    Hi everyone

I havent had a very good day but am feeling a bit better now. I just feel so sore and tired, everything is such an effort. I was trying to do my exercises this morning and just ended up in tears, all my muscles are so painful as they havent moved for years. My surgeon made incisions in my groin during my operation and cut the muscles and tendons so that my legs could stretch further apart. When I am sitting or lying down I need to keep a pillow between my legs and my back is constantly sore. Sorry for the moan but I am just feeling a bit miserable. Hopefully I will feel a bit better tomorrow
    Big Hugs

    Hi Jean,

Having just come through my knee op I know just how you feel. I had days like this too and they're still very fresh in my mind.

It's a huge operation you've had and it's still very early days so you have to give it time. You're bound to get low as your whole body is trying to recover and has had a massive shock.

Be kind to yourself, only do the bear minimum of exercises if you're hurting, as you get stronger and the pain less you'll be able to increase them.

I promise it will get better, each day the pain will diminish as your body heals, even if you don't notice it at first.

Be kind to yourself and never apologise for feeling low, there's no need, we understand.

    Luv
    Love, Legs x

    Dear Jean

I think you are doing very well, it is such very early days, you were in and out of hossy in a flash and had both hips done not only one. After an operation our emotions are all over the place - you will get there - it takes so much time, post op to get better and we have to be patient, something I am not too good at doing and have to give myself a stern talking to sometimes when recuperating after an op. Doing the exercises is painful but do your best - that is all you can do. It will all come right in the end. You are a brave girl, you have a double whammy of it to cope with, only having one hip/knee done is bad enough!

If you keep a diary it may help you and when you look back at what you wrote say in two weeks time, you will see how well you have gone on. I found it helped me after to 2 knee replacements.

    Sending you over healing hugs
    Elna x

    Oh Jean

    Your poor poor thing

I am so not suprised...as you said your muscles haven't been used for AGES!!!

In your plcae l would only be doing a teeny bit of ecercise, but doing my range of movement ones alongside as best l could. They are important. but maybe it is a little too much too soon.

I am hoping that you do have some good medication to fall back on at the mo?

The nights are always the worst with this sort of thing post operatively and when you are being forced to sleep on your back, which will hurt because of that.

When l had my back opp l thought things would NEVER get better and that l was the biggest whimp ever, but l DID get over it in the end.

Two hips is a MASSIVE thing you know

    love

You'll get there, weajean, but not, unfortunately, without the bad days. Rest & gentle exercise. And remember we're all here for you.

    Hi Everyone

Thanks so much for all your kind and encouraging comments, its so good to know that you are all thinking of me and understand what I am going through. I had a sleepless night last night and was in a terrible mood this morning. I had a really good cry on my husbands shoulder then had a nice shower and got my dressings cleaned etc and that made me feel a bit better. I phoned the hospital to see about taking anti-inflammatories but they advised against this as there is an added risk of blood clot and I am injecting Fragmin every evening. I went into hospital taking 2 Co-dydramol four times a day (I have been taking this for years for arthur pain) but when I was discharged they reduced this to 1 four times a day which I feel is making no impact on my pain. I dont think they understand that although I have new hips I still have terrible OA in all my other joints and also the muscular pain is really bad. I phoned my GP this morning and he is giving me a ring back tomorrow and I am sure he will sympathise with my situation and change my pain meds to something stronger. I was supposed to be going for physio tomorrow but was dreading getting in the car and walking from the car park to the hospital etc so my husband gave them a ring and arranged that they come to the house instead which will be much easier for me. I am scared that I am not trying hard enough but I am just so tired and will just have to go at my own pace for a while. I am sure I will start to feel much better soon and will be back to my old self in no time. Thanks again for your support xx
    Big Hugs

Jean, your trying very hard, when pain's like this then it's hard getting up in the morning and going through the day and also hard stopping in bed. You're tackling each day the best you know how and that's the main thing. I hope you get some stronger pain meds, I'm sure they'll help.

