Anyone for an AC Halloween Coven?

Soon Halloween will be upon us and sweet, bouncy little children with angelic faces will be dressing up as witches, dragging us to the door when we’ve reached our tiredest and achiest part of the day and begging us for money and anything with which to rot their perfect teeth.

This has set me thinking. I feel we are missing a trick (or treat?) here. Personally, I have the required age, body parts and evil disposition to pass as a witch without needing fancy dress or make-up.

I am wondering about the possibility of starting an AC coven. Provide your own broomstick and cauldron. Familiars, in the form of cats, toads etc optional. A preference will be shown to anyone skilled in rune inscribing, poppet manufacture and spell casting, especially Harry Potter fans with GCSE Latin.

Please apply with suggestions. I’ll set you off with a (mis)quote from Macbeth:

‘Double double toil and trouble
Spammers in the cauldron bubble.’
If at first you don't succeed, then skydiving definitely isn't for you.

Oooh, this sounds like fun! I have the running sores (well, insect bites that aren't healing) plus a hairy chin, are they sufficient qualifications to join your coven? I rather fancy having a bat as my familiar (as I am an old one ) and I can easily convert the Clatterator into a rather luxurious broomstick. As for a magic command I humbly submit: Artheriterous phackoffious! DD

Oh yes please, SW, I've always wanted to be in a coven

This is my Latin motto: non est ad astra mollis e terris via
(There is no easy way from the earth to the stars)

    .....and here's my witch's poem

    Come, sisters, come,
let us screech at the windows,
let us blow out the candles
    and breathe on their hair,

    we've shadowed the moon
    and called up the night-wind,
the owl and the cat and the broom
    will be there.

Let us turn their blood chill
with the sight of our faces,
let us touch them with fingers
    both crooked and cold,

    and then shrilly laughing
we'll be off to the hill tops
    to frisk and to frolic
    as always of old.

Got my own hat, broomstick and cauldron too

    Oooh, and a cat........must have a cat :!: th_black_cat_witch_text2.gif

    Will that do :?:

    I'm enjoying this already.

DD - Running sores. Do they run fast? If so, a bit of an anachronism in this particular coven but, nevertheless, an excellent qualification, as is the beard (sorry, hairy chin) provided you are female. (You are female, aren’t you?) I myself have a suitably disturbing moustache. Bats are good but they are an endangered species so please keep yours well away from the cauldron. Of course you may convert the clatterator into a broomstick. Will that be be hard graft or a quick spell? I love it when you talk magic even though Artheriterous Phackoffious sounds a bit like a Russian composer

Mig – I like your style – straight in there with a spot of incantaion. That’s the spirit! Now, about this mole – you don’t have to say where but I'd like to emphasise to everyone that we should aim to be an equal opportunities coven and we can’t have a ‘molier than thou’ attitude. Do keep well away from the Witchfinder General, mig, if you want to avoid a dunking – river, not chocolate digestives.

Joan – Wow! Please everyone, can we vote for Joan’s motto ‘cos I love it? Plus we now have our own, highly skilled, resident poet. It took Barnsley FC years to achieve that. You are one exceptionally well-equipped witch, Joan. Have you done this sort of thing before? And, where did you get that photo of me?

No, SW, I'm just a Wannabe Witch  Never done any witching before, but it's definitely in there somewhere

Glad you like the motto. :D Harry Potter sent the photo to me  Is it a good likeness :?:

I do agree about the equal opportunities coven, although I'm extremely gifted in the mole department.

Very high places, naturally......wherever my broomstick chooses to take me.

Butterbeer and canary creams in abundance :!: :D

I have the red hair which would have classed me as a witch in the middle ages and I have a cat that has the most evil yowl (he can't meow)... Could I join? I didn't make it to GCSE but I did do Latin at school for three years.

LV - You're definitely in. Red hair, a yowling cat and a passing acquaintence with Latin. Who could refuse?

7worlds - you can be an evil anything you like. We seem to have a shortage (no pun intended  ) of goblins so an excellent choice.

Now, then folks, what's in the cauldron tonight?

Here's a bit of information that might come in useful for all witches:

    Witches Hand Shake

Extend your right index finger and lightly touch the wrist of the person exactly where the pulse is felt . by touching the pulse it throws the acquaintance completely off his/her balance for just an instant , but in that instant plant an initial thought, ( example : I am the one you want for the job ) This really works-try it!

    Good Health Spell

fold these in a velvet cloth...

    leaves of tea
    flowers of lavender
    ginger
    salt
    clove and camphor

Tie it up with a scarlet thread.
Keep it beside your bed at night.
Breathe it when you wake up every day.
Soon you shall be healed and stay that way.

    Ingredients for the cauldron

    Mermaid hair
    Ear of troll
    Butterfly kisses
    Dragon's breath
    Eye of newt
    Wool of bat

All quite easily obtainable if you know where to look :D

I can see you're really getting into this, Joan :D Can I ask if you've actually tried the Good Health Spell as I quite fancy having a crack at it myself. What does this 'good health' feel like? Can anyone remember? Plus, I see enormous £££ signs flashing before my eyes.

I shall have to give some thought to the cauldron ingredients and the purchase thereof. I don't remember seeing any of them in Morrisons though I think Mr SW might be able to provide the Dragon's Breath the morning after the night before

I AM getting into this, SW, as we haven't had such a fun thread on here for ages.
Well done for dreaming it up :D

I haven't tried the 'Good Health' spell, but I'm sure it's worth a try. If you believe in it strongly enough, it's bound to have a beneficial effect (placebo effect or mind over matter, I don't know ) I bet it works better than some of those nasty drugs anyway.
Hadn't thought of the profit to be made from witchcraft

I'm going to try out the handshake on my OH too, and plant a thought eg. I would love someone to cook a lovely meal for me while I just sit with my feet up.

As for the ingredients for the cauldron, I've been chasing a butterfly round the garden all morning, trying to persuade it to give me some kisses
We've got some newts in our garden pond, but they seem strangely reluctant to donate their eyes
Can you ask Mr.SW to breathe into a jar and then quickly seal it next time he goes out for a pint or two :?:

Is it aisle 13 3/4? Might it lead to Diagon Aisle? For a nice G&T I'm prepared to risk life and limb.
