Gulp, again. Oh my, the letter has arrived, it is written down in black and white - 27 September, admission at 7.30 am. The procedure is a C5 vertebrectomy, C4 - 6 fusion anterially, with a bone graft thrown in. Pre-op on Thursday.

So there we are, I go under the knife yet again this year.

Elna, my love, when you get over the initial shock, you will see lots of reasons why it`s a good thing that this op is taking place so soon. Not least, that you will, I am sure, be feeling so much better for Christmas with your lovely Lola.

I will be in Cadiz/Seville/Granada, with my family, whilst you are in hospital - special birthday treat from my lovely lads!- but I will do my utmost to get online, to support you, and send you all my love.

For now, know that I think about you often, and will continue to do so. I salute your bravery........Much love.......Ange.x.

Thank you Val, DD and Ange, I think I am getting a headache - as you say Val, deep breaths and stay calm.

Ange, I do indeed see why this op must be now, as I have noticed deterioration coming on quickly and what is frightening is that I am told this op will stop further deterioration but may well not improve my symptoms that I have as a result of the vertebrae opressing on my spinal cord. What lovely boys you have to arrange such a birthday treat for you, but then I am not that surprised, as they look after you well, don't they? You enjoy your holiday, you must be getting excited. Be good!

Oh Elna these appointments come so quickly and make you very nervous. They seem to like early morning to but at least you get it over quickly. I'm sure you will manage to get your head round it and stand up to the op. I really hope it all goes well for you and you will soon feel much better and in time get back to your walks and bike rides. Gentle (((((()))))) and lot's of love I'm thinking of you.

    Hi Elna

    gosh

You must be terrified! But also anxious to get it done and dusted.

Having had my back done l can say that MOST of the damage DID repair. The recovery in nerves took anything up to two years and yes l do still have a tiny bit of numbness here and there, but nothing like before the op.

Maybe you feel as l did....at least once it's done it won't 'go' again.

I will be with you in spirit on 27th l promise.

    Love and HUGs

    Hi Elna,
Well that did come through quickly, good in one way but mind scurrying in another. Write your list in your calmer moments and I hope that on Thursday they can give you some reassurance.
All I can say is take one day or one hour at a time and I am absolutely sure things will turn out for the best for you.

Enjoy an hour off with the Archers in the morning.
    Gentle hugs,

    Hi Elna

Jeepers that is quick but I think in some ways the waiting time is equally hard so I hope you are getting used to the idea. Just wanted to call in and send some more calming vibes and let you know I will be thinking of you and hoping all goes well so you are soon back home again.
    take care

    Good.

I'm so glad you're not having to wait long Elna and once you've got your brain round it so will you be.

Less time to worry and think and so much organising to do it will be here and over with before you know it.

You need to get it behind you now and I know it's scary but you are strong and positive and this will help you through and your recovery afterwards.

Sending you love and courage and I'm behind you all the way along with all your lovely forum friends.

    Hi Elna,

Oh flowr that good it cam quickly and well for what its worth I got nerve route damage from before the decompression and some of it has healed and got a bit better but for the bits that hasn't pregabs really help.....

I don't know how you feel but know how if felt before mine and flower all I can say is it will make things so much better for you and remove all danger..... You know its not a good thing to have and they have got their finger out quickly so with luck the nerve route thing will not be permanent.

Elna I promise you if it is its not as bad as it was... or mine isn't and I have learned to live with it fairly well to.

You are stronger then me flower and you will get through this and in case you falter look to the shadows cus thats where i shall be.

Could you either find a pigeon or get Mr Elna to let us know your ok though?

I hope you do get some reassurance Thursday and leaving you an additional ((((( ))))) as the hug bucket maybe in between its hours. Will honestly be thinking of you flower. Love Cris xxx

    Now as a pa

Elna Wonky is sending you love and special wonky hugs for you as well as a tanker of fortitude, strength and stamina. xxx

Hi elna, I hope the shock has subsided a little and that you are feeling easier in yourself. I have the feeling that you are not one to turn her face from trouble, that you would rather get things sorted and this op will ensure just that. I am still thinking of you. DD

Dear Barbara, Tilly and Berty”girl”,thank you for your good wishes and Berty”girl” – I wish you all the very best on Friday. This time you will be fine, all will be well. You have been so patient. Bless you.

Dear Lynn, you made me laugh! I needed that. Thank you for the healing vibes too – very much appreciated.

Dear Elizabeth, yes a shock, but I think the surgeon could see how I was on a downward spiral if not operated on soon. He had said this should be performed sooner than later. Thank you for the hugs and from Tracy too.

Dear Kath, thank you for your message, kind thoughts and hugs, much appreciated and to Tony for the good luck which I think I may need.

Dear Julie, thank you for your kind message, yes I am a little scared of this operation because it is my spine that is being tinkered with but needs must so there is no going back. I would chase up your letter if I were you. I shall be the guinea pig then and let you know how it goes for me. I am not sure how similar our ops are though.

Thank you dear Vonski, you are so kind. Yes, I am pleased that it is a morning operation and I hope the surgeon is feeling well and rested before he starts on me!

Dear Toni, Anky and Anita, thank you for your good wishes and for thinking of me.

Dear Ironic, I did enjoy The Archers this morning and thought of you, that you may be listening too. Some parts were sad and I shed a tear, did you? Poor Clary.

Thank you dear Cris, Wonky, Hileena, Magenta and Linda, Lynn, DD and Barbara (again  ) for all your good wishes, hugs, courage and love.

I hope I have not missed anyone out. I am overwhelmed by the support I am receiving from you. It does mean such a lot and does help.

Ian will let you know how I am getting on whilst in hospital. I hope he behaves when on the forum. I shall leave him my username and password. His sense of humour can be quite bizarre at times!

Today I have pottered in the garden, made some bread and been to see my granddaughter for a good hour and guess what? We played going to the vet and hospitals. Of course she was the patient!

Thank you for being there for me because I know that you have your own difficulties to contend with – that is why it makes all your support so extra special to me.

    Love to you all,
    Elna x