    Thinking of you.

    Hi Jean,

I am really late seeing this but so glad your home and sorry your having a bit of a rough time. Its a major thing you have had there and it does take a bit of time to all calm down. One does but you have had the both done and are doing so well.

I hope you can get a bit more help from the gp and got everything crossed you have a good night. ((( ))) and a hope Cris x

Hi Jean, so sorry you're not too good.

One hip op is considered a major op let alone both together, be kind to yourself and try not to do too much, little and often is better with the exercises.
You will be emotional, it takes weeks for the anaethesic to get out your system. I don't know if i would have the courage to have both done at once- you have my deepest respect.

hope you get some better pain relief off your GP.
take care, my thoughts are with you.

    Hello Jean

You've come through major surgery..and it's bound to have knocked you sideways.
As others have said having both hips done is a huge undertaking.. and coping with the pain and stiffness of other OA joints as well as the impact of the double THR must put stress on you physically and emotionally.

I hope your doc will re-consider your pain meds.... how you've managed without heavy duty meds is nothing short of heroic :!:

Here's hoping that with better pain management and support you'll begin to see a difference.

Take it one day at a time Jean.... we are 100% behind you.

lots of love and strength and gentle ((((hugs))))

Hello weejean, I hope things are easing a little today for you. As others have said any surgery can leave your emotions all over the place and having both hips done at once is a very large amount of surgery. No wonder you are feeling as you are, although the new joints will no doubt help and will completely change the quality of life there is a way to go before the benefits begin to be felt and yes, your emotions will skitter here and there. To be battling with the OA pain in the 'untouched' joints must be heaping misery on top of being uncomfortable on top of being sore on top of being everything else. You are coping with a huge amount at the moment (as if you didn't know, sorry, ) but as the time passes things will begin to ease, the immediate impact of the surgery will start to fade, your muscles will gradually become stronger (don't over-work them at the moment, stop your exercises when you feel you could do a little more) and things will improve. I for one think you are doing remarkably well, just take your time and remember we are cheering you on for every stage of your recovery. DD

    Hi Jean
Gosh no wonder you where in a bad mood with all that pain, once you get that something like then you may feel more human, they should have known better than send you home on those meds.
I like what Elna said about keeping a diary, then you can look back ans see how far you have come on.
I do wish you well, and I hope they do your phyisio at home for at least a few weeks,
    You take care.
    Love

    Hey Everyone

I have had a better day today. The physio came out and was very encouraging, she has told me that I am doing well and I feel much more confident. I also had a call from my GP and he has put my meds back to the Co-dydramol 30/500 which will help and has given me Tramadol for during the night if the pain is keeping me awake. The mornings are definately the worst for me but things are getting easier during the day. I am still very tired and have been having little naps during the day which is also helping. I keep reading through all your posts as I get great strength and comfort from them and it helps me so much. Thanks as always to you all xx

    Hello Jean

I'm so glad you are feeling a bit better today! :!: It's reassuring to be told by physio that you are making good progress, as sometimes we can't see/ gauge the progress for ourselves.

Thank goodness your GP has re-instated your pain meds...so hopefully you'll have less pain to cope with now.

Rest when you need to Jean.... a wee nap is a good thing!

    You're doing great!

    lots of love

    Hi Jean,

Isn't it good to be told you're doing OK?
I think we all expect too much from ourselves sometimes.

I'm glad you are feeling more settled with the situation, keep up the good work.

    Take care of yourself

Hi Jean, I do hope you have a better day and your meds do the trick tonight and you feel more rested . Your body has had such a battering its no wonder you are tired, but that is natures way of healing, pouring your energies into repairing the surgical traumas, and not into housework  I find ice packs very useful to reduce pain( 20 mns at a time)Your body has a whole lot of positional and emotional readjusting to do, so be gentle on yourself

Glad to hear you're feeling a lot brighter. Remember just to take baby steps first and gradually you'll soon be striding out.
