Ooooh! Are we going to meet Mr Elna? (Note to self, no more forum browsing wearing your nightie and with unbrushed hair, spruce yourself up girl.) I am glad you had a good day yesterday, vets and hospitals notwithstanding, I reckon this week will be one of the slowest (yet oddly enough also the fastest) passing ones you have ever known. We're here. 'Nuff said. DDHave you got the despatches? No, I always walk like this. Eddie Braben0

Everyone's already said it all, Elna. You seem to be a very practical person (Though even practical people are allowed pre-op butterflies) so I'm sure you'll be feeling that it has to be done so just bring it on.
My last pre-op assessment nurse was really lovely at answering all my questions (and asking a few herself as she was on Methotrexate too).
I know it's much easier to be confident for someone else than for oneself but you know you have a good surgeon and that's a hugely important point. I'll be thinking of you.If at first you don't succeed, then skydiving definitely isn't for you.

Good luck Elna, I'll be there on the day.

Thank you Sue

I will not be on the forum now until tomorrow evening at the earliest. I am attending my uncle's funeral tomorrow but as we have to travel a long way we are starting out early afternoon today and staying overnight in a hotel.

Hi Elna,
Oh I am so sorry that you have lost your uncle, my deepest sympathies to you and yours.
I hope the journey was not too tiring for you and the hotel is comfortable for you.
Yes, I have to have my weekly 'fix' of the Archers and it is a very sad story line with Clary.

Dear Julie, Hileena, Ironic, Cris, Iris, Lynn and Barbara,
Thank you. We arrived home about a couple of hours ago. I wanted to be there so was relieved that no hospital appointments came up on those two days. He was my only English uncle as my other relatives are in Finland/Denmark. I was very fond of him and also my aunt who died seven years ago. He celebrated his 90th birthday in April but was then in and out of hospital. He always returned to his home and was able to stay there because his neighbours kept an eye on him especially one wonderful couple who went in three times a day to check on him and took him to all his appointments and did his shopping etc. His final days were spent in hospital but he was kept comfortable until the end.

Morning again from me, Elna. Still thinking of you and hoping you can try to relax a bit now before the op – not easy, I know.If at first you don't succeed, then skydiving definitely isn't for you.

Hello elna, I am typing this using knitting needles as I am sat at some distance from my keyboard clothed in full hazmat suiting - I have a ghastly cold. I am still thinking of you, I was so sorry to read about your uncle and no wonder you wished to do that journey. Take care. DDHave you got the despatches? No, I always walk like this. Eddie Braben0

Dear Chris, SW, DD, Barbara and Toni
Oh the ironing! Well, it is uptodate at the moment, but whatever will Ian do whilst I am away, wear the same shirt to work for 3 days? Just send over the clothes to be ironed, Ian can practice on them, Chris! If you do not mind waiting, I think, I may well have a long, post op recuperation – hope not but there you go – so I shall have plenty of time to do some ironing. Yes, Barbara, the freezer is full to the brim, I will ask Ian to save some goodies. DD, I am sorry that you have a cold – horrid things, they are. Hope you will soon feel a little better.
Today has been a slow one for me – not much energy but just plodded on at my own pace after a late start and also a nap early afternoon. I did venture out which made me feel even more exhausted, to get some meds from the chemist and to buy a loaf to go with the homemade soup tonight. The sun was shining so that was pleasant. An early night for me, methinks.
Thank you for keeping in touch, it does help.
Love

I'll tell you what he'll do, Elna - he'll learn. Quickly. Men can when pushed. There might be a few accidents and it might be a bit expensive but it'll be worth it.
By the time of my last op my husband didn't have my Mum or our sons to fall back on. Result? He learned to cook. Actually quite well. Even if, when I got back, he did put enough on my plate to feed a small army.
(For emergencies, W--tr-se do ready meals with none of what my Mum used to call 'muck & rubbish' in.)If at first you don't succeed, then skydiving definitely isn't for you.

Hi Elna,
I'm afraid I dont post very much, but do read the forums and follow everyone's stories.
You all seem like a lovely supportive bunch.
Just wanted to say that I have had two cervical spine fusions - C1/2 with bone graft in 1997 and C3/4 anterior with discectomy(sp?) and posterior fixation with plates in 2005 (this was an emergency and I was admitted within a week after some faffing about at another hospital!) There may be another at C6/7 level later on.
All went very well and successfully. Had to wear a neck collar for some months after the first, but hardly at all after the second op as so much metalwork. Recovery was not too bad at all, be careful about lifting things afterwards. You do feel a bit fragile (second op was like a double one so very long). Accept all pain relief drugs offered and its not too bad. I was out of hospital within a few days amazingly, they like to get you mobile asap. All neurosurgeons have their own ways of doing these ops.
I know it's scary, and different from any other surgery we may have (and I lost count after 20!) but you will be in safe hands and much safer afterwards. My thoughts are with you and do ask if you have any other worries.
Sorry to hear of the loss of your uncle, always sad at whatever age.
Another Archers fan here!
All the very best,
Lizx0
