Thank you both. I think maybe you're right. I can't think of any way round it at the moment. I've got other things to worry about and can't deal with it all at once. I do feel I need to take a step back and, as you say, look after myself, for a while. xChristine0

Do you think you should cancel your original cheque in case they didn't rip it up and then try to cash it claiming they didn't realise what the original cheque was for? You could always ask the hospital if they received the donation but I do know it is difficult as You want to give people the benefit of the doubt and not have to be checking up on them.

I don't know which hospital it was meant for. If the cheque was cashed, I'd notice it on my statement as I check it each week but I think cancelling it is a good idea Elizabeth just to make sure.Christine0
