    Hello Cath, Airwave and Toni

Yippee, we now have soil in our new raised bed! OH, bless him, shovelled a TONNE  of topsoil from the bottom of our very steep drive, all the way to the bottom of the garden, while I just wafted around with the rake, flattening it out. I bet he will hurt tomorrow in muscles he didn't know he had. I am sooo thrilled with it and am now planning what to plant. Bed is covered with plastic temporarily to try to keep the cats from digging etc, but any tips for longer term/prettier covering would be greatly appreciated.

Cath, you have obviously had a really good time in your garden today - and better weather than we have had! Was so wet here this morning but sun appeared late afternoon. Glad you found the horticultural channel

Airwave - good to have a "blokey" perspective on things!

Toni - wot r u like? First running over a boulder with the mower then trying to dismantle it with pliers  Good on you for trying to do it though.

Looking forward to watching Gardeners' World tonight.

    The Next Installment!

Rule, No.1. Don't do anything until you feel like doing it.....and then not until you've checked the calendar/the horiscope/tide times/todays recipe/opened the first beer.

warming the ground???? I'm going to attack the grass today, got some fertiliser and weed control mix, 2010 was the year of the plantain weed, they're everywhere, death to the plantain!!:mrgreen:

I suppose that'll mean I have to mow 200+ feet of grass every 5 days......... Oh wo is me.

Just spotted Mr. Deer down there eating all the green bits behind my shed, sorry 'workshop', thats awlfully nice of him, how did he know I never bother doing the grass round there, well only once or twice to show some defiance!

I would like to say that, today is the most lovely day of the year, so far, it's warmish, sun is fighting through the mist, the birdies is singing, the air is still and it FEELS good.

Just sprinkled the anti weed/pro grass stuff around the nearest levels, I'll leave the rest to the occasional onslaught from the mower.

Big job today is too carry out a strategic attack on the pampas grass, OH carried out a low-level sortie at w/e and removed 1 sq.ft(!), I used a flame thrower and still it grows, resistance is useless!!!!!!!!!!

    Right, more T, then garden.....

    Morning happy gardeners!

How's the pampas grass battle going Airwave?

I have now started planting up new raised bed  first early new pots, spring onions, radishes and chives (so far!). BUT ants are starting to investigate it as a new home already  we do have lots of ants in the garden so I am not really surprised. Anyone have any tips on how to stop them moving in?

My plant house has arrived and i had hubby at home with tonsillitis so he was there for the delivery.
He helped put it together in the garden.
He has also he has an idea to put a hot bed he will make to put on the patio.
He has got the wood and heating element and thermostat to make it.
My seeds are coming up and my window sill is filling up.
I managed to tidy my small front garden up and put in iris and freesia bulbs.
I was in pain after but the results were well worth it.

Forget the ants, its the pigeons that are the real pest, eating all the flowers...and the sparrows eating all my forsythia arch, shotguns, thats what's needed. Resistance is useless!

    well done tink

dug up the base for the rotary line as where the builders put it you cant use it, its to close to the shed :???: , re dug a hole and burried it again a bit further over, then reseeded the lawn and fingers crossed it takes this time, me and my son are going to build a gate tomorrow so we can keep the dog off the grass for a few days to give it a chance to take.

rose bushes are starting to sprout new growth and a couple of bulbs are starting to poke through, noticed today in the garden centere, sweet pea plants for sale. so will pick some up soon and give them ago. i want some colour and nice smelly plants this year now i have a garden.

Gosh all this frantic activity, I haven't even replaced the glass in the greenhouse yet, you're showing me up! OH walked in with some new rhubarb plants and lots of greenery in plastic tubs from the market, no doubt she'll get over her enthusiasm and it'll all drop dead when she gets busier.

I did go and sit in the pub garden and admire it this lunchtime (I took the old and grey out for lunch) rude not to have a pint while I was there, just to cool me down you understand!

Off to garden centre tomorrow, need a new fuchsia or three, we've lost them all to frost.

I call them worse at times :-)) My parents are a model of their times, now in their 80's and slowing down, my mum can drink us all under the table and my dad never quite manages to buy a round but always asks where his whiskey is!

Nevermind, they enjoyed a ride and a sit in the sun.

My Blue berries have arrived and we put em in the allotment all six of the look lovely. we got two earlies two mid and two late.
The allotment is my hubbies pride and joy. I don't go up really but it looks like it could do with some work.
I have decided to pop up, even if its half an hour. He don't get a lot of time everyone is retired really on there so up there all the time. We took our son up there he enjoyed planting and watering seeds and our blue berries. I'm gonna take him up more often it tired him out he loved it though.
