Poem of the day
Broken By Kathleen
I take tablets
every day,
do they work?
I couldn't say.
I've bits that hurt
and bits that don't,
bits that move
and bits that won't!
Sore bits.
spreading in a patch.
Itchy bits,
that I MUST scratch.
Muscles, joints, bones and skin,
on the outside and within.
Lips and tongue,
teeth and jaw,
eyes and nostrils,
all are sore.
Maybe pills are just a token.
They can't mend me
I'm too broken!"Women and cats will do as they please, and men and dogs should relax and get used to the idea." Robert A Heinlein

The poem is on a different post as I had Windows updates and needed a restart. So I posted it, restarted, then started a new post.
Joan, What was the blood test for? And you've had snow! We're in the dark and it's only just coming to 2 O' clock - light on already.
Toni, Guess what, it's chuckin it darn mi duck. Not quite as bad as Venice though. I'm pleased that Sleek enjoyed the poem, and I chose the Turmeric cauli because it's good for those with Arthur, although I haven't tested that.
Aidan, a floating candle, I could do with that just above my laptop so I can see the keyboard. I hope dad's X-ray went well. Glazed Blueberry Granola, smashing mi duck.
Yes, I read that Jack Savoretti's mum persuaded him to put his poems to music - mum was right.
My Braltas was to replace Spiriva. It's probably cheaper. I love Dundee cake plastered with best butter.
Sending hugs and prayers to all absentees to show they're not forgotten.(((((((((()))))))))) t4591
VEGAN SAUSAGE CASSEROLE WITH BANGERS & BORLOTTI BEANS
Ingredients
2 tbsp olive or rapeseed oil
6 vegan sausages
1 red onion
8 baby carrots (eg. chantenay)
1 tsp smoked paprika
1 tsp garlic purée / ready-chopped garlic
400 g tin borlotti beans (drained and rinsed)
250 g passata
2 tbsp gravy granules (check they are vegan)
handful baby spinach
Instructions
Heat the oil in a large, lidded casserole dish of frying pan, and fry the sausages on a medium heat until golden brown all over. Peel and slice the red onion and add to the pan, then trim the baby carrots and slice them lengthways into halves or quarters depending on their size. Add to the pan and cook for 3-4 minutes.
When the onion has softened, add the garlic and smoked paprika to the pan and stir well. Drain and rinse the borlotti beans and add to the pan, followed by the passata, 250ml water and the gravy granules. Bring to the boil then reduce to a medium heat and cook for 7-8 minutes until the sauce has thickened and the carrots are just cooked through. Taste and add a little salt or black pepper if required.
Roughly chop the spinach and stir through the sauce just a minute before the end of cooking time, and serve immediately with a baked potato, rice or mash.

