Kath glad it is all done and dusted for another year. Don't think the cafe will be closed. There's usually someone drunk in the corner! Its not moaning Kath its offloading to friends and a sympathetic ear. I'm sure we all repeat our news at times.
I have wrapped more presents and been wrestling with the sellotape. We have a love-hate relationship.
Unfortunately the scales have broken and I need them to keep an eye on my weight. I've just had chocolate and Ameretto cheesecake and a box of after 8's has been opened!
Barbara are you staying at home for Christmas? I remembered to get my meds and contact lenses sorted before hand.
I tried to look for the international space station tonight but couldn't see it but found this web page where it shows its current position directly above the planet so I'll make sure I watch its approach tomorrow.
Hope everyone is having a good time. It'll be time to open the alcohol store soon.....that will drag the punters in.

Joan, hope you and Sue are ready for Christmas. have a lovely time.
Kath, does your surgery have a website? Might give you opening times. Doesn't help with actually making appointments though. You'll have had your mammogram today. I'm sure we could all do without it right before Christmas. I'm the same with dvds. Never watch them as I always think I can watch them later. Have a wonderful Christmas with your family.
Barbara, sounds like a right carry on with the insurance. Hope it doesn't take too long to sort. Glad your OH has a hire van so he can keep going. My mam's family live in Glasgow so when I heard, I contacted my cousins. None of them were in the area at the time, thank goodness. One cousin told me her daughter and friends had planned on going to the Clutha pub the night the helicopter crashed in to it but they changed their minds at the last minute and went somewhere else. it's bad enough at any time but always seems so much worse at Xmas.
Elizabeth, hope you have a lovely Christmas and enjoy having the girls there to play the board games. Don't worry too much about chocolates and goodies over Xmas. You can get back on track later. I've often watched the ISS go past. You need a clear night and it is only visible for between 2 and 4 minutes usually.
Forgot to tell you all. S*insb*rys are doing half price on selected joints. I'm popping in tomorrow to see if they have any finger, toe, knee or hip joints before they sell out.Christine0 -

That sounds like a good idea Barbara, getting you son to come and cook. The space station passed over about 5.20 and will again just before 7pm. You should be able to see it anywhere as long as it's not cloudy and there isn't too much light pollution. Only visible for a couple of minutes as it travels at 7500 miles per hour. Can you imagine that? Happy birthday to your OH. Hope you do find the books.
Happy Christmas to you too Joan. And to Sue and your little dogs.
Hope everyone has a lovely day tomorrow. Lots of rest and eating. :presents:Christine0 -

Happy birthday to your OH Barbara. That nap is well deserved.
I just had a look for the ISS but didn't see anything fast moving and bright apart from planes. I'm determined to see it at some point!
I still have 3 presents to wrap but I'm worn out! All parcels arrived on time.
Dan got up early to keep an eye on Santa's journey, I can hear him giggling now and again.
Its a bit late for GD's friend to travel home to London. She must love the buzz of your house-some family get together's can be a bit boring.
We are staying home for a change.
Have a lovely Christmas Toady. I just missed you.

Merry Christmas ladies...we don't seem to attract any males to this thread. Don't know what they are missing do they?
I have opened my jewelry gift from OH, a new beautiful bracelet as my other one is full of charms. It is rose gold. But I've saved the other presents as Dan has not yet awoken -after watching Santa round the clock I'm not surprised! I have iven him a shake but e is just so tired. Plenty of time left so no worries.
thank you for finding te cellar key Toni.

Barbara, wonder why your GD's friend didn't want to go home. She obviously enjoys being at yours. Still not found the books? Maybe they will do for next year when you do find them. Sounds as if you've had a great day. No rush to clean up. Tomorrow will do.
Glad you got everything done Toady. Mango has had plenty of hugs. Hope you had a good day.
Elizabeth, hope you managed to get everything done. I loved following Santa's journey so I'm sure Dan did. Oh a rose gold bracelet. How lovely. Yes, no rush to get up on Christmas Day. Dan has all day to open his presents.
Looks like Toni is propped up in the corner and there is no cooking sherry left.
Hope you have had a good day Barbara and you enjoyed your dinner.
Thank you for cooking Christmas dinner Mig.
Hope Joan and Sue have had a very lovely day.
Good to see you Coco. Hope your day has been a good one.Christine0 -

Hello everyone, sounds as though you all had a good Christmas, as did I. :hoho:
Quite a lot of empties in here today, but I managed to find a full bottle of cooking sherry - which has now {HIC} half gone
Son loved his Cad***y's model cars and huge bar of chocolate, DIL and her mum liked their presents too. We had a lovely mug each with a Robin on, a very smart desk calendar and an IOU son printed out with a promise to take us to Butterley when the weather improves, to see and have a ride on the steam trains. Looking forward to that.
Blood test on Tuesday 30th December, full breast check on January 28th, rheumy appointment on February 9th, respiratory appointment at the end of February, with more blood tests between. I appear to have a full calendar already. :xmas_lol:
So now, looking forward to New Year, hoping 2015 is a better year for all of us.
Think I'll help myself to some of mig's leftovers, and a large bowl of trifle. Thank you mig, and whoever provided the trifle. I got a bit sticky while eating and drinking under the influence, so will just have a quick shower, no peeking."Women and cats will do as they please, and men and dogs should relax and get used to the idea." Don't worry about drinking all the cooking sherry Toni. Kath has found another bottle although there's not much in it. :xmas_eek: I'm sure the trifles are a lot smaller now. Just don't last like they used to.
I hope the same for you Joan.
Kath, I think I'll have to try the cooking sherry although it doesn't seem to last very long in here. :xmas_eek: Sounds as if you all got some lovely presents. The new year hasn't started yet and you are getting booked up already. Oooh, had to close my eyes while typing this. Hope you remembered to take a towel in with you.
Mig, none of the turkey goes to waste. You make very good use of it. Hope you have a great weekend with your GC.
Barbara, I usually have a B*ileys at Xmas but haven't yet. Glad it hasn't affected you. Hope you've been able to rest up today after Xmas lunch. Even all the clearing up is quite a chore. Snow? They said it will be with us today but haven't seen it. A couple of people said it's on the hills but haven't ventured out far enough to see them.
Visited dad today. He said he enjoyed Xmas dinner yesterday. My sister and her 3 daughters joined him in the care home.
On Xmas Day afternoon I took Mango for a walk and let him off his lead in the park. He sniffed for a few minutes then turned round and took off like a whippet towards home. I went as fast as I could after him. A young couple stopped and asked if I was ok and they drove off to look for him. He was sitting at the gate when I got home. Scared the life out of me as he had to cross 3 roads and I could hardly walk after shuffle running after him. We're both ok today but I daren't let him off the lead again.
I got some lovely presents - a necklace, a pair of pjs and an Ozzie clock off my daughter and a photo of my GC in a frame and some face cream off my son. My boss gave me a huge box. When I opened it, it was full of their gluten-free products - different pastas and sauces and Italian snacks. Some people might think a box of food isn't a good present but I find it difficult to find much in the shops round here. Mind you, they could have an ulterior motive. Maybe they are trying to get me to buy their food but it is more expensive than most places.Christine0 -
Good covering of snow here in nottm, can't tell the difference between road and pavement and it's still coming down. Mig0
