Hello everybody, hope all are well and had a good weekend. Lovely sunny day, but I fear it's the calm before the storm.
Christine, our halogen heater has three heat settings. Each setting uses 400 watts, so the lower the setting, the cheaper it is. This link is to a .pdf file which compares different types of electric heaters:
http://www.cse.org.uk/downloads/file/advice_leaflet_room_heaters.pdf
Halogen are supposed to be the cheapest, using 19p an hour for a 1.2 kw. So that is how much it would cost us to have all three bars (highest heat setting) on for 1 hour. But we find it is warm enough just on the lowest setting, which will obviously be much cheaper. Ours also 'oscillates' to spread the heat around, and has a safety cut out should it fall or get knocked over. OK, advert over.
Bought myself some exercise stretch bands from A**os yesterday, and another bracelet. The bands come in 3 strengths, I'm using the easiest one first. I'll let you know if they help me lose weight. :? Don't think it will help if I have some chocolate bickies every time I use them. Rather defeating the object methinks....."Women and cats will do as they please, and men and dogs should relax and get used to the idea." Robert A Heinlein

Afternoon all
Cold but sunny here..
Joan my son is doing fine thanks for asking..he just has to go back every 6 months..or earlier if it comes back..hes 43 today.. :xmas_eek:
Kath thanks for the link I am interested in these heaters rather than warm the whole house..I have an oil free standing radiator in my room that turns itself off..but have heard quite a few people say the halogen ones are good..I am another trying to diet..I keep saying we will start when all the chocs have gone..think I might have to9give them away... :xmas_sad: good luck with the bands...good for muscle tone..
Just been shopping with OH and met some old friends we haven't seen for years ...its has though it was meant to be.. :xmas_smile:Love

Joan, so you've always been an early riser. Wish I was so I could get more things done. The dogs will be good company for you both. Hope you get some help with your painful legs on Friday.
Barbara, what a mystery with the books. Maybe they'll do for next year now. :xmas_lol: I'm planning on eating healthier once all the chocs and Xmas cake etc have gone. Problem is I've bought so much. Chocs are gone but still got other stuff. I did go in to T*sc* today and stocked up on fish and there were some delicious sounding soups. I should really make my own but these will be handy for when I can't be bothered to cook. Soups are supposed to fill you up even better than a proper meal. What luck bumping in to your friends. Happy birthday to your son.
Kath, the heaters do sound good. Worth it if you only need to heat one or two rooms. I've got one of those bands somewhere in the house. I really should look it out and actually use it. :xmas_lol:Christine0 -
Morning all
Middle GD just gone off to school ..gosh its so hard getting up at 7these days..think I toss and turn and then seem to go into a deep sleep early morn..
Christine these chocs not a clue what makes me to buy so many...I have selection boxes here that I have forgotten to give out..or is it a ploy ..
it seems we are in for bad weather come Friday..100 mile an hour winds..I hope not..
Think we will get one of these halogen heaters just for the room our GDs sleep in...it save warming every room when its not needed...they are always cold and I am usually hot..sorry Im waffling ..that's tiredness for you.hope you all doing okish...not seen toady or Coco...

My post went again...kind of fed up with it doing that....just as i'm about to post.
was saying I took my humira injection after a long break, even though I am coughing terribly.
I got some tasks done this morning including phoning about my blue badge. they are waiting on a bit of paper, which OH took with him last time but they told him they didn't need it!
Christine I'm glad you got the opportunity to regain your place in the queue.People can be so dum when out shopping.
Joan hope the weather holds out for your Friday appointment as it is about to get worse.
Barbara I do hope you haven't thrown the books out. Have you looked in the wardrobe?
Okay all is well, managed a long sleep in the day yesterday after I did a mega ironing session.
Take care all

Hello Elizabeth, Barbara, Christine, Joan, mig, coco, Toni, and anyone else who pops in.
Hooray, my replacement bus pass arrived this morning. Exactly one week after I applied for it.
Elizabeth, how annoying when you keep losing your posts. :x
Christine, I'm glad you found the information on heaters useful. If I wait until we've had all our chocs before starting a diet, it will be about 2020 and I'll be as big as a house. Just the size of a small bungalow at the moment.Especially considering we've had breakfast out two days this week. A full English both times.
Getting on ok with the stretch bands. I can manage half squats while using them. If I tried that without I'd fall over.
Make sure you all batten down the hatches for the next few days, those winds will be mighty powerful. Feel sorry for anyone who lives in Scotland, they're supposed to get 100 mph winds."Women and cats will do as they please, and men and dogs should relax and get used to the idea." Robert A Heinlein