Afternoon to all t4591 t4591 No rain here, for a change - bit it is SO dark already - lights on - we are always lit up like a Christmas tree
Hi Toni - yes, it would have been a Beaver moon, the first full one in November - well spotted it was very yellowy orange, when it was appearing through the trees...........quite eerie  Wanted to take a picture, but it would look like a dot on a blackboard
Now you have rain - I see there are plenty of weather warnings out for torrential rain, South, Midlands, East Scotland - Hope everyone is ok and stays safe.
B has just gone to collect Dad, for his chest x ray - Sleek was going over under the cloak, she likes our little hospital Very kwyiat, so she can nosy about. Dad was a little brighter this morning, but he has been drinking more and eating a bit better, which will help a lot.
You are welcome to the granola, lots of slow release carbs
The puskins do have the most amazing time, a lot of it we never know about - they only tell, what we need to know.............. t115006 t115006
Sleek is on the look out for land cats - Mother will be there, to give withering looks and much hissing  :? Mother's candles are wonderful, I want one, but she said NO
Both of them have no heating, oh my, there was me, thinking I was confused, turns out I was   I hope Charley's is fixed and Aunt Kari's will be sorted asap. Mrs Darcey is wise to be wearing her winter outfits and getting under her blankets.
Hope the eye tests went ok, yep, that will be money, here today, gone tomorrow
Good that Charley is feeling better after the tooth extraction - ((()))
It is blowing a very cold and lazy wind here, Mother has taken herself to her bed, well, she was there, she might well be over at Sleeks ickle house, they nip here an there without us knowing.
Hi Joan and Sue - hope your bloods are ok Joan. Hope you are all nice and warm now, back at home.
Snowing - oh my, turn the heating up a notch............I did see snow had fallen on Exmoor  Take extra care if you have to go out.......(((())))
Hi Kath - my pc is waiting to restart, with more updates being installed
How true is your poem, 100% true. t4591 t4591
Drs prescribe them to help ease our pains
We take them like sweets, in hope of great gains
They do what they can, but we wish they did more
We rattle and jangle like jelly on springs
our aches and our pains become "one of those things"
Then I ran out of words
We all need one of Mothers candles. It it like night time here too. I have all the lights on I am not one for sitting in the gloom.
You have rain too.......hope it doesn't flood anywhere ? Venice had epic flooding and super high tides, must be so frightening.
Mum was indeed right, with her Son Jack. Great songs.
Briatus is likely cheaper than spiriva, I will see what Sr puts me on when I get to speak to her.
Glad you loved the Dundee cake, of course with butter, lashings of it.
I will add some more sparkles and love and prayers to yours, for all our friends on the forum and in our lives too. t4591
The vegan sausage casserole looks amazing. I will ask B to slice some crusty bread for us Ta mi duck.
Hope any ouchies are not too troublesome, ((((()))))
Hi Barbara - hope you and yours are doing ok. How is Gdad and your Brother. I trust Gdad is starting to feel a bit better. It will take time, his body has had a huge shock, with his operation and it needs time to recover and heal properly.
Personally, I think patients are sent home, far too soon, in many cases. But the pressure for beds, is huge, on a national scale. :?
Is your Brothers chest improving, with his AB's. Lots of love and hugs to all (((()))) t4591 How did the wedding planning go - hark at me, nosy Bubbles
Hi Carol - and it is nearly Friday already - who knows where the days and weeks vanish too

Hi Barbara - Don't worry about being missing t4591 t4591
I hope Niamh had a nice time at yours. Then you had a call about Gdad
One of the bypass grafts might have occluded, (blocked) which might well need a stent putting in.
It could be a blood clot, although Gdad will be on blood thinning meds.
It could be breathing problems. Difficult to say, but they are the main risk factors of the surgery.
Whatever the problem is I pray he is ok and he is better very soon. t4591 t115006 ((((())))) Keep us updated, you will know more tomorrow.
I hope the Town Hall is open for marriages, while the building work is being done.
You Brother and GF seem to have things organised and it will be lovely, just a few of you to share their special day t115006 t115006
I am glad the AB's are doing their thing, but his bloods need to be ok before they will go ahead with another round of chemo. I hope that they will say yes, after another blood check up today. t4591
I am sure you are more than tired. ((((())))) for you all, plus some magic sparkles from Mother and Sleekness - straight from the sky
Dad is up and down, we keep encouraging him to eat and to drink plenty, so so important. He fancied fish after his x ray, so Bill did a detour into town and got him one from the chippy. Anything that he fancies.
We just take each day as it comes, trying to preempt everything, is pretty impossible and you end up tying your mind in knots  :?
Heck yes, I can have cake. My HBalC Blood test was perfect, the metformin is doing exactly what it should do. Telling me not to have cake would be a big no no
You are MORE than welcome to the goodies, the hugs, love and prayers. We all need them - keeps us going t4591 t115006 t115006
Hi Toni - how went the visit to the opticians? Many ££ for you both I would imagine :? :?
The sleepy spell worked at siesta time. It was wild and windy out, which I find quite soothing to doze off to. :animal_busy: Not so, when you nip to the back door and it nearly blows you out of your slippers
Any signs of heating being fixed, for Autnie Kari and Charley too :? :?
Now, what day were we on, Choir practice, that's right. I saw the Sisters go past in their Winnebago    I hope they were dressed appropriately
Hi Carol - Lunch then coffee today How is the knitting progressing.
Have you had more luck in finding some Christmas presents, I know your last foray was not very successful. Only five weeks or so and it will be here. Goodness  :?
It is not our fav time of year, to be honest

