Pleased to hear you're doing well Rob, keep up the good work

Don't know whether it would be of any relief to you with your hot spot, itches et al but antihistamines help me. If you decide to give 'em a go do check with your Doc that it's ok for you though won't you

    Hi all,

Managed to get for my first shower today, feel sooooooo much better for it.
Still getting a little pain in the evenings, but I find thats normal with any injury.
Hoping to start cutting back on the pain meds now and see how that goes.

    Take care all

So, basically, it's all going OK! Compare the bobbyger of today with the one of this time last week - what a difference! Let's hope your recuperation continues in a similar vein - you will be up and about in no time at this rate! I am heartened Rob, this is very good progress indeed. DD

still going well. A little bit of pain when moving but not too much.
Parents almost had to prise my fingernails from the ceiling earlier though. I was lying on the sofa dozing and my leg twitched (you know how that sometimes happens when you are dropping off and relaxed), well that bloody well hurt but it was only short lived.
All in all, I'm extremely happy with the way things are going at the moment. 1 more week of the back slab then the stitches come out and a full cast goes on.

Hope everyone else is as well as can be expected.

Hi Rob you're doing great. Well pleased for you but totally envious that you'll be having the stitches out well before I do

Just you make sure that you don't go overboard with your Mum's wonderful care and cooking 'cos you won't be best pleased if you've got to lose a few pounds when you're up and running again

    Cherry,

Don't need to worry about those few extra pounds, I am keeping an eye on what I am eating at the moment. With the couple of months ahead of me recouperating, I need to ensure the calorie count is a bit lower than normal to ensure ther isn't much weight gain.

I really do appreciate all the words of support from everyone here, but I would like everyone on here to know how great my mum is in all this. She has not had it good in her life, she was diagnosed with polio when she was young and has had countless operations on her feet. Over the past 15 years, it has been getting harder and harder for her to get around, she needs a stick for walking but really she should be in a wheelchair (something she refuses point blank), we have however convinced her to get a walker for around town now. The foot she had the operations on are very disformed and she requires her shoes to be built up before she can wear them.

Her doctor has told her there is nothing they can do for her feet but I think I have convinced her to ask for a referral to an orthopedic specialist.

Anyway, I just thought I would post this so you know what great a help my mum has been, even though its not the easiest for her.

I have managed to stop her turning the light on in the bathroom for me now

It's not unusual for the female of the species to be able to get on with things better than the male - hats off to your Ma tho for her fortitude and determination. I hope you are not causing her too much extra work and/or pain and discomfort.

I bet you would fight against having a wheelchair. It's easy from the outside to tell someone what they should be doing, not so easy when it comes down to YOU being the one to to have it.

I hope the recovery continues to go well Rob - don't get complacent tho, these are still early days. DD

    Hi DD,

sorry about not replying yesterday, It was a bit of a bad day, I had quite a bit of localised pain in the bone and a rather broken sleep last night. Not worried too much as they have done quite extensive work on the bone so a bit of pain is to be expected.

Hope all is well with everyone else today.

    Best wishes.

    Hi all,

Had my 2 week appt today, stitches out and in a full cast. Been told I can partial weight bear now although by that they mean resting my foot on the floor when brushing my teeth and such like.
Been signed off for 10 weeks but I'll be looking to return to work on a phased basis after about 5 weeks (hopefully).

Still having restless nights but that should pass with time.

Having to cope with stairs now, the time at my parents was a blessing and made the first 2 weeks so much easier.

4 weeks until my next appt so the long recovery starts from here on in.

    Will keep you all informed.

Hi Rob, sorry for my absence, I have been celebrating birthdays. I gather you have left your parents then and are at home again? How are you managing the stairs? I find going up them with the crutches a nuisance but for coming down I a) hurl them down (so satisfying!) then b) descend backwards, following the 'bad leg to hell' routine. I hope you are sleeping better. DD

    Hi all,

Yes I am back at home now and the stairs are killing me, I find going up on the crutches and coming back down on my bum is the easiest.

Also got to look at the x-rays at my appt and see my new pieces of metalwork (god those screws are big).

My daughter is very helpful, fetching me things and carrying my crutches downstairs. She must be after something

Still getting some pain during the day when my foot is down but that soon clears when I raise it. The twitches at night still hurt like bugger though.

Hope everyone else is doing as good as possible.

Things are going well, that is good. Aren't you allowed to hop up the stairs holding on to a bannister. Using crutches can be dangerous as I was taught to always tuck them under my arm and as for throwing them down the stairs DD !!!!!!

Why not? They're mine to do as I wish - I bought 'em! Admittedly I only have to resort to them for the stairs when in extremis - and it is a fast way to send them to the ground floor! All sorts of stuff gets hurled down my stairs. DD