Hello all
Late today we went to get our youngest son somethings in the sale that he liked he is 40 in March...I know it seems away off but I am sick of paying full whack for things..then they become half price...our Dil and son bought her mum a hamper for Christmas..suppose to be half price and now its £50 cheaper .its horrible ...sorry rant over but we have just saved around £40 on 2 T shirts..
Elizabeth have you seen my wardrobe...no to be honest I have had everything out..nothing..the only place we haven't looked is in the kitchen cupboards..the corner ones there is a gap in them and its possible the books are down there...glad to see you got a sleep and it was needed I hate ironing
Kath its scary 100 miles an hour winds...glad to see you have your new bus pass..I have been looking at the link you gave us on the heaters..just one question have any of the bulbs gone yet on yours..or are they called elements
Joan hope you and Sue are doing ok..when does Sue get to put some weight on that leg,, it will be scary at first for her..
Not seen Toni around I hope her and Lucy are doing ok...
and Toady is feeling a bit better now Christmas is out the way ..I know I am
And Coco is resting or did she say there was more travailing on the cards
its been a lovely day here today..the calm before the storm they say...Love

Barbara, Just checked another website. They are called elements or bulbs, but all ours are still working. You can get replacements though. Although we don't have them on often, only when the weather is really raw. Haven't needed them at all today. You're like us, we have to check everything out before committing ourselves.
Haven't always been like that though, learned the hard way when investing in Fr****w set top boxes. We've never had one that is totally reliable yet. :x

Thanks Kath
we would just use it now and then in one of the bedrooms that is very cold..save heating the whole house ..now free view boxes..we were the same, but now we have our Tal*Tal*box so if that goes they replace it..my mobile and home phone internet are with them..
right Im off to lo9ok at bulbs or elements I don't mind if we can change them but it say some people cant open the heater to do this..hope that itching has calmed down for youLove

Hi all
well I have and I haven't recovered from xmas if you know what I mean.. yes I feel better now its over but I'm paying for the (very small amount of  ) overdoing it involved. Saw the friend I was expecting so that's it for commitments & leftover xmas stuff, now it's a matter of rounding up what people I've promised New Year letters.. so it goes on.. :? Have spent a lot of time on the internet one way & another lately and I'm beginning to think my head does not like it.. maybe partly the new laptop.. honestly, what can you do & get away with it. Not much it seems. Anyhoo, long story short I am lying very low and trying to be good as from past experience I say I will have a quiet New Year bit & then go straight back to doing too much without a break.
I see Kath has been itching & sore, oh dearbarbara's Beanos are still missing possibly behind the cupboards  and applerose is queue-barging.
And people are trying to build up their Bailey's tolerance one sip at a time.
Hope TK has got on ok after the humira despite the coughing. Sue has to have an x-ray on the 23rd I see, that will soon come round now - and joan has an early appt tomorrow, hope it goes well.
Bloods for me next week so hoping for a stable result.
New Year's resolutions in a nutshell: stop fussing over everything, become more decisive, focus, and get rid of more stuff before bringing anything else into the house. Hmm. I sense failure in the offing.
Love & hot buttered teacakes to all & will pop in as & when. xxx
ps Kath I love the sig.0 -
Afternoon...
Toady I love to read your post they always make me laugh even though they are meant to..its good to get commitments out the way..this is how I feel..
the comp doesn't suit my neck I'm afraid...I do try and sit has straight as possible but you always end up slightly bent over..well I do.. good new years resolutions..I have decided to be more assertive...and no more hoarding..and it goes on..hope you can mange not to overdo things..never easy
No Christine..I hope she is ok and just got no news..neither have i come to that..
I keep checking my bulbs in the pots to see if there heads are showing..a bit early I no but forever the optimist...hope everyone's doing ok..xxxxxxLove

Hi everyone. Thank you for noticing I wasn't here. I was sort of. I've been popping in and reading your posts then getting sidetracked then feeling so tired I've gone to bed and forgot to post. Can't believe it's been a few days. Thought it was only yesterday I didn't post.
Joan, I hope the meds work for you.
Toni, it was great to read that Lucy is doing so well now and making plans.
Airwave, I have a juicer but haven't used it in a while. It's in the cupboard. Must get it back out. I prefer to eat the whole fruit but now and again I'm not in the mood so it would be good for those times.
Barbara, Have you tried putting something under your computer screen to raise it up a bit? Might help you to sit more straight. It is difficult though when you're concentrating on things other than how you sit.
Toady, I don't make New Year resolutions as I never used to keep them. I just tell myself I'm going to do things all year round but if I can't be bothered, then they don't get done anyway.
Kath, I'm the same. I spend a lot of time checking things out before I buy them. Can't afford to spend on things that end up being no good. Glad your bus pass has arrived.
Elizabeth, how annoying they said the didn't need the paper when they actually did. Well done on getting the ironing done and having a good sleep.
Not far from where I live is a cemetery where there is a tiny chapel which not many people know about. It hasn't been looked after for many years and the council have been using it to store things in. Someone had posted photos of it and found out that it doesn't belong to the council, it belongs to the people who live here. A friend of my sister's organised a meeting and has said she wants to get the chapel cleaned and repaired and have it open for people to use as a chapel. It is multi-religious so anyone can use it. Someone has put forward quite a large sum of money, someone paint, someone else is organising a survey to be done and there is an electrician who wants to help to get electricity to it. At a later date, everyone wants to clean up the cemetery itself as it has become very overgrown and used as a dumping ground. I think it's wonderful that the community are coming together to do this.
This morning the sky was almost black and the wind was terrible. A telegraph pole went down round the corner. The sun came out a couple of hours ago so I decided to take Mango out. We got halfway round the circle we do when it turned dark again. By the time we'd gone a little further, the wind started howling and the snow came down heavily and horizontally so we were both white by the time we got home. Half an hour later, the snow stopped and the sun came out again. It must have been waiting for us.Christine0 -
Hello everybody, hope all are well and having a reasonably good weekend in spite of the stormy weather and winds. Although we haven't had much rain here today, because it was forecast we didn't go out.
Christine, what a wonderful community spirit where you live. I hope the project is successful.
Is there bread and butter pudding? I'll have some of that if Airwave has saved some. With custard if there is any. Good job cafe food hasn't any calories because I've put back 3lbs. :x
I've had to call out the plumber. Our toilet cistern in the bathroom (we have one downstairs too) is leaking from the inlet pipe. Think the washer has perished in it. We have to isolate it overnight, turn the screw back in the morning so we can flush it, then isolate it again so it doesn't leak through the day. Good job we do have 2 loos. They aren't coming to fix it until 20th January. :? At least with it being social housing we won't have to pay."Women and cats will do as they please, and men and dogs should relax and get used to the idea." Robert A Heinlein