Morning everyone. At least it's not raining today
Morning Aidan the Ark was out yesterday if anyone needed it Kari and me went to the opticians in it  Eyes tested out ok nothing new for either if us except Kari wanted some middle range specs for her computer. Both had new specs mine just readers but two pairs for the price of one was a bargain
Those muffins were as light as a feather ta v much
Oh I am glad to hear Dad fancied fish and chips after his X-ray. He copes with it all doesn't he bless him ((())) Sleek loves that little hospital and had a very quick swish around to take it all in. Then sat on Dad's knee :animal_busy:
Right well Charley's heating is fixed now, but Kari's plumber recommended she have the manufacturer out which she'd paid £300 for in advance and isn't until the 20th  She's coping ok with 4 little heaters and one electric blanket plus Mrs D's electric blanket too!!!
The Sisters were dressed quite conservatively to be fair, but they parked that 'darn' Winnebago over 5 (yes 5!) car park spaces  We are now doing Christmas songs so enjoying that
Enjoy the GC today (is Dad going too or some couple time?) and good luck with the new crutches
The moon was amazing, but as you say they never look good in apic. Loved those sparkles. Sleek and Tosca are still honing their sleepy spells for you - they reckon you are th trik ee ist kus tom ar!
Liked your little ditty!!
That cheesecake! soooo boozy it needed the cream didn't it?! Oooh I've gone all squiffy!!
They used to give the kids an injection to boost their bloods if they wouldn't come up so if they don't sort soon your bro can expect that little joy Barbara!!
Lucy always refused as well as the thinning blood jab!
Wedding getting sorted that is some lovely news at such a hard time at least t4591
I do hope all is well with GDad, but at least it explains his slower recovery than you'd expect. ((())) t115006
Kath I have heard turmeric is good for Arthritis and do eat a fair bit of it hence all the marathons I run
Chucked it down for us all day too I mean really badly a LOT like Venice!!
That sausage casserole is lovely ta perfect for this chilly winter weather. t111055
That's another poem for Versus Arthritis magazine there Kath made me smile
Joan/Sue I hope Joan's blood test was just a check up one and nothing new? I hope all is well. Charley now has heating Kari is waiting until 20th

Poem of the day
Cattle Song by Kathleen (hope it doesn't offend any veggies/vegans.
We don't have a name - just an ear tag,
as we stand here chewing the cud.
Where once there grew clover and buttercup
is now just a big patch of mud.
We flick our tails to the melody
of a swarm of buzzing black flies
and not one of us bats an eyelid
if another keels over and dies.
For we know where we are headed,
so don't look too close at me mate,
for one day you must search your conscience
as I might end up on your plate.
Morning Joan, Not too bad considering. I have my blankie over my legs to keep warm. I was going to say no rain here, but it's just gone as black as night and I think it will pour down any minute. I hope you, Sue and the doggies are keeping warm and dry and the ouchies are staying away. I spend too many pennies too and even have to wear Tena Lady in case I don't make it. :? Yes, I've been told that anyone with a suppressed immune system can be prone to oral thrush and other fungal infections.
Toni, are you talking about the Filgastrim jab? I had to have it every flipping time. % days (I think) after each chemo session and it gave me agony in my hips and thighs as the bloods began to improve. I was in hospital (on the lovely teenage cancer ward). There was no room for me on the adult wards so I was there for 24 hours. The lovely nurse kept bringing me Ibuprofen and Paracetamol. He was rather like our dear Matron, caring and attentive. I'm glad Charley now has heating, but poor Kari - £300 squid.
Oh the sun's come back out. m0150 m0150 m0150 m0150
Aidan oooo Catch a falling star and put it in your pocket, save it for a rainy day. Well there's been plenty of them en't they duck. Lovely picture. How lovely that dad asked for fish, and I know you will be plyig him with tea and coffee too.
Mmmm, Vanilla Muffins I'll get some hot custard for those - bliss.
Barbara, I'm glad we have Holly too, and the girls are so sweet, although Esme didn't want to go to school in the rain even though her granddad drove her there. Keeping your brother in my thoughts and hope he can have the chemo. t4591 t4591 t4591Drs prescribe them to help ease our pains

