So near and yet so far

For anyone interested this is what happened:
8.00 a.m. now and a rush to get my checks done for surgery at 8:30.
Told to get gowned.
Urine sample tested and clear.
Bloods taken.
Anaesthetist sounded my chest and said my airways were clear so surgery would go ahead even though I was coughing and streaming with my cold
Surgeon came and drew a big black arrow on my leg.
Porter came with trolley to get me.
8:20 a.m.
Final obs taken and nursey says ‘you have a temperature and your heart rate is far too fast’ (might have been ‘cos I was a tad scared  ).
She took my temperature three times and went to report her findings.
When she came back with a cup of tea I knew I'd be going home.
What a bummer hey. The positives I can draw from this is that I’ve had a dress rehearsal, have met the team and they all seem lovely. My house is sparkling and clean and I really appreciate my own comfy bed!!!
Now does anyone know how get rid of an indelible black ink arrow off the skin 'cos it sure ain't washing off?!

Got up at 5:00 a.m. for admittance at 7:00. (I did feel really ill but put it down to nerves)
Found I was second on the list.
Lady before me had to be delayed because her diabetic blood sugars were too high.
Promoted to first on the list.

Just as it all seemed to be going so well too.
I hope you recover from your ailments quickly and I hope you don't have to wait too long for surgery to happen.

chances are you may get a call back very soon, i was on the list for cancellations, by that they called me 4pm wednesday afternoon nearly 4 years ago, saying did i want the knee replacement the NEXT day!! jumped for joy of course i did, i wanted to get rid of the pain that disturbed my nights for so long, i wanted to stop the tears i had cried for so long with pain.... went in at 7am with no food drinks etc and was in theatre by 9.45am i think.....
big mistake... had more pain ever since in the same leg even with new joint, causes me grief everytime we go to forida every year.... dont mean to sound negative if others have this surgery, ive known several friends who have had it that are so happy they have xxlove and hugs0 -
I am so sorry Linda. Hopefully you'll get over this quick and a new op date will be offered. Re. the pen mark, I could'nt get rid of mine straight away, just kept rubbing and rubbing. Maybe you will get an new op date very soon that the pen will still be there.

Oh legs, as you say so near and yet so far but I suppose they had your best interests at heart. What a blow - I hope they can get you back in sooner rather than later. I also hope the infection is clearing up now and, despite this setback, you are as OK as you can be within yourself. I have been thinking about you and wondering how you were so it is lovely to hear from you, thank you for letting us know what happened. DDHave you got the despatches? No, I always walk like this. Hi Linda..
I'm so sorry that your op didn't go ahead after all that anxiety build up..
Like you say your back in your spick and span home and lovely bed,,
In regards to you black arrow, nail varnish remover..
Wish you well..xxxxTracyxx0 -
Dear Linda
Use baby oil to get rid of the arrow. I am so sorry about Wednesday. I would have been devastated and so know a little of how you must be feeling. Let's hope that you get called back quickly, a cancellation or something like that. Keep your bag packed if possible so you do not have to do that again.
I do hope that you feel a little better in every way, two days later.
Love

Wow Linda, what a let down - I was really not looking forward to my op, but I think I would have screamed if that had happened to me!
While you're waiting for your new date, if you want any more info about the epidural, let me know.
Hope you get good news really soon,

So near yet so far. Of course you wouldn't have wanted them to take any risks but you must have felt you were under the radar there, Legs.

Hi Linds,
Sorry to hear the op didn't go ahead. I hope you are now recovering from both your cold & disappointment and hopefully you won't have long before they call you in again.

Hi legs
Sorry again you had your op cancelled.
As to your black arrow, have you tried vodka or gin or any spirit? Most indelible markers are soluble in alcohol (use to use alcohol to remove from laboratory glassware as routine).
Have still got my black arrow from last weeks op,but is tucked down inside the top of my plaster and can't get to it...................... :x

Oh Linda, sorry to hear about that.
But like you said you have had a dress rehearal.
Hope its not too long before you recover completely
from the infection and you head off to go thru
the preliminaries again.

Hi Barbara,
I'm slowly recovering, still bringing up interesting sputum when I cough (sorry hope you weren't eating  ) but my temperature is normal now. The ward doc says it'll take me 2-3 weeks to get over it, then I can ring for a new date.Love, Legs x

Hi Liesa,
Love the signature! I'm having my right knee replacement replaced (a revision) because I've worn it out  Don't worry about being negative I feel all our experiences are very different and we all know there's no miraculous cure. I had both my knees replaced at the same time eleven years ago and they have served me very well.Love, Legs x

Hi Tracy,
The only problem with nail varnish remover is that I don't have any (my hands are too ugly to paint my nails  ) ....we're going round to some friends for dinner tonight so I'm going to ask if they have any.Love, Legs x

Hi Elna,
To be honest I felt so poorly on Wednesday I didn't care that they'd cancelled, I just wanted to go home and curl up in a corner. Now I keep thinking it would have been over now and I would be on the road to recovery with it behind me .....still it wasn't to be.
I've left my bags packed upstairs in the spare room ..............just got to try to keep the house clean :roll:Love, Legs x

Hi Jo,
Thanks for the offer of more information about the spinal. Funnily enough because I'm rheumatoid the anaesthetist sent me for neck x-rays too in case they have trouble inserting the needles in my spine. I could be having a GA afterall.Love, Legs x

Hi Sticky,
Do you think we should have a Revision Committee and a Nearly Revision Committee then we could amalgamate the two and sit together in the pub?Love, Legs x