Christine!!!
What a lovely, lovely thing for everyone to do. Sounds like anyone can go there religious or not/of any faith so inclusive tooMakes me feel quite heartened.
So long as you are well that's all that matters and yes we do know when one of ours is AWOL
I am pleased Mango got his walk even if you both got snowed on!!
KathT We had lots of rain - lashing rain and I avoided going out too although my new car desperately needs a hooverPoor Dudley
I am very glad you won't have to pay for the plumber they are soooo expensive! I wanted one of our girls to go into plumbing, but none of them were too keen.
Barbara our h*max is a freeview, but you can get them as freesat yes. It is very similar to the big companies then. You can access all the 'players' like ITVplayer etc and there are films to. Record and also go back a week to see stuff you missed. Not everything is available like that, but a lot is....saves you ploughing through the whole series on the players to find the one episode you missed!
The fruit is such good value at A*di isn't it? Especially for the juicer. I still add less veg than I'm supposed to but better some than none eh?
Joan. It sounds as though you are having a rough time of it for the Dr to increase your oramorph again((())) to you. You take care and look after yourself. I hope Sue is doing ok?

Morning all..very cold here..but it is January.. :P
Do you need a laugh..I have been following the space station and got an email it was coming over got the compass on my phone...put night shot on my camera..and stood outside for 15 mins at 7.45PM...freezing may I add..came in to check email only to find it was AM and not pm.... :oops:my OH and GD though it was hilarious I didnt....
Christine..don't you worry about posting if you don't feel like it...how lovely of your sister ..and the community to get together to help get the chapel back to what it once was...its so sad to let them fall down..we have a pair in our cemetery..and they are in a state..why they don't look after them or even ask for volunteers..but like the one you have they are used for storing stuff and the roofs are going..glad you got back safe with Mango even though you were both white..we had hailstone with the wind...
Toni we will look into the humax...am getting fed up of TT..but its the only one we can get a good net signal here and mobile..
Kath..yes thank goodness you have 2 toilets... not good when it breaks ..glad to see it will be mended free..and I should think so..hope the itching as calmed..
one GD here ...and she is going home later and our eldest GD is coming ..hopefully I will get some jobs done..dont like to ask every time I see them ....the wind has dropped a little..it was awful again last night ..hope that everyone's safe and warm.....xxxxxx

Kath, I've been the same here today. The wind kept blowing and it got dark so I decided not to risk getting caught again in bad weather but the rain didn't come. I did want to go in to town. I had to do that a few weeks ago with my washing machine. That was bad enough but it's worse if it's upstairs. A leak there can cause havoc if you can't turn it off. They do take such a long time with social housing, don't they? My sister keeps pestering them till they come out.
Toni, plumbing is the career to be in. They are never short of work and, as you say, charge a fortune. I like carrots in juice form but haven't tried any other veg.
Barbara, isn't it funny that we always say it's cold in the middle of winter.Oops, the space station can be seen again tomorrow morning around 7.30. Think I might be awake but won't be up. There were a few people saying the restoration of the chapel needs to be done by the book. No good people just turning up. Health and safety has to be considered and a charity set up. And we needed to get permission from the council. Most said that as it belongs to the people, not the council, we should be able to just get on with it. I'm sure your GDs don't mind doing a few jobs for you when they are there.
We had a telegraph pole blown down round the corner so the bus couldn't get through. Not bad in the grand scale of things. Some have been without electricity. As I decided not to go out because the weather was threatening to get worse, I managed to put all the Xmas decorations in the loft. Phew. Glad that's done for another year. Done my ironing. Finished my jigsaw last night. I was thinking of doing another one but it takes up the table where I normally have my photos and I want them back out again.
Hope everyone has had a good weekend.Christine0 -