Afternoon to one and all t4591 t4591
Chilly wind, but dry, unlike a lot of the country :? :? hope everyone is staying safe and dry t4591
Hi Toni - Sleek did mention that the Ark was floating well, after much reigns  :? (mother said that is the wrong Rain!!! )
Glad the optician visit was not too painful on the debit cards. Two for one is just fine We like bargains
Glad you liked the muffins, almost scone like, but feather weight, perfect with half a pound of butter
We found the fish, from the chippy, in the fridge, so he had only nibbled a little bit   He does just go along with whatever appointments we say are happening. He trusts us to sort everything out.
Charley't heating is fixed, so they will be snug, as will Rosie :animal_busy: :animal_busy:
Just Auntie Kari's to sort, another five days to wait. Let's hope it is done and dusted then, after paying out already
So glad the Sisters were suitably understated, for choir practice. Oh that Winnebago is huge - have you seen inside
Not exactly slumming it are they
They enjoyed the Christmas songs too
Dad came to the GC with us, took a bit of encouragement and chivvying along. He ate quite a bit of toast and marmalade, more than we expected. I had a veggie breakfast and a slither of chocolate orange cake
He was done in by the time we headed home, first to the hospital. You have to self refer now, to the Physio, filling in this form, with all your problems etc, etc etc................Ran out of paper
I said, I only want to replace my crutches, not have a total body assessment   have to go back on Monday at 1pm.  Anyway, we will go along with all the form filling and faffing.
A little shopping and via the surgery for my tramadol (much needed, cannot run out of that over a week end) :? :?
Washing done, mothers tray done, beds done, fussing, done. Poor B is worn out. I did help as much as I could. He is standing at the craft fair at the Village Hall on Sunday, so hopefully that goes well. I will take piccies Neighbour will take me down, late morning. I will be on medication duties at dads, first thing.
The girls are pleased with the progress of the sleepy spell - apparently it is already strong enough to settle an elephant  oooh they are rude them two. Yes, Mother, I am a tricky customer and no denying.
My little ditty, lol, I just had a go, turned out ok. The cheesecake was laced, I went all wobbly.
Right back again...........there is always something needing me to potter.
Hi Joan and Sue - do you take the Lansoprazole for acid reflux, or to stop medication burning your stomach?
I hope your bloods are ok, doing your liver function tests I assume. We all have lots of issues - but, we carry on, we are all nothing if not determined t4591 t4591
Thank you for the hugs, you are super kind and thoughtful t4591 t4591
Glad the snow didn't last long, I am sure we are going to get a fair bit of white weather, I can feel it in my bones.
Sertraline is not usually a cause of thrush, although it can cause a dry mouth, which, in turn, can end up with a fungal infection. Usually it is a side effect of chemotherapy or antibiotics etc
Hi Kath - thank you for your poem, it is very true. Not offended at all, I would have it displayed on every meat counter up and down the country
Glad you are keeping warm mi duck, it was dark here by half three. Dark clouds over Pendle :? :? means she's in a mood.
Why thank you, I try to be caring and attentive, just as I did at the hospitals. t4591 t4591
Plenty of rainy days for those falling stars t115006 t115006 We keep a close eye on what Dad is eating, checking every time B goes round on foot, or when we go round in the car. He is drinking a bit better, but it takes some hammering home.
How is your Dad doing? I hope he is ok and Anita will be doing a stirling job. Any sight of a care package ?
Oooo custard with those muffins, perfect, I will join you
Glad you liked my little ditty
Now then, that Caulie sumac salad looks gorgeous, ta muchly XX
Hi Barbara - Thoughts and prayers continue. How is Gdad, I am sure they are doing all they can to help. If he needs a stent, they would not go through his radial artery, not with all that bruising. Femoral maybe. Depending what is wrong. Bless him.

It was very busy today, we arrived in good time though. People were queuing for tables by the time we left   I could not rush my chocolate orange cake, at all.
I will be asking the Physio's for some of those flexi feet for my crutches - such things had not been invented when Florence and I were nursing
They look really good and you can get some that grip on icy surfaces too. Perfect for reducing ninny walking
Thank you for the info on that one t4591 They will probably say, they are not available on the NHS now.
I hope Niamh is enjoying her sleepover along with Daddy - was there a roast dinner, with extra Yorkshire puds
Just reading about the fire in the University halls of residence in Bolton, looks all ablaze - they say everyone was evacuated, thank goodness. t4591
Hi Toni - How is everyone - not too waterlogged I hope. Charley will be nice and warm, Rosie came over to see Mother and Sleek, said it was very cosy at home. I am sure they all nipped off somewhere, through the gate, but Mother is saying nothing :? :? said I was dreeemyng  :? :?

