Well girls, GP had answers for me. Not necessarily answers I wanted, but it could be worse. The pain in my hip and spine is nothing to do with my RA, it's Osteoarthritis! With cysts! She put me on Tramadol and is referring me to someone (can't remember the name of the clinic) but it's at my health centre, to be assessed for THR and possible physio. Partly scared, partly relieved. So of those who have already had this done, I have questions:

How long did you have to wait for surgery?
How long does the op take?
How much pain did you get afterwards?
How long were you in hospital for?

I'm fully expecting everyone to give me different answers. If there's any other information you can give me, I would be really grateful.

Joan, I'm glad you have some results, not sure whether it's good or not. Hope you and Sue have a good Christmas. :presents: :areindeer:

Barbara, I'm glad you managed to get your hair done. The photos of Paris sound lovely. :candycane:

Christine, you are good getting your cleaning done before Christmas. Hope the hot chocolate was good.

Elizabeth, thank you for thinking of me amid all your own pain and suffering. :presents:

Slomo, I hope we've saved enough Christmas grub because I've given Emily this week off. I think she's earned it. :santa2:

Toni, I hope Lucy's MRI was clear.

    :carolers:

A Very Merry Christmas to all, and a Happy New Year. Gentle hugs to all. xxx

In answer to your questions Kath I was told 12 weeks wait for a THR but it was 6 months before I went ahead. i needed to be in the right frame of mind. Actually recovery is quick and the pain is gone so it is a good op to have.

I was in hospital for 7 days but it can be 4. I had to have a transfusion so needed extra rest.

For me the op was one hour and I was awake all through. I listened to music on my ipod and I wasn't aware of anything. To be honest pain was minimal just found it odd trying to move my leg again but they advise getting the circulation going. I will definitely be having a THR this year and hoping to match it in with a school holiday as I couldn't hope for my OH to help them get ready for school and all that entails.

However I didn't have any cysts and don't know if they will make a difference to time and pain and recovery.

Barbara OH will be cooking the Christmas dinner I hope. I'll give him a hand but I get in his way.

I have wrapped some presents :areindeer:
I'm waiting for parcels to arrive and just having a final look online for presents. I've thought of a couple of great gifts now...

Hi Joan. You must have a high pain threshold if you had a broken hip for awhile.
I've not got a THR date yet, but I can phone when the pain gets too much. You get used to hobbling around.

I expect Toni is busy Barbara. Hopefully she'll pop in before Christmas. Christine may be working after all.

Barbara, I bet Paris looks wonderful. I'm sure the girls will be fine. I love listening to carol singers. Don't think we have ever had any round here but we are having carols in the High Street tomorrow evening.

Joan, are those results what you were expecting? Hope they were no worse than you thought.

Kath, I think it's better to know. At least you can make decisions. I definitely think Emily should be allowed some time off. I'm sure there is plenty for us to be going on with.

Elizabeth, I think you are right about getting used to hobbling about and the pain. How lovely to have your OH to cook the Xmas dinner.

Mig, that sounds wonderful. Hope you have an amazing time. Merry Christmas and best wishes for the coming year to you too.

Well would you believe it. I got a phone call from my boss's mum asking me to bring the milk in as they are still away. I don't usually work now on Wednesdays so they're not expecting me till Thursday now. Trying to decide whether to take the day off as usual tomorrow or phone and ask if I should go in to make up for being off on Xmas Day. :xmas_rolleyes:

A parcel arrived for me. Must be from my daughter for me. Hmmm, wonder what it is. She told me not to open it yet. :presents:

Evening everyone so sorry to be AWOL :xmas_redface:

I hope you are all well atm

Yesterday we went to clinic and got the results of Lucy's MRI (2 days before).

She has avascular necrosis of her lt hip (maybe shoulder too), due to the high doses of steroids and 3 of her chemos.

Apparently high risk for getting it are girls aged 16-20 :xmas_rolleyes:

I did suspect this might be the case as she was walking wonky - not much fuss from Lucy though bless her.

Referral to physio and ortho. Off steroids. Likelihood she will need surgery in the short-ish future :( Not ATM though due to still having chemo.

Will copy and paste this to the frogmorton thread.

    Love to you all

Barbara, glad the girls are home ok. Hope they had a great time. I normally take off from Xmas Eve till just after New Year but I used up all my holidays to go to Australia so don't even have enough even for Xmas Day. My own fault really but I'm hoping my boss will say I can be off and he'll pay me. I like to have my cake and eat it. Did you have lunch with your niece? I have, in the past, had a few Xmas dinners but not this year.

Joan, I hope you and Sue are looking forward to Christmas.

Toni, don't worry about not popping in. We all know you can't always. Not good that Lucy will need surgery but she is so strong not complaining. No need to apologise. We know you have your down days. (((hugs)))

Finished wrapping presents today and bought all the food I need. Couldn't find cranberry sauce or custard either in T*sc* yesterday or S*insb*rys today. Not the end of the world if I don't get any.

My Daughter arrived very late and we sat up talking until way past midnight. Yesterday we had a surprise visit from my other Daughter and we all had a lovely time playing silly games.

This morning I had to get up at 8 as Daniel wanted to see Santa begin his journey around the world. So he had a 2 hour countdown which he announced every minute!

OH was ill yesterday so spent the whole day in bed. We have o turkey or goose yet and one more pressie to buy (the one I suddenly remembered would make a nice gift for my Son). I'm not sure he'll be successful as it requires a bit of effort to source.

Daughter no.3 is happy to wait until after Christmas for her phone.

Sorry about the news Toni. Can't be easy for you both. :|

You are lucky getting decent carol singers at your door Barbara.

    Have a lovely time Mig.

Joan I had a couple of terrible nights with my hip and really struggled to get up and down stairs.

I do hope you get xmas day off Applerose. I remember you used up your holidays so maybe he's making you work hard as he was a bit miffed wasn't he?

I have to sign off and do some housework and I'm still on parcel duty for the OH. He has 3 but none are Xmas gifts.

    Speak soon

I managed to get some cranberry sauce today. Also bought some mango chutney. Can't for the life of me remember what I wanted it for. A young man asked an assistant in S*insb*rys if they had any chestnuts and he was directed to the other end of the isle. I followed him and asked him if he was looking for chestnuts too. He did a bit of searching and found 3 string bags of them at the back of the shelf so he gave me one.

My boss and his wife both asked me if I had seen their Xmas present to me. I did notice this morning that they had put the card with my name on right on top so I couldn't miss it. I didn't want to take it before because the card was inside and I only saw it because I was being nosy. :presents: Anyway, my boss told me what it was. :xmas_rolleyes: They run their own business selling Italian foods and they put together their gluten free things for me. As for the holidays, my boss gave me this week's wages and said he'd deducted a day as he guessed I wouldn't be working tomorrow then he asked what, if anything I was working next week. I know now I won't get paid if I don't work.

Barbara, happy birthday to your OH. I'm glad you got to see your niece and your godson. It does sound like a busy time for your GDs. I'm sure they'll enjoy it though. Oooh, mulled wine. Don't mind if I do.

Elizabeth, how lovely to spend some quality time with your daughters. Hope Daniel has enjoyed tracking Santa.

Joan, I have been putting tomato sauce on a lot of my meals recently. My bro-in-law insists on having the right sauce with each meat but I think just have what you want.

Hope everyone has the best Christmas with not too much pain and lots of lovely goodies. xxx