Poem of the day
Cry Of Wolves (never heard this one before)
© Shelagh Bullman
January 2011
Rulers of the night, the wilderness is your home,
Man in his ignorance won't leave you alone,
Strong together you hunt for survival,
Man and his gun your only rival.
Mistress of the moon, shadows dancing on Northern skies,
I hear your torment and mournful cries,
Running, hunting, surviving, dying,
From frozen mountain tops I hear your crying.
Great warriors of the night,
I wish you strength and stamina,
Courage in your plight.
You are the heart of the wilderness,
Cool air and mountain snow,
You are part of this land but man is your foe.
So once again the dark night becomes black,
And howling is heard as wolves gather and pack,
With spirit and fight, stamina and charm,
Let no man destroy you, you mean them no harm.
Brave warriors of the night,
In the wilderness be,
Wise and cunning hunters,
Forever be free.
Let your howling join the earth,
May you hunt with no fear,
Let the mountains echo out,
The howl of wolves that fills the mountain air.

Joan, thank you for the hugs for dad, I'll ring him tomorrow to see how he is. It's very dull here, and cold and drizzly.
Aidan, They're all swollen mi duck, the Derwent, Erewash, Soar and Trent. We are at a confluence of the Trent, soar and Derwent along with the Erewash which goes through Toton and the Erewash Canal which runs right through the middle of Long Eaton. We are in a flood plain, and West Park isn't a park at the moment, it's a large lake. Including the cricket pitch, the football pitch, the bowling green, tennis courts and children's play area. Fancy a swim mi duck? Doesn't the Enchanted Forest look dramatic. and thank you for the Potato and Tofu Hash Browns.
Barbara, I'm sorry your brother couldn't have his chemo. That might make him feel anxious but hopefully he should be able to have it soon. (((())))

It is infuriating, to say the least - hope all is calm again now - (((((()))))) t4591 t4591 and breathe
Hi Joan and Sue - omeprazole / lanzoprazole, is good for acid reflux and is protective on the stomach lining. I take loads of ranitidine, well, three a day, for the same reasons   We will all start rattling soon
I remember you said you had had an endoscope, which are not the most pleasant of things (((((())))))
thank you for the hugs and well wishes for us all. You are both so kind t4591 t4591
Kath that is a lovely poem and so very true, the poor wolves are nearly hunted to extinction in many places. Trophy hunters, catch them in traps, then shoot them at point blank range - how SICK is that, makes me so angry and sad
Wolves survived in Scotland, into the 1700's, before being wiped out by many Royal hunting parties. We also had bears, but they were all gone 1500 years ago.
Hope dad is ok, sending him extra ((())). Now, I see I need my bathing costume to come swim in your park t111055 t111055
I guessed the Trent would be up high and the Soar is often in flood, Ratcliffe on Soar (ratties, as my Mother called it), used to flood all the time, Dad was ferried to the Church, in a boat on several occasions
You are more than welcome to the tatties and the choccy orange cake Keep taking the pills. There must be a long poem somewhere about us taking shed loads of medicines. One to think of there mi duck t4591 t4591
I know I wrote a little ditty, but it was only a few lines.
Hoping any ouchies are as eased as they can be, extra sparkles to you both t115006 t115006 How is Holly, keeping the shopping topped up for you, bless her
Mac Cheese, ooooo one of my favourites, can I have two helpings please, ta loads XXXXXX
Hi Barbara - hope you are all ok, Niamh will have had a little lie in, with Daddy, maybe a bacon butty for breakfast. She likes her food and is not a fuss pot eater, like a lot of kiddies can be.
Hope Gdad is doing ok and your Brother is having a rest, from all the hospital to and fro. I am sure he will be fine next week, for his chemo. t4591 t4591 t4591
Love and special thoughts to all

Hello friends
I've calmed down now Sleek and Tua and wedding pics helped then Kari came over for dinner. We had vegan meatballs in pomodiro sauce with butternut squash spaghetti!
Kath we tried the vegan mac n cheese too it was YUM!
What a lovely poem...so powerful.
Joan I'm ok annoying isn't it when you loose a post. My own fault though
Aidan, Kari and me want to buy up almost every item on the stall! The bracelets and the springy necklaces especially.
Wait till you see the wedding pics. My suite of jewellery is in many of them!
B has to do really really well tomorrow with all those fabulous creations. Once you've done the early drugs round I expect you'll be over to drum up trade and support your husband.
Do let us know how it goes.
Photos tomorrow of the wedding I hope guys!
Love

Hi to all t4591 t4591
Hi Barbara - you did remember the goodies and glad you likes the stars We love sparkle t115006 t115006
I was reading how fast that fire spread, of course they are likening it to Grenfell Tower, but I would not have thought it had the same dangerous cladding - Very lucky that everyone was evacuated, possessions can be replaced, but not lives. I am sure there will be a big investigation into the cause etc.
Glad you like the stall, it does look lovely, even better in real life. As you say, it is the season for buying gifts and sparkles, so I hope he does well too he has worked hard, making everything.
So Niamh had a complaint to the Kitchen. Bigger bacon sandwiches next time Well, she says it like it is, that's for sure
Gdad is home again. Having had the blockage sorted - I wonder what it was - I am being a nosy nurse, have to know the far end of the field and back
It will take a fair while to recover. I remember B's Mum, took a while for her to get back into the swing of things, but, he will be ok t115006 t115006 t4591 t4591
I hope you enjoyed your restful evening, all quiet and peaceful
You have a Range opening up, very close to home - I would want to be in there every day
Hi Toni - good to hear that you are more calm. Sleek said Mummy was karmer :?
Wedding pictures, wonderful, looking forward to seeing the blushing Bride and your good selves, with your jewellery on show too
Dinner sounded lovely. HI Auntie Kari Vegan meatballs mmmmm Better than meaty ones
So you and Kari want to buy half the stall The necklaces are super easy on easy off, ideal if clasps are a struggle.
Yes, Matron is on morning drug round, will take me a while to get round there, with several stops. Then I will go down with M towards lunchtime, to assist and smile at potential customers
Much support indeed.
I did hear one of the ladies we know, talking about how much she has been baking to sell in the cafe area - My ears were up like radars - CAKE, right, say no more. Bacon butties for the stall holders and endless cups of T / coffee.
I will let you know how it goes. B will pack up about 3, as we need to be back for Dads afternoon check and pills.
Sleek was over at siesta time, they had one of the shopping channels on, goodness knows what they were ordering.  They did manage to knock me out, eventually..............takes some doing, even with two grand wizards.
Will have to be up at silly o clock, not that I am going anywhere at 8 ish. I will be pottering slowly and drinking coffee, to bring me round.
Hi to everyone in and about - sending lots of ((((())))) to all
Time to shine
I had better be moving. Leaving lots of love and sparkles to all t4591 t115006 Take care XXXXX Aidan
Baked Blueberry and Cream Cheese French Toast
XX Aidan (still known as Bubbles).0 -
Lovely Aidan that's a breakfast and a half! Just needs a tiny bit more cream....soon remedied!
You'll need plenty today and blimey ought to zonk out at siesta time with or without two Grand Wizards!
They have plans to use your place while you are supporting B this afternoon with M at the craft fayre Shopping it is - I was hoping just Christmas presents :? maybe???? Mrs D is coming and Rosie - not the kits I think it's their presents they are buying.
Doubt it's ours
Oh yes craft stalls ought to = cake and plenty of it! All village events = cake here and plenty of it Not the bacon butties although they do get eaten by those who like such things
I loved the snow sparkles they are so pretty!
I wonder whether Barbara's Niamh is growing up and doesn't want 'baby' butties now bless her.
Right off to work out how to transfer these photos into google drive so I can post them for you all to see....
could be a while!
Love to Joan Sue and doggies I hope all is well
Kath, Barbara and Carol of course too t4591
